Contrary to recent negative reviews our family group of 4 cousins plus partners had a most enjoyable overnight stay with dinner at the Royal Albion. Levels of service and courtesy from all staff we encountered were of the highest order, with particular mention going to Harriet, George and Ryan and the reception girls. Our room was small and quirky but very clean and had a lovely view out over the harbour. The decor was very pleasant with only a few minor scuffs due to suitcases. We slept well and the room was peaceful. We took a snack lunch in the bar and later had a table for the family dinner. The food was surprisingly good, as was the wine. (Great NZ sauvignon blanc.) I can highly recommend the smoked duck starter - delicious! Minor quibbles were that my hake was overcooked (but the sauce was tasty) and my wife's seafood linguine was rather dry and had too much pasta to seafood for her taste. As we were on a very generous deal we had no reason to complain. The following morning breakfast was also good, with a wide choice available, and again accompanied by delightful service. I enjoyed the obligatory "full English". This is a welcoming, characterful hotel in an outstanding location and we will add it to our list for a revisit.

Room tip: Ask for recently renovated room

What is happening with the Royal Albion ! It used to be the place to go full of atmosphere and good food. Everything has changed and appears poorly managed.
Thought we give it another try as locals …
Went to have a meal on a Sunday evening at 1850 and told sorry we have just taken an order and now out of food.
Appears to be having further renovations but it was so much nicer prior to the previous blue / grey theme. Maybe leave the decorating and concentrate on good and hot food and efficient, welcoming service.
My parents went for a meal a few weeks ago. Very long wait and then saw staff wandering about to all other tables with their meals … food arrived luke warm and definitely not worth the price. They commented to the staff who offered a 25% discount. However, they then could not work out how to give the refund !!
It really isn’t worth going here with the Dickens next door !
Oh and breakfast is now a smaller portion for ‘full’ English and more expensive with the cheapest thin piece of toast possible !
The Albion are really letting Broadstairs down and a big sorting out requires !

After waiting 45mins for our food to arrive, it proved to be very disappointing. If cold, lumpy, unseasoned mash potatoes and raw kale is what you desire, then this is definitely the dining experience for you.

We booked a table for lunch only to be told "there's a problem in the kitchen and they wouldn't be serving food" he came back and said " all sorted but there's a 45 minute wait". Extremely disappointing we were not prepared to wait that long so we left

Room tip: Scaffolding everywhere so not a good view

I do not like leaving negative reviews, bur this place needs looking at. We booked two twin rooms for my mums birthday at over 200 a room. The room my mum and I had was up many stairs and far too much for my mum. This was not their fault. So we swapped with my brothers who room was on a lower level. There was a further mix up after the swap, which again was not the hotels mistake, it was ours. The man on reception could not have been more helpful trying to rectify things for us, which was greatly appreciated and we did thank him. Both rooms were tired, and not very clean. Fire doors on route to the room were propped open with wooden coat hangers, not only a serious health and safety breach in the event of fire but which also looked awful. Rooms which were empty and being renovated had the doors open and lights on all day and night, these rooms were afjacent to out room and this made the whole hotel look shabby and very dirty. Landing carpets were filthy. Having just managed major works in a nine storey building I understand how hard it is to keep communal areas clean, but never have I experienced this amount of dirt from works. Unfortunately you have to keep on top of these things especially where younhaving paying guests! . Everything felt grubby, the doors open everywhere made for an unpleasant experience, absolute eyesore. We sat in the bar for drinks before heading out to dinner, tables were dirty and it felt run down. The bar was dirty and just not managed. Followed by a terrible nights sleep due to noise outside till 3am (this was out of the hotels control I get that) then lorries unloading from 6am onwards. Breakfast was okay but the fruit and yoghurt needed to be coveted, there were lots of fruit flies on it, very off-putting. Breakfast was okay, no complaints with the food or service. All in all so disappointed, what should have been a special 75 birthday celebration in what we expected to be a lovely hotel, was nothing of the sort. Shepherd Neame seriously need to spot check this venue. We did pass on our comments about the cleanliness to the receptionist on the way out, who said she would pass on to housekeeping.
