A delightful old farmhouse on a working farm (great for the children to get close to the animals). It was a lovely afternoon so we were offered tea out on the lawn, where the resident cat & dog came to join us. The children loved wandering round the farm yard and there is a delightful garden to enjoy. Rooms were comfortable, full of character and well equipped. In such an old house you have to be ready for uneven floors and the staircase could be a challenge for anyone with mobility problems. The plumbing was a little eccentric too on one occasion, but Cathy was quickly able to restore the missing hot water supply! The stay was rounded off with a satisfying cooked breakfast. Altogether a good experience and we left feeling that we had been welcomed into the home rather than simply given a bed for the night.

I've stayed here another three times since my last review.
It's been reurbished and is now better than ever. Attention to detaol glows from every part. Gorgeous tolietries in the bathrooom, quality herbal teas as well as tea and coffee in the rooms, there's even hot chocolate! The beds are so comfy, the rustic farmhouse just charming, a great place for a romantic break and to visit the beautiful countryside. There are piglets, hens, ducks and geese in and around the farm, beautifully kept in a real farmyard setting around the simply gorgeous farmhouse. It's a real privialege to share this space with Cathy and Nick. Breakfast is divine. A choice of cereals, lovely yoghurts, home baked bread, home made jams and your choice of Shrewley Farm eggs along with locally sourced English Breakfast ingredients. This time we had tomatoes from Cathy's garden.
I use this as a oasis from the chaos of the NEC and birmingham when working at the NEC. It's the area's best kept secret and takes about 15-20mins door to door in the morning if you leave at 8am. If you are tired after a long day you can opt for Cathy's Pot Luck supper - you eat what she's cooking but she will try and cater for special diets if she can. I love coming here, so don't hog it! Nothing is too much trouble. The garden is lovely, the farm is delightful and it's fantastic value for money.
I wanted to add that you can barely hear the cockerels as they are in their barn, tucked up and happy until mid morning, so don't think you will be wakened in the early hours. Unless you have radar scanners for ears, you will barely know they are there. The odd clucking hen adds a lovely ambience to the almost silent country scene.

I've stayed here a few times over the recent years for trade shows at the NEC. It's a working farm, so don't book if you can't cope with farm animals, cockerels and a little early morning activity. This is the perfect contrast to boring, stuffy, corporate hotels. A real home shared with visitors for the duration of their stay. Cathy is an attentive and friendly hostess rustling up real farmhouse fare for breakfast (she can even cope/tolerate veggies!). Watch out for adorable family pets that are part of the warm welcome, hens that may hop into the car as you unload and a yard full of friendly and happy ducks and farmyard fowl. Rooms are pretty, comfortable and functional with low beams, real wood floors and a ricketty staircase, but it is all charming and real. No fake beams here.
