The house and its adjacent garden is truly unique for the way it has been restored by its owners. Don't rush through, take time to enjoy every small detail as it will really take you back to Dickens's times.

A wonderful house, with a beautiful garden. Well worth a visit with a guide in each room to talk you through the experience.

This place drips history, from King Charles II staying here on his way back from exile to Charles Dickens Satis House in Great Expectations.

Highly recommended!

This is the house in Charles Dickens book Great Expectations. It is a house to be visited when exploring the places in many of his books.
It is a very well cared for house and a credit to its owners.
Only open on Wednesdays during part of the year, check opening days and times.

A truly wonderful restoration of a house which was threatened with demolition not so long ago. It is named after the fact that Charles !! visted the house on his way back into London after the monarchy was restored in Britain after the civil war.
Thanks to the new owners dedication and determination it is now a real jewel in the city . Every room is full of interesting items from furniture to Paintings and ceramics. Each room has a very knowledgeable curator who can hold an audience's attention with their wide range of information. Totally fascinating..
The gardens outside are in the process of being restored with some remarkable archaeological discoveries coming to light resulting in the reconstruction of a Tudor Garden which in itself is very rare. Work is on going with that section of the garden but the other sections are beautifully kept and full of interest. They are the best lawn I've seen for a long while.
Well wortha visit when it is open ( which is for a restricted time in the year only as it is still a private house)

The old walled garden at Restoration House is a hidden gem; it includes a immaculate lawn and partarre, a pretty pond and water course, paths lead through old walls and steps to a greenhouse with geraniums and echiums, and a vegetable garden with espalliered fruit trees. You can climb up a tower and get a wonderful view of the house and gardens, and see what looks like a very large new exciting landscaping project under construction on a lower level. Theres also a small tea room in lovely old kitchen with handmade cakes. A peaceful and beautiful place to visit, just a few steps from the high street in Rochester.
