One of the most charming and unusual places we've ever stayed at. Standard stuff: it's one minute from the shops, three minutes from the sea front; our top floor bedroom had buckets of space and a supremely comfortable bed (plentiful pillows, cosy duvet, crisp white linen) plus immaculate bathroom. Non-standard stuff: if you can imagine a cross between boutique hotel living and settling in at a friend's house, this is it. Funny, warm and welcoming, owner Jilly is a great host and can tell you anything you need to know about good places to visit locally. However she's also got a touch of genius when it comes to interiors; each room is unique, with retro furnishings alongside modern artefacts, many by local craftspeople (some of whose work is also exhibited in cabinets in the sitting room). Belvidere Place is a work of art in progress and I can't wait to see what Jilly has added by the time we return - which we undoubtedly will, with luck in balmier days when we can enjoy the lovely little courtyard garden. On a more prosaic note, you will simply not get a better breakfast anywhere; don't miss the locally-sourced specialist sausages that kept us fuelled all day! A big thank you to the friends who recommended it to us and to Jilly for a fabulous short break. If you're after style with the personal touch, this is the place for you.
