“Amazing hotel amazing night sleep”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2013

I was welcomed at reception by management who was really bubbly and nice to talk to. I got to my room and was really happy with the cleanliness and ultra modern and chic boutique room which was equipped with flat screen tv , tea and coffee making facility's , rainforest shower and amazingly comfy bed . The room was also air conditioned I went down stairs to the bar area which was really nice and welcoming . The food was amazing and I would defiantly stay here again and would advise to family and friends.

A new boutique style hotel, rooms very modern and comfortable, bathrooms especially chic. Breakfast was lovely, with quite a choice of extras. We went on the last mimute and was not disappointed, the only drawback was the rain, we could not enjoy the view due to the mist. But if clear we could have seen thr Heights of Abraham, a cable car ride . Overall a lively hotel, in a lovely setting.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the cable cars.

We stayed at this hotel 19th and 20th of July as we were getting married close by I stayed on my own Friday night and my wife joined me on the Saturday.on checking in Friday I was met at the reception by a charming young man who was very helpful he took me up to my room the honeymoon sweat on opening the door I climb the stairs to the room I didn't expect what I saw next the room was a tip leaves all over the floor from open windows dead flies on the bed and in the bath and to make things worse there was blood marks on one of the clean towels I felt sick paying £175 a night for this room and to top it all of you would get a better breakfast from a cafe not good.

Room Tip: View before stay.

Dear Carl

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I would however, like to take the time to discuss some of the points you have raised.

I apologise for the fact that the cleaner took it upon herself to leave your window open after the room had been cleaned after the departure of the guests from the following night. As it was one of the hottest days of the year, I believe she thought you may have appreciated a mild breeze running into the room. As the room and hotel itself is in the countryside and that particular room built with views looking up to the woodland, unfortunately a few insects may have inadvertently entered your room - and for this I extend my apologies.

As for the towels, I have spoken with our linen supplier and they have agreed to ensure more diligent checks are done on on any linen sent to the hotel

This aside, I believe I asked both yourself and wife if you had enjoyed your stay to which you both responded that you had, and none of the above had been mentioned to me at all. Although it is your prerogative to leave such reviews, I do wish this would have been bought to my attention at the time and then maybe we could have rectified any issues and made your stay a more enjoyable one.

Stayed at this hotel 13-14th of July. We stayed in room 5 which as soon as the door opened I could not believe the small price we payed for such a room. The room was very clean and lots of room. The bathroom was spotless with a very large bath and separate shower. The all of the hotel was very nicely decorated and clean. The staff made us feel very special and nothing was too much trouble even got a cheese sandwich after the restaurant had closed. The bar is well stocked and the drinks a fair price for a hotel. The food was very very good the chicken pie was to die for and the breakfast the next morning we had plenty of choice and it was very well cooked and served. Cant wait for another visit by far one of my best breaks.

Room Tip: I would imagine any room would be fantastic to stay in

After a few years of illness and being looked after and cared for by my husband, 2 sons and daughters in law I decided to take them away for a couple of nights, i looked at the internet at hotels in Matlock and the High Tor caught my eye for the for the simple reason we had our Honeymoon here 33 years ago.. I went ahead and booked it a nd then saw the comments on trip advisor and i became a bit anxious, i didnt need to the hotel is first class, friendly staff (the guy on nights even made us all some sandwiches at 1am in the morning in the bar) the rooms were very nice and breakfasts delicious, we shall certainly be coming again thankyou

Room Tip: if you are disabled then room 107 is perfect

We stayed at this hotel 1-4th July, and didn't have a single issue with it. We booked the executive room (10) with the 2 sinks in the bathroom, and it exceeded my expectations. Spotless, beautiful decor, memory foam layer on the mattress... Everything was perfect. As my partner loves his tea, we did run out of sugar and milk often, but whenever we asked they brought some up to the room immediately. Everyone was friendly, the food was great and the drinks very reasonably priced.

We would definitely stay again, thank you for a lovely break.

Room Tip: Would definitely recommend room 10, the executive double :)

I stayed at this hotel on the 3rd July by myself as I was on a course close by. The hotel is spotlessly clean and is a beautiful old building with a nice modern twist.

My room was lovely and the bathroom was great with a nice big bath . Room no 1 is on the road but there is very little road noise at night ... and you can see the Tor from the room in all it's glory

The service was super and the food was very good , every bit as good as any fancy london gaff and half the price ! , I had fish and chips and the fish was cooked to perfection. I asked if i could have my dessert and coffee outside as it was a nice evening and this was duly served with no problems at all.

I would stay here again and I would visit just for dinner as it is a really nice place. The breakfast was good too and the dining room is nicely laid out in white linen , the bar area is great too ..

As for the poor review from a previous person , i do take the point about "boutique " and without going over every point they made , no there is no high thread count and no maybe it is not as boutique as some hotels , however if those things were in place in this lovely little hotel then the person reviewing would have been paying quadruple the price .. Boutique in the true sense is not available to all as it does not come cheap , this hotel offers a great alternative for people on a more modest budget without scimping on quality

This hotel is lovely and I wish the owners the very best for the future of this hotel , I dare say you wont get a room soon as it will be full most of the time due to the high quality of the food , and cleanliness of this hotel .. The hotel is good for all , couples , families and girls weekend away ...

This is a great hotel at a good price for business clients passing through too ....

Room Tip: Room 1 was good , quiet and a large bathroom with bath.
