While living in luxurious accommodations, you are surrounded by the fascinating history of the British Battles of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift. Their guides brought history to life in these magnificent surroundings. You may have seen the movie ZULU starring Michael Caine. This is where it all happened and you are immersed in the spirit of the era. The staff literally spoil you and they cater to your every need. Excellent cuisine. Beautiful grounds with wonderful vistas.

Room Tip: All cottages are excellent.

We arrived into the battle field area with no reservations of knowledge of lodging about dinner time after the sun had set. The manager was receptive to our situation and gave us passage to their "less expensive" rooms down the road. When the parcel of keys would not open the door, he said we could stay at the lodge for same price! Now, he had no need to do that other than we were traveling in such a manner that it worked out good for all of us. The next day my travel partner was engaged with the expert talking about the battlefield and the manager took me on a special tour of the area including a visit to an orphanage and school. Later he made sure we had some sort of meal as to find something in the small non-commercial area would have been a chore. Needless to say the manager and his assistant made the stay there extraordinary and we were very thankful. I want to give a warm salute to them now even though my 137 journey has not allowed me to do this prior and I hope he hasn't forgotten us and the astrology lesson he gave us on the fabulous deck so we could view, for the first time, the Milky Way.

We stayed at the lodge as part of a 3 week holiday around South Africa. The lodge is very comfortable and unique. It fits unobtrusively into the mountain side with majestic views of the surrounding plains and hills.

I have long been interested in the Anglo-Zulu wars although my wife had no real interest. We elected for the Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift tours, led by Rob Gerrard. Rob's insight and real passion brought a history lesson to life leaving us both awe-inspired and moved.

The food and service were excellent and the location incredible. The area surrounded by real Zulu villages was a revelation, the people were so friendly always with a smile and a wave. I know it's not recommended but we gave a lift to an elderly lady who spoke no English and we got on just fine.

Room Tip: All rooms face out over the plains and mountains, you can't go wrong

My wife and I visited the Lodge in June 2014 as part of our honeymoon trip. Immediately upon arrival we felt very welcome and it didn’t take long to settle into the hotel environment and immediately felt extremely comfortable in the space. The staff at the hotel were all very friendly and helpful at every turn. RJ (manager at the time) did an excellent job in ensuring we always had everything we needed. The food and wine was always excellent. We would also highly recommend a talk/tour of the battlefields by Mr Gerrard. Very Insightful.
The hotel itself is set in an amazing location on the cliff tops which offers tremendous views and a real feeling of peace. The main deck of the hotel shares the same views as the bedrooms on the deck below. We were in room No. 1. A round room beautifully decorated in a typically rustic South African feel. We were originally only supposed to stay 3 nights…..but it was so good we didn’t want to leave and booked an extra night. I’d go back tomorrow if I could. Excellent!!

Our company corporate function was held at the lodge and the relaxed atmosphere, with panoramic views of the battlefields, set the tone for a great weekend. Food was excellent and friendly staff made us feel very welcome. Battlefield tours by Rob were a highlight!

We stayed here for 2 nights, our room number 1 was lovely, very cosy and with superb views over the battlefield.
Lovely fire in the bar every evening and the food was excellent and served with a smile, 3 meals a day was really too many calories for us but who could resist?
We did the battlefield tours of both Isandlwana and Rorkes drift with Rob Gerrard who was amazing, he really enables you to relive the situation and paints the scene for you so well, we were very fortunate to have him as a guide.
Do chose this lodge if you are planning to visit this part of KZN.

Room Tip: All rooms look out over the battlefield, 1 and 12 are slightly bigger.

What an amazing setting.....the view over the Battlefield is awe inspiring. The lodge nestles into the surrounding as if it had been there forever........our room 12 was was exceedingly comfortable - with necessary hot water bottles at night. Superb bathroom. The views were stunning and lying in bed a beautiful panorama was spread out in the valley below. Food was really good and tasty. Staff excellent and helpful. Excellent place to stay for the Battlefield or just to get away from it all.

Room Tip: Our room was at the end ....the bathroom was a semi circle with a vaulted room! Views amazing.
