“Great location,but...............”
Reviewed 24 June 2013

We stayed at the Salling Sund Færgekro for two nights. We wanted to explore the beautiful islands of Mors and Fur,using the kro as our base.Good things first: the kro is at a beautiful location right down to the Limfjord, with woods all around, and a beautifully maintained garden in front. Couldn't be better. We had reserved 2 nights, arrived at reception about 5pm,not a person in sight,we rang the bell several times...nothing.Finally we heard some noise in the kitchen, went in,a man working there didn't return our hello, went to reception w.us,said:Name?, when told he handed us a key,not a word , not a welcome or explanation of where the room was located. We found it in the motel style annex, made of reinforced concrete. The room was small and smelled very musty, the bath room even more so.We tried to open a window,it was stuck, but the balcony door could be opened. The furniture had seen better days, the carpet was worn, the bed was uncomfortable, maybe old matress. The whole upkeep and possible renovation of some parts seemed to have been neglected. It did not match the description and photos in the brochure where it is mentioned that the inn has been recently restored and lives up to "the highest require" and displays 4 stars.Breakfast, included in the room price, was served in the main building in form of a very ordinary buffet,"served" is actually the wrong word,we never saw any staff those two mornings, there was "pre-made" coffee in thermos pots on every table. To sum things up: the inn was a disappointment, but the islands are so beautiful and make for an unforgettable visit.

Revisited Sallingsund Færgekro after some years
The location is still good - peacefully situated near Limfjorden in a quiet area (just a little bit of noise from the traffic at the bridge)
Conveniently near the Jespershus flowerpark and Nykøbing town.
The rooms are motel style, and now needs renovation. Bathrooms small and a bit smelly, same goes for old carpet in bedroom. The nice thing, though, is an outdoor sitting area in front of each room. Nice garden, and outdoor tables at the restaurant
We had a weekend package includng a 4 course dinner, which we didn`t really find great value. The food was good, but not outstanding. The staff seemed a bit stressed because there was some sort of event with many guests. This also made serving very slow - starters arrived after an hour, and dessert after more than 2,5 hours . We have had better meals there.
Be aware of the hefty credit card fees - 2,5 % surcharge for Diners is ridiculous, abit less for Visa and Diners

We stayed here for 3 nights, not in the main hotel, but in one of the cabins. These are great, but we be very cramped if you were to try and sleep 6 as the website suggests. They would be be great for a family with small children.

None the less, the cabins have a great view across the fjord and good amenities.

We were here for a friends wedding and the service was very good.

The restaurant services excellent a la carte food at reasonable Danish prices.

The local town is 5 minutes drive away where you can get anything you need, especially if self catering.

My wife is half Danish and we have stayed in this hotel many times over the past sixteen years - and sadly, have watched it decline badly. Last year (2010) we stayed in one of the suites in the main house and were shocked by the poor state of the room. Horrible staining around the base of the loo, uncleaned shower, poorly fitted electrical outlets, non-functioning minibar, trailing electrical flexes - the list goes on and on (and yes, we did take pictures). On top of this, for whatever reason, the room was not cleaned during our two-day visit - nor any of the glasses, towels etc tidied away.
I am not a habitual complainer - and this is the first time I've been moved to comment online on a hotel - but scroll forward one year to May 2011....we were back on Mors, and staying this time in the annexe. Somebody had obviously made an attempt to clean up, but the room still smelt musty, the bed covers and curtains almost old friends from an earlier part of my life, the cheap uncomfortable beds, horrible softish plastic toilet seat, unbelievably cheap and nasty tea-making unit...they were all present and correct, making the whole in-room expierence a dismal one.
I might have been inclined to ignore all this once again - because we love Mors and its people - if it were not for the fact that the cast concrete walkways linking the upper floors on the annexe building were quite literally falling in. Two men were lashing up an emergency fix involving jamming baulks of timber and ply to support the structures from beneath. As all this was going on, guests (ie. us) were walking overhead on ply covers that felt dangerously flexible. The icing on the cake was one poor woman guest who opened her door, toothbrush in hand, as she was actually in the process of cleaning her teeth - to try to find out the source of the heavy drillilng and banging going on right beneath her foom at 08.15.
The trouble is, this was not an emergency - the deterioration of the concrete structures had quite obviously been going on for a considerable period of time. I was astonished that the hotel proprietors felt it appropriate to allow people to continue to book into the annexe and pay full charge for the privilege while all this was going on.
It all became clear though, when we went to reception to check out a day early. No enquiry as to why we were leaving early. No enquiry as to whether we'd enjoyed our stay. In fact, not a word was spoken. And the answer to all this ? Complacency. There's not much in terms of competition to the Sallingsund Faegekro in the area, and they know this. Standards have been allowed to fall - and that's sad.
I would advise anyone contemplating booking this hotel to think very carefully first.

Room Tip: Your money, your gamble.

This hotel is not in Nykobing (Falster) als tripadvisor.com states, but in Nykobing (Mors).

As its name suggests, the hotel is some kilometers out of town, at the place of the former Sallingsund ferry crossing. The guest rooms are in a separate, motel-type building. Probably due to language problmes, we were assigned a smoking room (with a very ugly smell in it). When we tried to exchange the room, the receptionist lost completely her friendlyness. The rooms were OK for the price paid.

The restaurant is the only one for kilometres around. The meals are pretty expensive, but good. The only drawback: The waitress (the same person as at the reception, but now very friendly again) convinced the foreign guests (not only us) to try a lokal beer which was good but not worth the 89 DKK (more than 12 EUR) paid.
