Description: The South Okanagan has gained a well deserved reputation as a desirable destination for tourists seeking an agricultural and culinary experience. The Sonora Room at Burrowing Owl Estate Winery features prominently in this regard with its epicurean excellence, superb service, relaxed style and scenic splendour. The restaurant overlooks 146 acres of picturesque vineyard from the patio or inside the warm and inviting dining room. The philosophy of the talented culinary team is to embrace the opportunity to showcase many of the South Okanagan’s local producers. Dishes are created that utilize an array of local organic produce, seasonal fruits and artisan cheeses, and pair perfectly with Burrowing Owl's award winning wines. The exclusive wine list includes a selection of Burrowing Owl's current vintages, and library wines that are no longer publicly available for sale. Creative cuisine, impeccable service and a beautiful venue highlight the great agricultural diversity of the region.

I have travelled all over the world to wine regions, Tuscany, Mendoza etc. I found on both times at the Burrowing Owl they are full of themselves and are rude to people. Don't get me wrong..the food is good and is typically overpriced for a winery. Do yourself a favour and go across the valley to Terafina! Or stop by Black Hills and ask for Michael..a true wine evangelist!

After purchasing our Favorite Wines and Port at the Burrowing Owl Winery we strolled over to the Sonora Room. Inside dining at a window table was pleasantly cool with a great view of the vineyard.
Sonora Room menu offers something for everyone. Service was well above par. Wine pairing was excellent.

Chef Brock recommended. We ordered ,shared and enjoyed !
A cooling drink of Eau de Tomate followed by a Salad Platter , West Coast Octopus, Foie Gras West Coast Salmon, Rib Eye steak, all seasoned to perfection with local fresh organic herbs, local honey, tomatoes, roasted grapes, spiced cauliflower florets, tiny fruits, miniature vegetables, sprouts, edible flowers and simply wonderful wine reductions and sauces.
Dessert was Ice-cream with Seasonal Berries and Chocolate.

We enjoyed each and every morsel, a first for us was the Eau de Tomate which was indeed a cooling drink and the Octopus which was meaty and flavorful. Salad platters, fresh, healthy delicious and aesthetically pleasing.
Thank you Chef Brandon , our Salmon was tasty , flaky and moist.
Decadant and Delicious Foie Gras and Rib Eye Steak cooked to Perfection.

A big thank you to Chef Brock and the entire talented culinary team at the Sonora Room Restaurant for a “Healthy Delicious and Amazing” one of a kind dining experience. Chef Brock Chef Brandon Ingela and the lovely ladies thank you for sharing all the info regarding our food choices.

A treat. You get to shop for great wine and then have a great lunch. Have been here every summer for the past 4. Consistently excellent. The view of the valley from the veranda is wonderful. Can be a little warm outside but well worth it. Service is excellent and staff well informed. Menu different from visit to visit and always has good variety of choices. Wines pairing options also excellent. Desserts this time were the best ever - new pastry chef apparently; worth a try, even for lunch. Highly recommended as a stop on your wine touring.

I have eaten at restaurants in and near wineries around the world. I am picky and a foodie. I am a James Beard Award Nominee. Here is my conclusion about the Sonora Room at the Burrowing Owl: it is the second or third best restaurant in western Canada and the best winery restaurant in North America. The hostess is distracted and uninformed and this has been noted by other reviewers on this site; but the kitchen and the service staff are first rate. The confit and the fresh ricotta dishes (more than one--including the heirloom tomatoes and the polenta) are killer good. The glass pours are excellent, especially the Meunier glass pour not from BO but from 8th generation, a winery in summerland. The guest rooms and outdoor pool look inviting but are inaccessible, as they are booked, according to the front desk, for "at least 9 months in advance." Stop here. Eat here. You will feel fulfilled and satisfied and will drive down the road totally free of any GI disturbance, because the skilllful kitchen used fresh local ingredients as too few kitchens do these days. Many of the wines are excellent, but the food is truly great.

After being ignored at the restaurant entrance for some time we called out to a waitress who assured us someone would be over to seat us but no I had to grab another staff who went searching for the hostess. She breezed over and asked if we had a reservation which we didn't so she haughtily and proudly told me she was full till nine; it was six. I can understand they are full but it was the delight with which she contemptuously informed us that we could wait till nine that was unbelievable. She offered to seat us outside but it was raining hard; that was her put down to add insult to injury. The restaurant was so dark they probably couldn't see us standing waiting and since we didn't have a reservation we were obviously unworthy of the Burrowing Owl. The whole place is so over hyped I official declared it a no go zone; no more pain-in-the-bowl for me and my friends. This was not the first time I have been shooed out of that dinner.
