When we arrived there was no-one to book us in just a phone number to ring had to wait 10 minutes, when we finally got to the room as soon as opened the door we could smell damp. Wallpaper coming off the wall the taps on the sink didn't works . No-one on recepition at all and the front gates the only way in the hotel was locked at 6. 30. Just as we were going out we were told if we can't open them we would have to park our car some were else all together disgusted in this place would not stay here again

Just turned up at Royal Victoria and Bull. We rejected the room because it was dirty and covered in flies. Good location but we could not stay. The building has seen better times and the staff were trying their best. There was a shower en suite but this and the hand basin unusable. The nearby toilet again was smelly and dirty.

It is such a pity because in its day I believe this would be a fantastic traditional hotel but now, even unloved doesnt describe it. You get what you pay for admittedly but this hotel, " under refurbishment", ( if indeed it is), should be closed temporarily whilst the work is done. Can only assume that funds of sorts are needed. Im not going to list all the bads, just point out the friendly staff. If youre happy to walk into a tired worn out time warp - go for it, otherwise steer clear!

Its a shame really as the people that work here are really nice and theyre trying to do the best with the place but yeah...black mould everywhere, no toilet but a shower facing the window, no tv signal, really noisey, room full of flies. Just hands down so awful, stayed one night due to jetlag but cancled the other night and went somewhere else that was cheaper and alot better. Shame really.

We knew it was cheap & an old building, no breakfast but Wetherspoons was down the road, £45 a night OK. The receptionist said there may be some wallpaper hanging off & after all it's an old building but it's clean. What we didn't expect was, everything in the bathroom was broken & my husband had to tape up the shower as it fell off when I moved it! We are bikers & always carry some tools & things for our own use, not to fix stuff in hotels! Uncomfortable bed & pillows, TV was very small & not working. The staff were hardly ever on reception & had to wait for our room to be cleaned by the receptionist as she was on her own, so didn't get into our room for over half an hour.I could put up with old furniture & a bed that bangs on the wall but, no TV, awful shower, no net curtain in the bathroom & the bathroom door couldn't be closed as you got shut in. We dare not touch the windows either as the wood was rotten. At least we had asked for a quiet room & on a Sunday & Monday night it was OK, apart from a stiff neck due to the bed. The hotel was mainly full of workmen that were staying there so that's a clue, It's a pity they weren't working in the rooms or the hotel!

Room Tip: Back rooms are quieter

Stayed here for two weeks in different rooms, read reviews before hand and was hoping the work they were having done was completed but it looked like it hadn't started. my first room wasn't to bad, second room needed a new wallpaper as it was hanging off, the headboards weren't attached to the beds and kept banging on the wall throughout the night, TVs were old and too small to see from more than 2 meters, they only have wifi in the lobby or bar, beds weren't made every day. The place has potential as the rooms aren't a bad size but it really needs a good strip out and makeover with new furniture ect.

It was dirty, tatty, the bed was like a brick and whoever the cleaners are need to be sacked Tiolet was filthy and as for all the facilities that are advertised its a load of tosh!!!!!! Keys didnt fit and we had to scramble under the hugh lock gatesin the front of the hotel to get in as the key didnt work. I wouldn,t recommend this hotel to anyone The only thing going for it is that it is convienient for the high stree But thats about all NEVER AGAIN !!!

Room Tip: no tips except dont go there
