“health hazard at best stay away!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2014

When we arrived at michaelstow we immediately found it in an advanced state of disrepair. It looked like it has been constructed in the seventy's and had not seen an update or even maintenance since then. All of the rooms were permeated with mould and damp, the bathroom was disgusting and we were enraged to find that having paid for the accommodation in the first place the electricity and heating ran on a metre.
We did not trust what little equipment and utensils had been provided. In general the quartets were unlivable , cabinet doors hanging off, cracked windows, doors that would not shut properly let alone lock the list goes on. Even when we were upgraded to the park's best accommodation there was little improvment.
As to the facilities available they were at best poor and at worst a downright health hazard. Any health and safety inspector would have had a heart attack to see the state of the place and as a mother of two I was particularly distressed by the state of the so called "children's games room". For a start the thing was merely a poor loft conversion in an old barn, the windows were broken, there were plant growing through cracks in the roof, the equipment was mostly damaged beyond repair and the banister was held in place by a few strands of rusty metal.
We stayed only one night whilst hoseasons arranged transfer accommodation at the FAR superior Hengar manor. Whilst there we weren't surprised to find someone else in a similar situation who, as it turned out, filed identical complaints and then transferred to the same resort at the same time.

In the end we did enjoy our week long break but urge people to read the reviews and strongly consider AVOIDING michaelstow.

Room Tip: There are no words . . . except perhaps AVOID!

We stayed here for a week commencing 16th August 2014 with our nieces in tow aged 12 and 14.

After reading the reviews after making the booking I was a bit sceptical but we had paid good money and weren't about to waste it.

We were given manor bungalow number 93 on arrival and straight away the smell of damp was overpowering and also the whole chalet was completely ran down, with the lock on the front door broken.

I immediately spoke to the receptionist regarding my concerns and she offered us number 26 to take a look at.

This "bungalow" was a little better, it still had a damp smell but the overall chalet was still very poor but to be honest manageable to use as a base for the week.

The double bed was very uncomfortable (but then again nothing beats your own bed does it?), the girls had bunk-beds which they said was very comfortable.

The bathroom was very dated, the bath was tin and there was a rusty spot in it but we just made sure we didn't stand on it when we showered, the toilet didn't flush very well but again manageable.

The kitchen was clean, however, a few items maybe needed ie. egg cups, tin opener and bread board, nothing major but we like our boiled eggs for breakfast so bought our own! There is also no bin provided.

The living room, had a small dining table with wooden seating which was fine, tv in good working order, the carpet was frayed and a trip hazard and the sofa bed was not comfortable to sit on as it kept sliding off the frame.

Yes the paint was peeling on the inside and out but it did us ok, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool was clean and the park was also ok.

The site is set in idyllic grounds although the chalets do let the place down as a whole.

We went to Michealstow for our family Summer holiday but having read other reviews about the park we were a little apprehensive to say the least, however on our arrival we were greeted by friendly staff who couldn't be more helpful. Our Bungalow was very basic but more than adequate for our needs, the site has pool and a small park which the children loved and were able to spend time playing with their new friends. The evenings entertainment was great it had something for everyone, Kids club started at 7.30 which kept the little ones happy until 9 and then it was Bingo shortly followed by the cabaret they had a different act every night we hadn't laughed and danced so much in ages.

Having read all the negative reviews I think many of them to be unfair!

Micheastow Holiday Park is lovely base to explore Cornwall, we won't hesitate going back in the near and distant future.

We read the bad reviews and wondered what we had booked. Our apartment was nice, clean and homely. But it had a ripped sofa and the smallest tv you could ever buy. The back bedroom became damp if we didnt leave it ventilated. The wall paper was peeling off the walls but a holiday is what you make it. It was a great base for exploring cornwall and it felt a very safe environment to be in. Everyone was nice and friendly and although most of the arcade machines in the games room didnt work there was still plenty to do for my family. The playground and swimming pool were a big hit with my 5 year old.

Booked as a base to explore Cornwall we understood that 'basic' wouldn't equate to 5* luxury but what 'basic' at Michaelstow Manor equates to can only be decribed as squalid.
We were met with a dilapidated shed complete with leaking flat roof, overgrown gutter and broken doorstep.
The interior was the stuff of nightmares.....filthy detritus ridden carpets, peeling walls, mould on every surface and the overwhelming stench of damp and decay. The beds were about as comfortable as sleeping on concrete and we were repulsed to find that neither mattress nor pillow protectors had been provided.
The bathroom was horrific...faeces encrusted toilet bowl with matching brush and a mat of pubic hair in the bath,a door which would neither close nor lock properly and a broken window catch. The staff hadn't even had the decency to provide us with a single toilet roll!
We had stocked up on some grocery essentials on route but felt unable to use the kitchen facilities as we were fearful of the standard of wiring and the general grease and filth. All crockery and utensils were chipped and mismatched and had obviously been acquired from a charity shop....and as anticipated needed to be scrubbed clean before use.
Essentially we had booked for a week's stay but not even the charms of the rugged north Cornish coast could keep us in this squalid, insect infested hole and we had to sadly cut our holiday short.
Please read the reviews on this site and look at the the photos and although it may be a cliche you couldn't indeed make it up....save your money and book elsewhere.

After reading some of the reviews we arrived expecting something horrible, this was not the case. Yes the accommodation exterior is dated but the insides were fine. The price paid reflected what you get. I went with my 3 small children and we used it as a base to travel around Cornwall, before leaving and returning each day they wanted to play in the play area, go swimming or play crazy golf and they loved it.
