Our stay could not have been better. Julia and Steve were so welcoming and helpful. Carters Rest is a bit remote, but most of the island is remote. It's a short drive or long walk out to a gorgeous lighthouse set in some amazing cliffside scenery. We could hear sheep bleating from our open window, and the spectacular view from the breakfast room as like a postcard made real. Julia's porridge made the mornings. The room had robes and water and snacks, and everything we could need, thanks to the thoughtfulness of our hosts. Our only regret was that we hadn't planned for more nights at this delightful place.

We only had one night at Carters Rest, but wished we could have stayed longer.

Upper Milovaig is a gem in the northwest of Skye and Carters Rest is situated on the hill overlooking the bay and snug harbour. Everything here exceeded expectations, from the genuinely warm welcome of hosts Steve and Julia, to the attention to detail in the rooms, excellent breakfast and perhaps the most comfortable bed in Scotland!

Many thanks and looking forward to returning.

My husband and I stayed two nights at the Carters Rest Guesthouse on Skye. It's quite remote (as is most of the lodging in Skye) and situated amidst hills, a handful of homes and beautiful views of the water, hills, and sheep. You drive there on a single track road (9 miles from Dunvegan) and feel you have truly disconnected from the demands of our daily lives. The innkeepers - Steve and Julie - are welcoming and helpful. The lodging is cosy, well-equipped, clean and quiet. The bed is comfortable. The breakfast was well done. All in all a great stay and a strong recommendation. No complaints at all.

Room Tip: Carters offers both B&B lodging as well as a self-catering suite.

We spent 2 nights at Carter's rest and it was beyond our expectations for the price. We chose the standard room which has a great view of some mountains and sheeps but it was quiet enough For our beauty sleep haha. We reckon the location of the guesthouse is quieter as it is not directly along the road as compared to other b&b. House is beautifully decorated and Our fav room was the breakfast room which was very picturesque (we could sit there all day haha). Whole place looks modern and we wonder if its newly done up or what. Our room was large, very clean, very well lit(we have been to some b&b which doesn't bother to put many lights in so we can't really read in them), well equipped with fridge, kettle, iron, ironing board, hair dryer, tablet for surfing, DVD player, even multi cables for your iphone/samsung phones etc and even bottle opener. There was a billard table in the lounge but we were too tired from exploring isle of skye that we didnt use it haha. Shows Julie and Steve's thought that goes into equipping and decorating the house/room. They even tidied our room and supplied us with new towels on the 2nd day. Julie and Steve was ever so friendly and even helped us call and book for a boat trip to legal as we didn't know what else to do on the 2nd day. Julie's recommendations of dinner places was also spot on. 5 star b&b We would say.

My wife and I recently returned from 9 days in Scotland, and this was the best place we stayed. Skye is visually spectacular and Carter's Rest is ideal for enjoying the scenery. Walking the lane towards the small harbor is a treat, and the nearby lighthouse (10 minutes by car) is wonderful. Try to get to the lighthouse early in the morning, and you will have the whole area to yourself (except for the sheep). Steve and Julie are excellent hosts with plenty of information about what to do and where to eat. The nice thing about Carter's Rest is that it is quiet and isolated, but this does mean that you will have to drive 30-40 minutes for the sites on the eastern side of the island.

We recently spent 5 nights at Carters Rest. There's a reason why so many rate it so highly; Julie and Steve are outstanding hosts in all ways and took care of our every need. We felt genuinely cared for and supported in our travels around Skye. We would return in an instant. First class in all respects!
