The hotel is beautiful. Breathtaking views (from every room, I think).

For families, especially extended family, I would easily rate this a 5/5. We saw many families there and would love to share it with ours. It's also a great place for anyone looking to do some fishing, kayaking or nature exploration.

For a quiet couples vacation it maybe isn't quite as good. We were getting away, just the two of us, and participated in their Romance Package and it wasn't quite as romantic as we'd hoped. For example, on the romance cruise we weren't able to sit close enough to each other to hold hands. There isn't room service (so no cuddly breakfast in bed).

Don't get me wrong though, it was still an amazing experience -- nature, adventure, great food and good service... just not necessarily "romantic" -- if you're looking for a chance to explore BC's pristine, beautiful nature I definitely recommend. If you're looking for a quiet chance to "reconnect" it might not be the right choice for you.

Oh! And the grounds are pristine!! The gardener(s) on staff should be very proud of everything they've accomplished.

Room Tip: Higher floors, I think, are better (we were on the top floor of three). Some of the foliage (trees...

My wife and I spent three incredible nights last weekend, and from the moment we were greeted off the float plane to the departing wave good bye from the dock, we felt as though our every need was attended to, but without feeling the slightest bit encroached upon. The beauty of the area can be seen in the photos, and we indeed saw as much as possible, including an incredible time with Aaron watching a pod of Orcas, but the highlight of the resort is the service. Everyone anticipates your needs, and does whatever they can to keep you comfortable. We even had the theater to ourselves one night, and they made and delivered popcorn to us! I also want to call out the spa. My wife and I both had 1/2 day spa retreats, and we both finished feeling rejuvenated and refreshed. One of our best experiences ever. Overall just an incredibly, beautiful and relaxing (but yet still somehow activity filled) long weekend. Cant wait to get back!

Sonora Resort is simply gorgeous and exceptional. We took a flight on Kenmore Air out of Lake Washington (near our home in Seattle) and arrived at this amazing location in just over 2 hours. The minute we approached the island we knew Sonora Resort would be a special place. Once we stepped off the plane, the staff was prompt and greeted us with grace and professionalism. The introduction set a tone for our 3 night stay, which left us with the impression that we wouldn't have to worry about a thing - and we didn't! This resort functions exceptionally well and the chef is fantastic! The staff is friendly and ready to assist; however, they respect your visit and avoid becoming the center of attention. The view, the gorgeous grounds, the wildlife, and the overall atmosphere become the center of attention for your stay. The surrounding waterways are mesmerizing, with daily visits by harbor seals and sea lions. The Eco Tour is a must, allowing you to learn more about this pristine environment and the surrounding waterways. The hikes are enjoyable; however, the best views are right off the main deck dining area at the Resort. We enjoyed the mini theater at night and sipping wine in the Conservatory. The game room offers quite a bit for families or couples and the tennis court is beautiful and well maintained. There is also an Archery range and a hike to a large lake with paddle boards and canoes. To sum it up, this property takes care of everything so you don't have to worry! A perfect place to relax and enjoy time with your loved ones. We didn't go salmon fishing, since I am allergic to salmon, but the Grady Whites lined up waiting to take you on a salmon fishing adventure are hard to turn down. The daily catches are filleted on the dock, providing additional entertainment for those who just returned from their fishing trip.

Room Tip: We had the suite in the Arbutus Lodge, which offered a spectacular view and was located close to th...

We did not know what to expect when we arrived but what ever expectations we had, they were surpassed. From the minute we arrived, Sean, Emma and the team were attentive without being in your face. Every member of the team we came across was superb and genuinely happy to be working there and looking after us. The accommodation was excellent, well prepared and each night a personal message. The food was first rate. Clearly this is a place for fishermen but there is lots to keep the non-fishermen occupied too. We travelled up to the glacier and did a zodiac trip. Both expertly led. We travelled with my husband and myself and our 13 year old. It was a perfect 4 days and I wish we had been able to stay longer. It is such a beautiful part of the world and this is a real gem. We look forward to going back.

Sonora is simply amazing, a luxury wilderness retreat tucked away in the Discovery Islands. The staff and guides are simply the best. Everyone went out of their way to make us feel welcome and attend to our needs. The setting on Sonora Island is perfection. We enjoyed fishing, hiking, archery, snorkeling with the salmon, an ecotour, and sea kayaking. The cuisine was expertly prepared and on par with any luxury restaurant in a major city. Everything at the resort, from the accommodations to the equipment, is top notch. While fishing is the main activity at Sonora, there are many other things to occupy your time if you decide to do something else. If you have extra time at the resort hike to Florence Lake or try your hand a archery. Unfortunately for us the fishing has been a bit off for the last couple of weeks. We caught salmon, but not in the numbers or size that we were hoping for. This was not for lack of effort or expertise on part of the guides who were fantastic. (Boats from other resorts were suffering from the same slow bite despite a banner spring season.) My only minor suggestion would be to broaden or vary the food options a little more. After 4 days we were looking for a few more dining options. The restaurant was adept at handling special requests, but we felt like a nag asking for something different. We give Sean, Emma and crew top marks for our fantastic time at Sonora.

We spent last weekend at the spectacular Sonora Resort. I had been a couple of times previously with colleagues, but it was the first time with my wife and two children. I don’t think I can find enough superlatives to describe our experience. The physical setting is spectacular. The view across the rushing tidal waters of Yuculta Rapids across to Stuart Island and the mountains of Bute Inlet is always mesmerising. It is complimented by an endless parade of wildlife feeding in the waters or soaring overhead. Even as a British Columbian accustomed to the beauty of the coastal mountains and waterways, I was consistently awed by Sonora’s surroundings.

While the property and its location are incredible, it is the Sonora staff and their impeccable service that makes Sonora a gem. Attentive, detail-oriented and guest focussed without being stuffy or stilted, they made us all feel truly welcome. From fishing guides, to dining room and activity staff, we encountered consistently friendly and stellar service. It was very clear that their focus was to make each guest’s experience special. They succeeded.

And then there is the meals! The chef has developed an extraordinary menu, much of it local and all of it very fresh, well prepared and beautifully presented and served. All were outstanding.

Our weekend at Sonora was fantastic and passed all too quickly. For anyone visiting this area(and even for those who live close by), Sonora has to be experienced.

What a peaceful place. Very relaxing. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Made to feel very welcome, right from the start. The accommodations were excellent with great views. The room had everything one could want, and more. Very clean and quiet. Nice touches from the housekeeping staff.

I thought I couldn't be more relaxed, until I visited the spa. Nice welcome, and a great massage.

The food was excellent, but the kitchen seemed overworked, even though the resort did not feel busy. Our orders got mixed up more than once. Would have liked a bit more variety on the menu from one night to the next. The menu is small and stays the same, except for the tasting menu which changes nightly. Having said that, we were encouraged to order some courses from the tasting menu and other courses from the regular menu, which did add some variety.

The fishing was great. The guides were knowledgeable. The box lunch on our first day was outstanding, as was the restaurant lunch on the following days. The dockside staff were also helpful with arranging packaging of our fish. Our group left with over 400 lbs of fish!!

Would return in a heartbeat.
