“Nice homely place to stay.”
Reviewed 18 September 2013 via mobile

I had two nights in Dungarvan researching family history and earlier reviews highly recommended Cairbre house. (former 19th century Dungarvan hospital) Travelling by public transport all over Ireland, I like to stay in a place that is at least a few minutes walk from where I had my evening meal.

Cairbre house has a very polite and knowledgeable assistant by the name of Katarina when I was staying there.

The rooms were a little small however they are well appointed, mine had lovely views towards the nearby hills. I spent some time reading in the very homely lounge room one wet day.

Katarina does a good breakfast and don't forget to check out the very pretty surrounding gardens, and lovely summer house.

Not expensive and highly recommended.

What a lovely place to stay. A great host who kindly offered us a lift to the Tannery as we were running late for our reservation. Very comfortable room with lovely views and a really great breakfast which set us up for the day. Thanks Brian.

This hotel is amazing. Found it when flicking through the Ireland guide we brought before we came. We are staying here as a pit stop between Rosslare and Kerry, we are on our honeymoon with our 9mth old daughter. From the moment I started emailing the owner I could tell he was lovely. Very accommodating with our requests to arrive early, have breakfast and could they allow us to have a shower etc as our ferry docked at 6:14am. Everything we have asked for he (Brian) has been more than happy to to help with. The room is clean, comfortable and tidy. Linens provided and the breakfast in the morning is amazing! Very good value for money!!

A mature couple touring Ireland with not a lot pre-planned we took the advice of an acquaintance who is a relative of Brian: we were fortunate that there was a room available. We were offered our choice of two rooms and were brought a welcoming afternoon tea. The rooms are lovely, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean.
The breakfast is 5 star, the house specialty in particular.
Brian and his assistant are a wealth of knowledge about local attractions and have a veritable library of pamphlets and other information to hand.
The garden is especially. Beautiful, obviously a great labour of love and the fruits of that labour are part of the menu.
The House is in easy walking distance of the quay which has several very good restaurants and the pubs have wonderful traditional music on most nights.
Dungarvan is well located to make a base for travelling in the south-east of Ireland c
Enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra night.

Room Tip: Family rooms are available. All rooms are quiet, but there is no lift, so travel light unless you c...

Have stayed in Brian's house 3 times now. Always a warm welcome. If you are looking for a comfortable B&B in a great location for touring Co. Waterford and beyond, this is it. And he does a great breakfast.

This is probably the nicest B&B I've ever stayed in. Spent a weekend here recently and it was wonderul. Great location at the edge of a lovely scenic town. The best breakfast I've ever had - no exaggeration. I particularly liked the fresh herbs and veg from the garden. Brian is a great host and couldn't be nicer.

Great value as well, relative to other B&Bs

Can't wait to return.

Spent four nights here in this old world accommodation which we thoroughly enjoyed.
The breakfasts were out of this world and the hosts were very attentive and friendly.
The only criticism was the condition of the shower,it could have been much cleaner.
