This is an apartment with no hospitality. You will have to book your own reservations and get absolutely no help from the owner. Our stay was short-lived due to a severe thunderstorm. Power was out for hours, including the use of toilets and showers. The owner never came to check on the guests nor provide us and others with candles. We saw the owner in the courtyard and had to tell her how bad the situation was with no running water and no water heater, etc. She told us that she wasn't sure when an electrician was going to arrive. We had to check out of course, and the owner told us that she we would refund us for our last night there. I never received that refund. I finally had to file a credit card dispute, which the owner disputed, which I disputed again. I couldn't believe the lack of hospitality from this place. Worst place I have stayed in Tuscany!

When I first moved to Florence I was about 20. I had been to Italy before several times and to Florence a few times briefly as a young boy on history lessons so in essence I did not know what to expect. Upon discovering an elegant stylish fusion Enoteca I marked it as a place to go. When I managed to get a table with a date, it proved to be a great culinary and wine tasting experience, so much so that I quizzed the owners (Elisa Dabizzi & Gincarlo Guarnieri) about the story behind the different wines and dishes and they charmingly and patiently indulged my curiosity. This relationship culminated in a great friendship resulting in my being invited to their home (Borgo de' Ricci) where I was able to see the routes of their passion, good taste and obsession with 1st class hospitality. Though no longer living in Florence I have returned regularly ever since and intend to marry my better half in Brogo de Ricci, if she will have me!:-) I am confident that all will go well as I will have home advantage. I encourage anyone one effortlessly looking to be spoiled, stay there when in Tuscany.

Room Tip: All rooms are equally charming in different ways as the property is of great historical value.

Located in an area between highway and busy road with constant noise. Rooms are clean, but garden is hardly taken care of. Traditional Italian hospitality with Agriturismo spirit is replaced by a hotel managing bookings and "officina" for all the rest (watch open hours!). We booked one week in this place and had to leave after one night in order to "save" our holidays!

Room Tip: Avoid if you are looking for a nice, quite stay

Borgo de' Ricci is a winery with apartments for rent about 10 minutes drive from Florence. This is not a hotel with staff on hand to answer questions, but more a self-service apartment.

We stayed in La Torre, a room at the top floor of the facility (about 3 flights of stairs to climb). It is a 2 story apartment with bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs, and one large room downstairs with couches, kitchen and dining facilities. There are two bedrooms, each with a king size bed and access to its own outdoor patio. One bedroom had an attached bathroom with tub/shower, toilet, sink, and bidet. There was a second bathroom off the hallway with a shower stall, sink, toilet, and bidet. The kitchen included a stove and oven, small refrigerator, sink, pots & pans, dishes, silverware, etc. One set of bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths was provided for each person, as well as various linens for dining/kitchen. There wasn't any extra toilet paper, dish detergent, or other consumable type items in the apartment.

The Borgo is a gated facility, and you are given a key to open the gate so you can come and go as you please. The grounds have lots of pretty landscaping, and the views of the countryside from the patios are very nice. While it is very convenient to Florence and the Autostrada, it has a nice rural setting and is a quiet place to stay.

We had a little trouble finding Borgo de' Ricci. If you look it up on Mapquest it shows the wrong location. Make sure you look at the map on their web site. Even then, finding the roads to it can be a bit confusing.

The staff was very friendly and helpful when we checked in. They even left us a bottle of the olive oil which they make, and is outstanding. We asked for restaurant recommendations and other particulars at that time, and for the most part did not see the hostess again after that. A few days into our stay, we did have a nice tour of the winery (some of their wines were quite good).

We thought Borgo de' Ricci was a great value. We paid 460 Euros for a week + 15 Euros for each person for the cleaning fee.

The only negatives were that when taking a shower, the on-demand hot water was not consistent, so the temperature fluctuated up and down. Also, the washing machine in the room was not functional. If you intend to use the telephone in the room, make sure you ask the hostess to activate it when you check in, otherwise it will not work.

Overall, we really liked the accomodations, and would definitely consider staying there again. The location was great, and the apartment was very large and comfortable.
