went there wanting to see the mine but they only run 1 tour a day and we missed it by about 10mins. I don't know why they only run 1 tour a day it seems a bit stupid and annoying for those who don't know that fact as there is no mention on the website that they only run 1 tour a day. the museum was a lil boring it seemed like more fun for kids rather then adults.

What a shame that you did not enjoy your visit.
I am sorry that you did not manage to go on the mine tour. We do advertise on the website and facebook that there is only one mine trip at 1pm each day. See www.peakdistrictleadminingmuseum.co.uk for more information.
We advise that you reserve places on the mine tour in advance to avoid disappointment by phoning 01629 583834.
We would love to run more tours but there is not enough demand to cover the increased cost of employing additional staff.

Called in for a visit there is a carpark right next door and allows you 2 hours
Ideal if you are just to the museum but if you have booked the mine maybe not long enough
Museum has loads of exhibits and a chance to feel what it's like climbing in the small spaces
Good value £4 each and return free in the year
If you are local there are very interesting maps of the many mines in the area
Good for an hour and interesting enough
No toilets though

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. It is good to hear that you felt you got value for the entry fee. I do hope that you will be able to visit us again soon.
Unfortunately the council closed the public toilets that were next door to the museum and we do not have the space to build any inside our part of the building. However we are working with the town council to apply for grants to build a new toilet block. We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing.

Found this place by driving past it and visited: a fascinating museum with a wide range of exhibits including a model lead mine that you can actually enter. To my surprise they also have a real lead mine with many of the original tools still there a short walk from the museum. The staff were very friendly and the tour guide very well informed.

.... As the weather. Turned up especially to go down into the mine. No notices on the website that they were closed. Just decided 63 students closed it. (As if they hadn't had those bookings for a while) Could have come back later but the daft car park situation of max 2 hours makes it impossible. Comes across as lazy and poorly run.

I am so sorry that you missed out on going to the mine. We had published it on our facebook page but unfortunately not on the website and I can only apologise for that. There were not meant to be any public visits that day but the staff were willing to run one just for yourself after the school had left. The car park next to the museum is run by the District Council and we share your frustration over the two hour limit but the council will not change it. I hope you will be able to visit again, we always advise you 'phone to reserve a place on 01629 583834 to avoid disappointment.
