I found out about TRACC in a facebook group called Girls that Scuba and got a lot a great recommendations about the project. I decided to do the 4 months A-Level Marine Science Course and all of my expectations were met! Best 4 months of my life, no doubt. We had an amazing teacher and hand-on activities every week, the course had a good structure and we even did a field trip. Learned so much about marine science and reef restauration. Being a volunteer/student funded project, of course there are challenges, but the directors are great and commited to improve the project wherever is possible.
The island is beautiful, the local staff are lovely, the instructor and dms are awesome and its up to you to party or chill in your free time. Loads of great diving and small creatures to get obsessed with. Forever gratefull for everyone I met in my time at TRACC.
If your still in doubt, GOOOOO!!!!

I've had an amazing time at TRACC doing the marine science A level course, where the place felt like a second home and I met some of the best people. The classes where very interesting and engaging with our teacher Dr Catherine Jadot guiding us through the course and also providing us with hands on experience in field work and the natural world.

I could write a massive essay here but I’m going to keep this short and sweet...I came to Pom Pom island with my childhood best friend , we traded travelling for pursuing our dive master course and to delve into the world of marine conservation. we decided to give something back to the sea and help with a great cause that Tracc does so well in contributing towards. We helped build artificial bottle reefs for the inhabitants of the sea. We then helped put the structures onto the reef and all the while learning to become dive masters. We were privileged to be taken under the wing of our amazing instructor stephany child ! all the while living on an island in a tent with one big happy family, and for me it was a life changing experience. I met people at Pom Pom who will be my friends for life, and will be one of the most memorable experiences of my time.

Throughly enjoyed it and owe it all to Tracc for accommodating me, amazing people, amazing instruction, amazing experience!

I would recommend that schools introduce this into there curriculum but I don’t have that kind of power so I’m just going to advise if your a good person and want to do more then just travel and meet more good people whilst giving something back to sea then I suggest you sign your self up to Tracc and spend at least a month there.

kind regards to all the staff and people I met there during my stay!

Many thanks

Aaron Ryan

Apologies for the essay haha

Was at TRACC for 4 weeks in Dec 2017 and had the most meaningful vacation ever. I had a blast of a time learning loads about marine life and replanting corals. The island is stunning and once you enter the water, the devastation of bomb fishing is immediately apparent.

Work dives range from soft/ hard coral collection/ plant, Crown of Thorns removal, reef clean-up, algae removal, bottle reef planting, and so on. They also find time to fit in fun dives such as fish/ invert identification as well as dives to awesome nearby islands and sites. You are also free to go on as many dives as you possibly can - just grab a tank and a buddy and you're on!

The recovery of the reef is amazing as can be seen by the variety and numbers of fishes and creatures that inhabit the man-made structures and planted corals. Juveniles can be seen too - a sure sign that the population is reproducing!

Take the chance to also upgrade yourself with further PADI courses taught by TRACC's instructors. In the duration I was there, there was more than sufficient time for my instructor to teach us the skills and run us through the multiple scenarios for the Rescue Diver course, much more than I would have had with any dive centre back at home.

Try to stay at least 2 weeks or more to fully experience what TRACC has to offer. If you would like to go during the low seasons, contact TRACC to check on their bookings before confirming your trip. There is no more meaningful vacation than to help corals regrow, clock dives at great dive sites, upgrade your dive certification, and meet beautiful like-minded people all at once!
