“A welcome and relaxing stay”
Reviewed 22 April 2014

My Partner and I were in Matlock Bath for a Birthday bash, we had a look at a few B&B's and unlike us just selected any as were only in need of a bed to rest our head(s).
We arrived at the house to be greeted by Barry who was lovely, he showed us around and gave us all the top tips on where to go and what to do in Matlock Bath.
We told him our plans to visit Chatsworth House by foot (possible, if you want a good long walk, don't advise flip-flops though :s) Barry got us a map, bus routes, advice, the lot, very useful and helpful.
The room was huge with an en-suite bathroom, TV, DVD player anything you would need. Breakfast was great, we just felt very at home.
A must if you are in the area.
Thanks Barry and Lindy for making us feel at home and informed of the local treats :)

I booked this hotel as everyone seemed to rav about how friendly and welcoming the owners are. I guess this might be true if you're male. On arrival I introduced myself with an outstretched hand, and the owner reached across me to my husband, shook his hand and said 'Hi you must be X' !! When I spoke the answers were directed at my husband. That said, my husband was given all the info he could have wished for, where was still open to eat, what entertainment was on and where, a menu with choice of breakfasts for the next morning, and a time you'd like to be seated. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was well presented with lovely home made bread. Good value for money. Great location. Friendly if you don't mind playing the role of the 'little woman' ;-)

We always have a night in Matlock Bath, every year, for my wife's birthday. This was our first stay at the Ashdale and won't be our last.
This place represents everything that is great about english hospitality - warm hosts, spotless rooms, a hearty home made breakfast and overall great value.
A lovely place, in a lovely spot run by some lovely people.

It was great to return to this lovely guest house to see the Illuminations and Fire work display.
Barry and Lindy are a welcoming, friendly, proffesional couple (as mentioned in other reviews) and we have had some great days out on their advice. They have even provided train and bus time tables.
Should I write this review?...Well, I don't want it to get over booked so that we may find it difficult to return again ! No I can't be that mean, so I've attached a photo of their award winning breakfast certificate and it is a well deserved.

We stayed here for a Saturday at the end of September and feel lucky to have found this lovely Guest House. The owners made us and our mother and auntie most welcome and offered helpful advice about the local area. The rooms were clean, comfortable and the breakfast delicious with home made preserves and lovely bread. We would recommend this B & B to anyone. Thank you to Barry & Lindy for making our stay so pleasant.

Our house was built in 1847, is early Victorian, built in the Georgian style in the centre of the village of Matlock Bath which was developed as a spa. There are still some natural thermal springs and a petrifying well. There are four spacious en-suite rooms, three of which are family rooms. A cot is available. Within walking distance are Gulliver's Kingdom (Childrens theme park), Cable Cars to Heights of Abraham, (where you can visit to old lead mines), the Museum and Aquarium with the petrifying well, the Mining Museum, and an assortment of restaurants and pubs with regular live music. Masson Mills (shopping village and museum in Arkwright's historic mill) is 10 minutes walk and there are many small, interesting shops both in Matlock Bath, and within nearby Matlock & Cromford. ... more   less
