When we arrived at michaelstow we immediately found it in an advanced state of disrepair. It looked like it has been constructed in the seventy's and had not seen an update or even maintenance since then. All of the rooms were permeated with mould and damp, the bathroom was disgusting and we were enraged to find that having paid for the accommodation in the first place the electricity and heating ran on a metre.
We did not trust what little equipment and utensils had been provided. In general the quartets were unlivable , cabinet doors hanging off, cracked windows, doors that would not shut properly let alone lock the list goes on. Even when we were upgraded to the park's best accommodation there was little improvment.
As to the facilities available they were at best poor and at worst a downright health hazard. Any health and safety inspector would have had a heart attack to see the state of the place and as a mother of two I was particularly distressed by the state of the so called "children's games room". For a start the thing was merely a poor loft conversion in an old barn, the windows were broken, there were plant growing through cracks in the roof, the equipment was mostly damaged beyond repair and the banister was held in place by a few strands of rusty metal.
We stayed only one night whilst hoseasons arranged transfer accommodation at the FAR superior Hengar manor. Whilst there we weren't surprised to find someone else in a similar situation who, as it turned out, filed identical complaints and then transferred to the same resort at the same time.
In the end we did enjoy our week long break but urge people to read the reviews and strongly consider AVOIDING michaelstow.
