Before booking this hotel, I had read a few reviews, all were excellent. My husband was aware of this hotel from many years ago, but as a derelict building. It was his suggestion that we stay there as it had been refurbished and the fact that it was my birthday due to the area it was placed in and the amazing views over the valley. We booked for 2 nights and found our stay to be really enjoyable. Whilst the hotel is still being refurbished in parts, we found our room to be really quirky. It is surrounded by the most beautiful countryside, with beautiful riverside walks or rambling over the hills.

Top quality natural bathing/moisturising products provided were perfect for my extremely sensitive skin, which means that the owners go to that extra length to make your stay comfortable. The choices for breakfast were second to none and cooked wonderfully. The Derbyshire Oat Cake is to die for with lovely egg and bacon.

Chris and Melanie were the perfect hosts, extremely friendly and welcoming. You could not ask for anything more.

Room Tip: We asked for a quiet room and got one. If you don't ask, you won't get, and Chris and Melan...

This lovely hotel in picturesque Matlock bath is in the process of being re-vamped. We stayed the night in a beautifully decorated double room with a Huge comfortable bed.
Chris, Mel and their staff are really friendly and the breakfast can not be beaten.
I can not recommend too much.

Chris and his staff do an amazing job of making you feel welcome. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the breakfast is delicious and the location is fantastic. We had a number of rooms booked out for our wedding party, and while I never plan on hosting another wedding, I certainly wouldn't mind staying here again. Thank you!

Room Tip: At the time we stayed, not all of the rooms had showers installed. If you require a shower then plea...

My partner and I stayed here for a weekend. I hadn't visited Matlock Bath before so didn't know what to expect. What a beautiful little place and I have to say the hotel was pleasant and added to my experience in Matlock Bath.

We arrived by train and walked through Holme Road rather than along the main front. It was a steep climb but worth the picturesque scenery. We spotted the hotel from the top of the hill which stood grand.

We arrived at the hotel and was greeted by a polite lady who offered to take our bags but we were only on the first floor so there was no need. The lady still personally showed us to our room. On route to our room you can see the refurbishment taking place but this wasn't an issue as the owner Chris had emailed well in advance to explain this.

Our room was clean and the bathroom quite large. Once the hotel is refurbished it could potentially become #1 hotel in Matlock Bath.
The bed was comfy and we ended up sleeping in everyday. We missed breakfast one day for this reason and were disappointed because the breakfasts are delicious - very good quality!

The views from the hotel are amazing!! This made it even more unique because the hillside location gives it an extra special touch and takes you away from the chippy smell on the front. We decided one evening to stay and have a drink at the hotel. The bar is traditional and cosy and my partner said it was the best pint he'd drunk in Matlock Bath. We didn't sit in the bar during our stay because we were fortunate with the weather so we decided to sit outside and enjoy the views, however I'd like to come back in the colder months and sit in the bar area to get that old school warming winter feeling.

When the bar closed the lady kindly came out and offered us our last drinks. She brought a candle out for us whilst we finished our last drink. The personal touch with the candle gave a romantic atmosphere.

Overall the hotel was lovely even though it does need updating and the service was just excellent which for me makes all the difference! Bottom line - I'll book again at this hotel!

The hotel is a very friendly place, it's clean and a beautiful building in a brilliant location ( the views are amazing!)
The staff were very helpful and friendly! We turned up for breakfast 20 mins late and the owner had closed the kitchen, he re opened and served us breakfast! Which was very kind of him.
The room was nice and had everything u need in it!
Breakfast menu had a good choice and the food was good.
We did not try the evening food but if it was to the quality of the breakfast I would imagine it was nice ?
Would defiantly stay again !
Reading previous reviews it seems that the hotel has taken them in to account as redecoration is taking place and also help with our bags was offered by a very nice lady on reception !
All in all a very nice place to stay
Thankyou

The temple hotel is well positioned for a base in the Peak District. However the hotel has seen better days although to be truthful steps are underway to redecorate and hopefully update it. The staff were very helpful although the bar was unmanned for periods when food was being collected from the kitchen which was not that close! Also the food is only served in the bar and the menu rather restricted. Some rooms have brilliant views along the valley but our room was rather smaller than we had expected or as described over the phoned when we booked. However it was comfortable enough. The hotel is in a very quiet location, not troubled by any passing traffic and away from the main road through Matlock Bath.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the valley & river.

stayed here whilst working nearby.

A very welcoming hotel, which appears to be undergoing a much needed freshen up, as decorating was underway when we arrived.

As previous reviewers have mentioned, the double room was very small, but the bed was comfortable. Standard Breakfast is from 8.30am - although our request for a 7.30am breakfast was cheerfully accommodated.

Although free WI-fi is advertised as being available in the bedrooms, the local landscape made connections very difficult, which wasn't a massive issue as i could reschedule the online work I had to do, but something to be aware of.
