As a regular, i never cease to be grateful that we have a pop up Sat market in Richmond that is awesome! It is so in tune with a sense of community in Richmond, and it really is so lovely to buy your fruit, vege, fish, deli, nuts, bakery stuff from people who really care about delivering great product for their regulars. As you enter the market from Bridge Rd side the first stand on the right hand side say hi to Jo & Ross at the nut, sweet and deli stand. Ross remembers all his regulars and is a stalwart at Gleadell St, Jo (his partner) has added deli products (great cheese, cured meats, dips etc) which has added great variety and so much better quality and value than at supermarket deli's. But be careful asking Jo what is good today, as she always has something new and it's all great stuff at great prices, so make sure you bring some extra $$.
Further down on the right hand side there's a bakery and sweet stand, great breaky treats are served up on the BBQ, just follow your nose. Helen and Toi are serving amazing sweets and breads-the best sourdough selection ever, and turkish bread varieties our the wazoo. We miss Naz but he's there in spirit.
Say hi to Lionel on the left hand side in the Fish truck, he's shucking fresh oysters and filleting your fish whilst you wait, so old school, so awesome. If it's not fresh Lionel doesn't get it so be assured it's all good, and awesome value.
You can't miss Bruno (and Julie and his girls) at the Red Hill Apple stand next to Lionel on the left hand side, Bruno has been here for ever and he grows, picks and sells his apples, rhubarb, cherries (when in season) and they are without doubt the best apples you will ever taste, no chemicals and when possible, no refrigeration, straight off the tree, your own orchardist in Richmond!! I've never tasted a Golden Delicious with sweetness and crunch like Bruno's GD, or a granny smith that is crunchy and sweet, or apples late picked with the honey core, you just don't get these unless they're straight off the tree. At $3.50/kg, you'll never be able to go back to supermarket apples, Bruno will ruin you for life, and you'll revel in the discovery of freshly picked apples.
Opp Bruno on the right hand side if you're coming up from Bridge Rd about in the middle of the market you can't go past Tony and Anna selling some of the best product in the market, a little more expensive, but always great quality and excellent variety of fruit and vege. Anna's been making preserves which are great value and she'll be able to tell you exactly what's in them, old school preserves jams, chutneys and great variety and you don't have to make them yourself. Tony always has a great variety of mushrooms too and hard to find herbs etc. He's the big guy usually in a beenie, don't fear he is a gentle giant.
Such an awesome aspect of Richmond, it pops up only on Sat morning until 1pm so get in quick and support they traders who bring the foodie delights to us in Richmond.
