“Place that made Mahabaleshwar a 'not so bad place'”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

Our trip to Mahabaleshwar was aimed at a weekend away from the hustles and bustles of Mumbai. Since apparently we chose to visit during the peak season period, the hotels out there were charging ridiculous rates for very average rooms. Thats when we stumbled upon Hotel Dina. At first, we were put off by the name(no offence) and the front view of the hotel, but upon checking out the place(rooms and facilities), we were quite pleased the way they had maintained this apparently 100 year old premise. Check in was smooth and the rooms were fairly large enough. We were 4 of us and wanted to have a big room for ourselves, and bingo we got exactly that at Hotel Dina. The rooms had nothing like a hotel feel to it, rather you would feel more at home here.. The high wooden ceiling with the chill of the night, this place you wouldn't really need an air conditioner.
The staff were helpful, and thankfully they stuck at just being that(at times you get a bit irritated if they over extend their courtesy, especially when u r looking for a peaceful time there.) They have a very nice garden which has been well maintained and its a perfect place if you would really want to laze around.
To sum it up, I would highly recommend this place in Mahabaleshwar where there are 100's of hotels, but hardly a handful where you would feel satisfied for the money you end up paying.
A word to the Management, you could definitely market this place better and I am sure you could improve the already good business you have been carrying on for the last century.
Great work.

Dina has existed forever and ever - and is a great place to holiday with family or friends.
The rooms are always impeccably neat and clean, the meals are wholesome and delicious but the piece de resistance is the view......... breathtaking.
Even with the onslaught of concrete-ization & commercialization along the Venna Lake - Dina provides the guest that much coveted old world charm.

True to a Parsi family run establishment - clean, homely, with quite a few retro charms and a warm cheerful owner. And a 100+ yrs old establishment to boot. Its old world with modern amenities - the bathroom was luxuriously large. We quite liked the catering - follows a daily menu with quite a few options, some items are not the usual run-off the mill, and there is 70s rock playing from the speakers! Dina has retained its staff for years, the are old classic butlers - attentive to what you want.

If you are one for architecture the main Dina building is quite interesting - a red laterite stone structure with wooden floors and staircases.

A chat with Homruz - he is the third generation (I forget, perhaps the fourth!) owner - is a great way to learn the history of Parsis in Mahabaleshwar. They were the early settlers along with the Brits. Homruz's wife makes some fantastic strawberry jam, available for purchase. Don't miss picking up a bottle or two.

Room Tip: Take the first floor rooms, specially the one at the end of the passage on the left after to mount t...

Since we stayed at Dina Hotel mid-week, we were lucky to have the place largely to ourselves. We did meet some very friendly "regulars" ( a group of senior folks from Mumbai). They checked in on our last day there.

The hotel building is charming, has nice views, specially of the gardens and distant hills. The entrance foyer and the verandah (ground-floor) have an old-world charm. The rooms are large, spacious, the renovated (?) bathrooms are also well done up.

The USP of this place was the excellent food. What a spread and variety of starters/appetisers, main course and desserts. And all so well-made. Loved our meals here and hogged like there was no tomorrow.

The staff is courteous and helpful.
I needed to sterilise bottles for my 3-month old baby and my not yet 3 month old nephew. They helped us with that twice a day!

Great option to stay in at Mahabaleshwar.

Went for a three day weekend at the Dina Hotel in Mahabaleshwar. The hotel really scores on the view & easily is one of the best properties as far as the view from the hotel goes. The property seems to have been recently refurbished, & the rooms / bathrooms were rally spacious, clean & comfortable. The staff too is very courteous & helpful, though this is not a 24x7 service hotel, & they have their timings. The one drawback was the food, which was a mixed bag. While the chef served some good authentic Parsi dishes, the food for most parts was very average. The set menu leaves little for choice, & this essentially is a meat lovers hotel. Overall a good getaway for a weekend, but you might want to eat out, despite the fact that the package is all meals included.

the owners personally look into to day today affairs of the hotel, and trust me it makes a lot of difference. it is the best lake view property in mahableshwar. the food is simply awsome. it can never hurt your stomach..very very healthy.
