“Lovely, charming room, warm hostess, amazing breakfast”
Reviewed 26 May 2013

We regret we only had one night to stay. Eileen fed us a breakfast that was the best we had in Ireland. Began with breakfast fool made with home made yogurt, followed by eggs, sausages, bacon, delicious scones, toast, tea with milk, coffee and orange juice. Served with mix and match china and honey, jam, and served with cheerful energy.

Our room was on the ground floor, and reminded me of Anne of Green Gables somehow. Very clean, charming and we both slept like a rock. Lovely view of the bay.

We got their at dusk without reservation and rather lost. Eileen didn't skip a beat and made us feel welcome. She has the gift of hospitality in her genes.

Room Tip: The bottom floor does not have a tub - but the shower was hot and took off the chill just fine.

Gortnadiha Lodge lived up to the expectations! A very comfortable place to stay in a serene environment. The view towards the bay and Dungarvan is excellent. Breakfast was always something to look forward to - excellent coffee and freshly baked scones! I managed to relax and sleep very well as the bed and bedlinen are of a very high standard.

Not usually a B&B dweller - I found myself with little choice when attending a friends wedding in Dungarvan than to reconsider my past misgivings after luckily stumbling upon Gortnadiha Lodge in County Waterford.

Eileen greeted us with such a warm welcome that I couldn't help but be happy walking through the front door into a stylish hallway with a sweeping staircase, inviting even the least curious among us to wonder what elegant bedrooms awaited. Old world charm in the most sophisticated sense best describes the decor with each room treated to its own unique personality. I stayed in the "Chinese Room" with its delicate nod to its title carried out in the most tasteful manner with views stretching out over the ocean.

Breakfast was available up to 1130 in the morning and while an Irish breakfast was served to my friends and looked delicious, Eileen prepared 'yummy' granola and yogurt followed by cinnamon porridge to those of us looking for a lighter option.

A stunning location if you're looking to get away from it all in style and great value - truly a place to return!

i originally wasn't planning on staying here, but my nearby B&B accidentally overbooked me, but they drove me to this place instead. So although it was off-season and literally at 30-minute's notice, the hostess and accommodations were wonderful. also, best Irish Breakfast at any B&B on my Ireland trip. i'd gladly return, and recommend this place to anyone.

Eileen breathes hospitality. The minute she opens the door to you, you know you could only be in Ireland. We had a glass of whiskey together, a chat about food and lovely restaurants, before I toddled off to bed. Her home is as welcoming as she is. You're awaked to an array of choice for breakfast. Beautiful crunchy granola with stunning poached pears, porridge with (more) Irish whiskey, lovely scones, local apple juice, a fine selection of Irish cheeses and whatever else you can find room for. Her selection of food is all locally produced, Irish and seasonal and you can tell she takes pride in it, and in the way she runs her lovely business - and so she should.

I'll definitely be recommending this, and if you're thinking of going, I wouldn't think too much. This kind of hospitality is worth its weight in gold. Thanks Eileen.

My husband and I have just returned from a two night stay in Gortnadiha Lodge. Eileen Harty is the epitome of Irish hospitality, friendly, helpful and interested in her guests. Her home is comfortable and elegant but very welcoming. Guests eat at a communal dining table in a lovely room which also contains two comfortable sofas with a selection of guide books and information about the locality. Eileens cooking is excellent and the breakfasts were a delight, the table as beautiful to look at as the food was delicious. Our room was spacious and decorated with flair and attention to detail, with high quality bed linen and towels. The area has lots to offer, beautiful scenery, fine dining, hill walking and lots more. We will definitely be back to stay at Gortnadiha.

I stayed at 7 B&B's in Ireland during a 2-week vacation, and this one ranks #1! Eileen went out of her way to make my trip to Ireland truly special. I arrived to receive a warm hug at my car followed by a hot cup of tea after what had been a grueling trip including a flat tire. I experienced gracious elegance and comfort from the minute I arrived til the minute I left. She was very helpful and informative about the area, giving good advice and directions, without being intrusive. She even personally took me to the local tire shop to get my tire replaced! Gortnadiha Lodge (which would be more aptly named "Home") is beautifully furnished & decorated (with great attention to detail & lovely special touches). It is surrounded by wonderful gardens nestled up in the hills overlooking the shallow waters off Dungarven Harbour.

My upstairs room had old-world elegance, furnished with a very comfortable bed, antique furniture and accessories, fluffy towels and a soaking tub with lots of creams, shampoos & other bath products. Between the 2 bedrooms upstairs, there is a nice sitting area with tea service available. Throughout the home were shelves of books & magazines, many by Irish writers, or related to Irish history, culture & geography, Gaelic wisdom & wit, along with numerous classics and current fiction.

Breakfast was fabulous! Everything was extremely fresh, from the eggs, meats & baked goods to the fresh herbs, homemade jams and freshly squeezed OJ. Each morning, the dining room table was set with fine china & formal place settings. Set out daily were Muesli (cereal), yogurt and fresh fruit, along with several local cheeses, and delicious traditional Irish Brown Bread. In addition, there was a choice of "made-to order" breakfasts - ie., "full Irish" (including white & black pudding- don't miss trying it!), smoked salmon & eggs (done any style), etc.

Of all the B&B's in Ireland (& any other country, for that matter), this was by far the NICEST! It is about 3 miles from the downtown center of Dungarven. Dungarven has a beautiful harbour surrounded by many pubs, restaurants & shopping. It is convenient to Waterford, Wexford, Cork & lots of wonderful small villages such as Cahir, Clonmel, Ardmore, Youghal, and Lismore, If you are looking for a quiet retreat with breathtaking landscape, a gracious host and warm, inviting comfortable accomodations, you MUST stay here!

Room Tip: The room I would highly recommend had the soaking tub and is called the "China blue room"...
