“"Forget about time" taken too literally ”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014 via mobile

As the title suggests, the signage in the restaurant tells one to "forget about time", which in our case would have been most helpful due to the long wait for our food. However, this was the only real criticism from our visit, as the waitress was very polite and diligent and the food was of a consistently high standard. The vegetable platter was excellent with it's selection of cheeses, grilled vegetables and pâté; whilst the shrimp risotto was also very flavoursome. All in all, it was a great experience accompanied with breathtaking views of the ocean and a wonderful authentic atmosphere.

P.S. Book your table to ensure you have the pleasure of dining at this establishment as it is relatively busy.

“Beautiful waterfront location, fresh food worth the wait”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2014

We enjoyed our dinner at this lovely waterfront restaurant, perfectly placed just a few doors down from our holiday apartment. It was late May so we were one of only 3 tables, but it was still a relatively long wait for food - partially I think because things are so freshly cooked - we saw the chef getting mussels from a bag stored off the little pier in the sea, and collecting fresh herbs from the back garden. The food was delicious - garlicky sailor potatoes and the fish stew were particularly nice, as was the dalmation beef. The tomatoey fish speciality (cant remember the name) was tasty but had quite a lot of bones to pick through.
The wait didn't really matter as the location was so pretty, and the children enjoyed playing on the water front whilst waiting.
The waitress originally seemed a little stand offish but actually was very helpful and looked after us well.
We walked past later in the week and they had a couple of candle-lit tables out on the promenade itself which looked very inviting.

“Don't come here in a hurry”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 September 2013

Karako is likely the last restaurant on the quiet Orebic seafront path. It was recommended by the front desk staff at Hotel Indijin. We were immediately drawn in by the open hearth and warm ambience. It is like taking a step back in time to a Croatian grandmother's house. having discovered the hard to find Croatian Grk wine, we were excited when our (somewhat surly) waitress told us they had just two glasses left and would gladly save for us. Our biggest mistake that evening was telling the one and only waitress that we weren't quite ready to order. We were then passed over until last. There was just one cook, and also one bus boy so it was a slow dinner. We did very much enjoy our meal and would definitely recommend. I believe they accept reservations and would recommend requesting a table by the fire.

“As the sign says 'Forget about time'”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 September 2013

The sign means what it says. Eating here is anything but fast food and is well, very well worth the wait. There is a lot of care taken both in preparation and cooking.

Every day this establishment bakes its own bread - it has to be tasted. Mussels are stored in the Adriatic and are as fresh as fresh can be. Being an avid BBQ'er I learned a lot watching the Chef prepare his cooking area and then appreciated the patience with which he cooked bot fish and meat.

In the area, it is well worth making a reservation to this eating experience, as it can be busy.

This restaurant is a total experience an has to be the very best in the area. Prices are very reasonable and if the fabulous Croatian wines are well priced and served.

A must visit and eat!

“You who enter forget about time”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 September 2013

"You who enter forget about time" says a notice by the entrance, a warning to be taken seriously, given our 30 minute wait to have an order taken, or worse an offer of anything to drink. This was our second visit. On the first, while it took about 45 minutes to be served after ordering, at least we had some wine in front of us and we had the entertainment of watching the skillful young chef at the grill. The only fish on offer was sea bass, presumably farmed, but it was very fresh and beautifully cooked (hence our return). We opted for "sailor's potatoes"as a side but this was rather watery mash, with herbs.
On our second visit, on a less busy weekday evening, we got to the stage of realising that we had become so anmoyed by being ignored for so long, that we were unlikely to enjoy the meal if we could ever order it and left, noticing that another couple reached the same conclusion and also went elsewhere.
