we wanted to spend a couple of days in Uvita and bring our puppy with us, La Cacatua Lodge was the only place in the area that allowed us to make this happen.
The place is really beautiful, the rooms are cozy, the green areas are very spacious and the attention of managers is very good, definitely a place to recommend.
A couple of important things to consider are the road to get to the place is not in good condition a 4x4 car is a must especially during the raining season, and the place has no AC, the days and nights can be extremely hot .

The lodging is top notch in quality. Very nice comfy beds and pillows, solft towels and a superb bathroom, all very well decorated, located on a hillside. The lodges all have their own path to them, so very private. On top of that they come with a small fridge that is very useful for cooling your drinks for a trip or when travelling through.

The owners are really helpful and seem to be ready to help you 24/7, not only for planning trips, but also for general advise about other places in Costa Rica or even to do your laundry for a very modest fee.

Breakfast is very good (not included in price) and if you want they will also cook you dinner (order in advance), which is also fine. If you prefer dining somewhere else, thats no problem either, lots of restaurants in the area. The view from the dining place is very nice as well.

The road to the lodge is a dirt road. The road is in fine condition, though is steep in some areas. A 4wd is not required though. If you are afraid of dirt roads, than this might not be the place for you. On the other hand, what are you doing in Costa Rica anyways?

I can recommend this place without a doubt. You won't be dissapointed.

Uvita is amazing! My girfriends and I stayed at La Cacatua for 3 nights. It was perfect! The rooms were comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated and VERY reasonably piced. Peter and Maria were excellent hosts and fun to talk to. They had great advise as to where to go for meals and activities. We went paddle surfing, whale and dolphin watching with Bahia Adventures, (no whales) but we tried. We went out to the Roadhouse 169 2 nights...great place for dinner and drinks and music. You will need a car for sure, but the road is not bad once you get used to it.

It took us a long time to find this place as the signage is minimal. It's up a long dirt road which was a bit scary at night in our 2-wheel drive car.

The owners are friendly, and grounds are pretty. The room itself was just ok. It was attractive enough, but smelled of mildew and had no AC. It's also not close to anything. Maybe in a 4-WD car it would be easier to make it a base for excursions, but with our car, it wasn't practical.

Stayed here in a studio for 2 nights on our honeymoon. Peter and Marja were EXCELLENT hosts catering to our every need.

Rooms were extremely clean, and modern, and a great value for the $. Only drawback was there was no ac, and room can become a little stuffy. There are ceiling fans that do make things a little cooler. We stayed in the lowest studio(and furthest away from the common area), and the Jungle/mountain view from our patio was amazing. A very good place to unwind at night and listen to the sounds.

We decided to pay for breakfast which was made up of various tropical fruits, juices, spreads and toast. I also recommend adding 2 eggs to jump start your day. (see pic #1)

**Do note that the lodge is located approx 10 minutes up a rather steep and bumpy road, so 4x4 is a must.**

Would highly recommend this place for couples and or people looking for general peace and quiet. We cannot wait to go back!

Room Tip: All studio rooms are spread out over a few acres, so there is great privacy no matter where you stay...
