“Good but not upto the mark”
Reviewed 19 November 2013

We stayed here for a week this month. As its new addition to Club Mahindra resorts, difference was easily visible.
Few good points first:
1) Property is really nice, placed on beautiful location
2) You can feel nature's touch in resort itself
3) Service was really good & fast
4) Programs arranged for guest were nice

Points of improvement:
1) Though we took 1BR, it was not up to the mark with other Mahindra Resorts 1BR
2) Kitchenette only utensils available were - Coffee Mug & Microwave. Plus microwave was not working properly
3) Stains of rain & dust was visible on wall paint (which is rare in Mahindra Resorts)
4) For Dinner once we tried ala-carte, though taste was really good but service was really very slow. They took 1 hour to serve us one starter & one curry in main course.

Overall, experience was nice, it could have be better.

Sherwood resort, i guess its almost one year or more now since the property has been taken over by club mahindra holidays. Sad to see that despite of a year passing, the property has not been maintained well. The property has amazing views and is spread vast across. Mahabaleshwar is a frequent visit point for people from bombay and pune. Keeping in mind the heavy traffic of tourist club mahindra should have expedited the maintenance work. DIdnt find the property well administered, managed and maintained. A jewel in wrong hands it seems as on date.. However, this is my personal experience. It may vary...

I understand the property is very old and blessed with fantastic view of the valley from some of the rooms.I stayed in room no 305 and the view from that room and the rooms adjoining on both sides is wonderful.I had stayed in this property last year also but than I would have rated it average, like many others in Mahableshwar .Some of the other rooms are also being renovated by the new management and it will change the entire look of the property.Give it couple of years and if you can afford the rates of this Club do visit it.
Food at all Club Mahindra Resorts is unaffordable for middle class, which includes me.So I only read the Menu.About 3.5 k m away from the main Bazaar,it retains the real charm of M'war as I have known for 60 years.

Room Tip: look for the view.

We went in the month of October as a couple. Great location very nice view.

The Resort is a very good property. The welcome was good. We were kept waiting for a very little time. We got options of rooms.

Exceptional customer service. People kept asking us what we want, what we want to do, do we want to go someplace, please join us for the evening celebration, do you want tea/coffee, etc. I dont even remember being asked so many questions even in a Taj property! Kudos to Club Mahindra.

Rooms are not that great. Due to the second highest rainfall in India the walls are all patchy and wet. We were told it is very difficult and expensive to maintain the walls unless it is painted every year or so. Only expensive resorts are maintained that way in Mahabaleshwar. In fact in the rainy months many resorts are closed with tarpaulin sheets covering the entire buildings so that the rain doesn't damage.

No network connectivity except near the pool side. No wifi available in room. Wifi which is mediocre and charged is only available in the reception lobby and swimming pool area.

Many things to do in the resort. Please note, Kates Point, Echo Point, Needle Hole are all the same and next to one another. Dont get carried away. Old Mahabaleshwar, Panchagange temple and Lord Shiva temple are all the same and next to one another. Strawberry garden is one small tiny patch of land where they grow them. Dont miss Mapro garden. Worth visiting.

Mahindra's mahabaleshwar property is quiet huge but it is not so well connected. So if you have your own vehicle it is a BIG advantage else you will have to rely on cabs which come after 30mins. There is no room service in the resort ...like really!! the room we got was quite nice very spacious.
They dont was microwave in all rooms, since we were travelling with a baby they got one arranged for us.The view from the pool deck is breathtaking
The reception staff are not as warm and helping as we would expect. But overall its a one time go

Room Tip: Go for the room around the reception area they are bigger , cleaner and closer to restaurant , pool...

We planned this holiday to this hill-station resort commencing with the mid-term vacation of our kids and had an enjoyable time. Contrary to expectations the weather was generally warm and dry, with the occasional downpour late evening. As regards the resort,

Positives:
Good food(young and handsome chefs as well :-), entertaining fun zone, decent mini library(plenty of free comics), swimming pool, trampoline, a nice little campus for the kids to run around at play and warm and courteous front desk and housekeeping staff.
The rooms/kitchenette is well stocked with a mini fridge, microwave provided on request, a heater, clothes rail etc. and comes with a nice balcony to sit-out and enjoy your tea and newspaper at leisure.

Improvement areas:
The resort is under renovation, but the staff try their best to limit the works and the noise to those times of the day when we are out sight-seeing. The upstairs cellar room for kids is a bit
hazardous with large gaps beside the stairs, a modest panel of wood rails overlooking the living room below. The stairs without a full/firm handrail is quite insecure for small kids. Some of the supervisory staff can be a bit quirky, lacking in grooming & competency. it might be a good idea to carry sufficient cash, since the billing systems and phones/internet network are frequently dysfunctional at the resort.

Travel and Sightseeing: We arrived at Pune Railway station and took a prepaid taxi(blue-black cabs) to reach the resort in 3-4 hrs. The inhouse travel desk services(cash only) are cordial but pricey and one of the drivers attributed it to "unofficial royalties" they had to pay for "business" provided to them by CM. Local taxi services (http://www.mshwartaxi.com) available within walking distance(3 kms) are aplenty and available at a discount of 20-30%. Places to visit include a dozen odd viewpoints, some overlooking the Krishna & Gayathri rivers, several waterfalls, horse/tonga-ride on the tableland, boating on the Venna lake, Panchganga and other temples, strawberry farms(Nov-Feb only), shopping for spices and chikkis etc. At viewpoints, watch out for monkeys that try to snatch bunches of baby carrot/sweetcorn, from unsuspecting tourists :-) Most of these spots in Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar can be seen in a single day. Sivaji's Pratapgadh Fort is another worthy attraction. Tapola/Mini Kashmir is non-existent. Note that a toll/tax is payable by tourists visiting Mahabaleshwar/Panchgani each valid for 7 days.
Our 22-hr return journey from Pune to Bangalore by 1st AC on Udyan Express with a private compartment(4 berths) all to ourselves was quite literally the icing/cherry on the cake. Overall a happy holiday with some new ideas for the future.

Room Tip: 1st floor rooms facing the pool / hillside more bright and airy.

The location is good- away from town, yet not too far off. It has open spaces, a forest cover, lovely greenery view. Small but clean pool, spacious rooms, clean bathrooms and above all what makes it relly awsome is the warmth of the staff. Very courteous and caring. We are members of two holiday clubs , where we have paid much much more as memberships and the maintaince per year is much more too. But we have such bitter experiences with both. This was the first time we stayed in a club Mahindra resort as dependents of our daughter who is a member. I must say, right from booking to stay the experience was very nice and my faith in timeshare has been restored. We are now visiting Pondicherry and staying at another Club Mahindra property and I hope the experience will be as good.
The only thing is that the restaurant was far too expensive- so we had our meals outside. Since we had a car and the resort was not really far off- it was feasible. I cannnot comment on the quality of food but the buffets are too heavy to have everyday, so if some simple cheaper meals could be provided, more people would dine in the resort. Anyway, this is a personal choice. The resort is still under renovation so it will improve as time goes by- but we had a super time and loved it.

Room Tip: Studio apartments are advertised as - sleep 3 but 4 people can be very comfortable. The extra bed is...
