“Good night-stop on journey back to UK”
Reviewed 4 July 2013

Good hotel in an ideal position for travellers returning to UK from the south of France or Switzerland, for example. Helpful Manager (used to English guests), adequate en suite room, good food in the restaurant and in the heart of a historic town not far off the motorway. Ask for room in main hotel (not the annexe) and, if eating in the restaurant, in the conservatory. As suggested elsewhere, if you have time, walk round the old walls and read about the history of the town.

Room Tip: Ask for room in main hotel, not annexe.

My family and I have been using this hotel as a stopover to and from Italy for over 10 years. It's approx 4.5 hours from Calais. Excellent food with outdoor dining if warm enough, friendly staff and nice rooms. The hotel has garage parking which is ideal when you have a car full of luggage. Langres is a pretty town but from past experience I've found the hotel to offer the best dining experience and value for money.

Situated near the centre of the town close to the old walls. Garage parking available (€7 the night) but limited, so reserve in advance. Alternative is street parking. Depending upon who's on duty the welcome might seem a bit indifferent. The room was clean with high ceilings and parts of the original arches decoratively featured. Our bathroom was set in a less attractive low-ceiling 'box' at one end! Restaurant in pleasant ambiance. Food quite good but not cheap. Wine €8 per glass. Try to find time for the 1 1/2 hours walk around the City walls. Extensive views across agricultural land and forests on one side contrast with huddled dwellings and rear gardens to the other.

Good hotel in the center of the old city, clean and large enough rooms, valet parking, fantastic and unforced friendly service, WIFI everywhere, interesting price and last but not least the restaurant of the hotel, which is now called "Diderot". Dont search any further, go there! Creative menu's and at last: enough to satisfy your apetite, which is not always the case in many of those "special cuisine" hotels.
A price quality topper.

Have been staying at Le Cheval Blanc once or twice a year for over ten years. Throughout that time the whole experience has been, for us, good. And consistent. This is down to a small team who have been together for a long time know their business inside out. Most of the staff speak English and they are quick to note your preferences for future reference - for example they know that my mother always has a pot of tea on arrival and they automatically ask "tea?". Food is classic French and very good. Garage parking is most helpful, especially if you are travelling with a lot of kit for your holiday. Annexe rooms are small but clean and perfectly good for short stay.

We were delayed on our return from UK to Switzerland and stopped in Langres for the night. What a pleasant surprise to find this lovely hotel in the town centre with such a friendly welcome. Our room (9) on top floor was really nice with a King size bed and a single, a nice bathroom with separate WC (small, and would not suit a size challenged person!) with a spiral staircase to another room spacious room with 2 singles, a really nice shower room and separate WC.

The dining room had a really pleasant atmosphere, and our fine dining menu was really refined and enjoyable (and a request for a substitution for one of the courses agreed without supplement). The best we had in a long time. Breakfast was charged separately at 10E as we had not booked in advance. Our car (Landrover Discovery) was valet parked in a secure indoor area for 7Euros. Will definitely go back as it makes the ideal stop over for us.

Such a pleasant discovery.

Room Tip: Room 9 is perfect for a family, King bed + single, 2 more singles accessed by spiral staircase, 1 ba...
