“Alcino in wonderland!! Awesome!!”
Reviewed 16 November 2013

We chose Alcino's Pousada based on TripAdvisor feedback and were NOT disappointed.

Location is close enough to the bus station (5 min walk) and 5 min walk to the central square/plaza area. Alcino (calm and charming) welcomed us. Tired from the bus trip, he carried my suticase up the stairs and said to just take our time. He was in no rush to talk paperwork or payment. The house is beautiful, the atmosphere is so calm and peaceful. It's a very clean environment. A lot of attention has been made to the tiniest details and we continued discovering little things throughout the house every day of our stay. The room had an en suite bathroom and had a 'cottage-like' feel to it.

Breakfast was great! we actually looked forward to it every evening. The variety was endless. Literally 15-20 different options per day. And everyday, it was slightly different. It's a nice opportunity to meet other travelers, and have a delicious meal before heading out on day trips.

We spent three nights there and Alcino's pausada was the perfect resting spot after full days of being out and about walking and swimming and admiring. This is my first Tripadvisor post because I have never felt strongly enough about a place to convince me to write a review of it.
Alcino, changed that!

If you're going to Lencois, head to Alcino's, he'll take good care of you!! :)

I stayed here on my first visit to Chapada and the place didnt disappoint. The place offers everything including colonial charm, proximity to center, clean rooms and best of all, the Breakfast.
During my stay here for 3 days, i experienced a wide variety of breakfast food and snacks that are unique and unforgettable. I stayed in a twin bedroom with bathroom across the hall which was quiet and comfortable. I had a great night sleep after days full of trips and would wake up to the smell of breakfast.

It was late at night when we arrived at Lençois and we didn't book a place to stay. When we walked by Alcino's colonial house we decided to ask for a room. Everything inside is very nice and he even had some cheaper rooms with shared bathrooms (clean all the time)! So that was already perfect for us.
But what a surprise in the morning ... a big table full of food and the food kept on coming. The one dish even more excellent than the next! And explained in Portuguese, French and English what he was serving ... he even managed to name half of the food in the table in Dutch. Moreover, Alcino is a really welcoming host. He might seem a bit distracted but while you are thinking that he might have forgotten or misunderstood your question, he is already informing himself and making sure that he can help you.

Alcino, the man and his pousada, offer many treats-he built the home himself and creates lovely tile which adorns the area and is available for sale. His breakfasts are something to be experienced using simple but amazing recipes from around the world...miniature date tartlets...kibbeh a , crepes, eggs, baked bananas, fresh tropical fruit- the menu changes daily and is a feast for the eyes and mouth.
The rooms are clean, comfortable and well appointed with collectibales .
The grounds are filled with his art and make for an interesting and refreshing stay in Lencios...hated to leave!

It is nice to be in a charming place and feel at home at the same time. It is how you feel at Alcino's. The rooms are spacious and wonderful, the house is nicely decorated, calm and with a superb courtyard. Alcino is a perfect host and all the people working there are extremely welcoming. By far, the best breakfast we have had in Brazil and perhaps in our lives. It would not be exaggerated to say that it is of Michelin star standards. Ask for Rony, Alcino's friend, who is a fantastic guide, who knows the area, the fauna and flora extremely well, speaks several languages fluently (including French and English) and has a great sense of humour. He can take you on a private tour (much more interesting and less touristy that the numerous offers you will find in town) perfectly tailored your needs and wishes (from hardcore 3 day treks to more gentle walks in amazing settings with swimming and great cave explorations).

We were delighted with our visit to Lencois. The pousada was gorgeous, and the breakfast was exquisite--superbly prepared tastes of Bahian cuisine. As a family of five we stayed in the cottage away from the main house. Alcino designed the cottage with antique doors as well as modern touches. Plenty of room for sleeping for 5 and a private living room and kitchen. The main house is also beautiful. You eat breakfast family-syle outdoors under an arcade along the interior courtyard next to Alcino's atelier and show room. The staff is very helpful and pleasant. We did two hikes with Zen Tur. Our teenagers loved the exercise. The town is very nearby and fun to explore. Tables are placed in the streets at dinnertime, so the town has a vibrant night scene, even in the off-season.

Room Tip: great variety of choices--shared or private bathrooms; cottage option for a family

If you come to the wonderful and peaceful village of Lencois, Alcino's is the ideal place to stay- The location is perfect, near to the centre yet quiet and it is reasonably priced. Our bedroom looked out onto the garden and was perfectly adequate. The piece de resistance at Alcino's is the gastronomic breakfast that he supervises with creativity and justified pride. The breakfast is famous throughout the area and attracts a diverse crowd of locals, friends and tourists. It is the place to meet and become befriended by the inhabitants of Lencois. And if you need a guide to help you discover the wonderful cascades in the area, Alcino will put you in touch with Rony and soon you will know everybody in the village!.
