8 of us were walking the Great Glen Way and we all enjoyed our meal here - best of the holiday! 4 of us had the lamb shank and it just fell of the bone - delicious. Two had haggis and rated it very highly and the others had salmon and smoked salmon. We were all pleased and the service was excellent and the atmosphere good too. We were driven back to our B & B after the meal which was appreciated.

WOW! I was with a group of 6 vegans and vegetarians hiking the Great Glen Way when we stopped by for dinner, we were all blown away by the food...they had vegetarian haggis!! I've never had real haggis but this stuff was delicious! We also had an incredible curry, roasted peppers and pasta. Everything tasted incredible and the portions were very generous. Be aware that we had to place our orders before arriving because space is limited. By far one of our favorite surprises during the trek :)

The Eagle is a Dutch barge floating in the Caledonian Canal, and now serving as a restaurant and pub. It's easily accessed by boat (!), road, or on foot from the Great Glen Way. As you might expect, it is full of atmosphere, full of maritime artifacts, and the staff are friendly and welcoming.

The sit-down restaurant is quite small - there were 13 places set the evening we called - and you need to ring up to reserve a table and also choose your meal. It's a good idea to check prices at the same time as you need to pay cash - they don't take plastic. There's no starters - just main course, pudding, and teas/coffees.

The meals are simple food, simply cooked, and quite delicious. If you're serving a whole trout full of flavour, why drown it in fancy sauces? The puddings looked bought in rather than made on board, but enjoyable all the same.

At just under £50 for the two us us including drinks and teas/coffees, it was good value.

And yes, it does have a duplicate entry at http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g2549626-d3198551-Reviews-The_Eagle_Barge-Laggan_Scottish_Highlands_Scotland.html

After 20 miles of walking with NO facilities on the Great Glen Way, this was a wee gem. Good food and drink and a seat, good service. What more can I say...

From the moment we stepped in the welcome was warm and friendly. We were the only ones in there and we were made to feel at home. The food was oustanding.
The place is so unique and an aladdins cave of artefacts we must go back soon.

Thank Gary P
