We made the reservation to stay at La Cacatua months in advance, but it seems we got put in the worst possible room. The first 3 nights we succeeded in switching to a larger one with a full kitchenette, although not very functional because the lights are extremely dim and you can't see what you're doing. That stay was ok. Then we got moved to our "assigned room", without a kitchenette. There was no hot water in the shower in that room. The owner said he'd changed the water heater, but still no hot water. We had to traipse down to a different room to shower. Very disappointing experience. And not cheap. Breakfast isn't included, the road to La Cacatua is horrible (make sure you rent a 4x4 is you decide to stay there!), and smoking is allowed on the premises, although only outside, but the rooms are very close, so the smoke comes right in the next door window! We wish we'd stayed elsewhere.

Room Tip: Book only the studio. The other rooms are too basic for the price.

La Cacatua has lovely grounds, and our cabina had a kitchenette which was v handy. However there's a basic design problem: both our cabina and our friend's were mildewy. I think this is because the main window is actually the patio door, which is unscreened, so the place never airs out (and has no AC). Good location 10 mins from main road, above Uvita, which is a nice area generally.

Easy to reach from Uvita (approx. 10 driving minutes to town). Very nice property with a couple of double-bungalows in the garden, that offer all the basics you need. It's great to sit on the terrace and just watch the birds in the jungle and listen to the sounds of nature. Peter and Marja give you all the advise and information you need and help you book excursions if you want. We booked a mangrove tour down in Sierpe which was very good. Breakfast is good, sometimes they offer dinner as well. Also there are a couple of dinner options down in Uvita. (we definitely recommend the Spanish restaurant "El Sabor Espanol"!!!) And the beaches of Marino Ballena are just stunning! Peter will tell you more...

We live in Heredia and went for the “festival de Ballenas” to Uvita.
We choose for this Lodge because of all the good reviews. The lodge is located in the jungle but fortunately not too far away from the beaches.
It is really a special place. Our room was located in a beautiful garden with an amazing mountain view. We saw a lot of Toucans. The room was clean and we had our own mini fridge, so we had nice cold beer! We also liked the bathroom with the beautiful painted sink.
The hosts were friendly and available when you need them, and they were happy to show us their large Cockatoo Carolina. A beautiful white bird we never saw before.
We did the trip in the national park and we saw a family of huge wales, fantastic! This is really an awesome place to stay if you want to go away for the weekend or a holiday!

On our way to Corcovado we stayed at La Cacatua Lodge. It was absolutely the best place where we stayed on our trip in Costa Rica, thanks to Tripadvisor.
At the day of arrival the owners welcomed us with a nice free drink of the house. The hotel has nice cabins with beautiful decorated and clean rooms. There is a large garden and a nice pool. They serve you a great breakfast, not included but the prices are very reasonable for all the quality you get. Peter and Marja are very friendly hosts and Peter gave us many tips about the surrounding and things to do. Go and see for yourself! Peter and Marja we will come back!!

I went for a couple nights to this nicely located place up the hills of Uvita and you can bet it was a good choice. Marja and Peter both made it fell like home and waited for our arrival awake late, which was very nice from them. Places are just fine, clean and basic but cozy and nicely decorated. Breakfast was served with care and attention and was plentiful. You can see the wilderness of the forest and the wildlife from your little hutt and this is a very nice place to plan a romantic weekend. Price was awesome for the place they offer.Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Bring a flashlight, repelent and snacks...
