The village is lovely very peaceful and people friendly. Good base to visit the area between Albi and Millau. The apartment is spotless with everything you require Brian and Anne are very welcoming and on hand to help in any way they can.

“Comfortable "Period" apartment”

Australian couple - early/mid 60's

Saint-Sernin-sur-Rance is a medieval village in the Aveyron department in southern France. Rue Haute is a first floor apartment in this village. The village has not been overrun by tourists at this stage. The apartment has been remodeled and upgraded but the essential "feel' of the building has been maintained.

The owners are on site. They are friendly, helpful but not intrusive.

The apartment is bright and clean. There are two large rooms on the first floor and a modern bathroom/toilet on the ground floor. There is electric heating in the bedroom, the kitchen/sitting room and the bathroom. A pedestal fan is also available for warmer weather. The kitchen/sitting room and bedroom have Juliet balconies that overlook the narrow street.

The kitchen/sitting room has a 4 burner gas hotplate, a bench-top convection oven, microwave, toaster, kettle and adequate cutlery crockery and pots and pans. There is a small flat screen television and DVD player. We could find no English channels but there is a small selection of "English" DVD's provided.

The bedroom has two large single beds (suspect a double bed could not be maneuvered up the staircase) and large "original" wardrobe. There are bedhead lights that allow for reading in bed. The beds are comfortable and the sheets were clean and crisp. Electric blankets are on both beds. There is also a folded bed available.

The bathroom is a good size with a shower cubicle (no bath). The water was hot with good pressure. The bathroom was clean with no "off smells". The basin has good lighting that allows for shaving or application of makeup. There is no power point in the bathroom for shaver or hairdryer.

Access to a washing machine is available but there is no outside clothes hanging area. A large folding clothes airer is available and can be used in the sitting room.

The WIFI was poor with access ranging from slow to non-existent.

There is no safe.

The village has a small supermarket, hotel, bakery chemist, doctor and fuel station.

We based ourselves in Saint-Sernin and explored the Tarn valley and its many medieval villages. The small number of "tourists" encountered added to the experience.

We have just spent a week at this lovely apartment. Just what we needed, well appointed with all facilities. 2 minute walk to bakery, supermarket, bar and hotel . Everything you'd need in a small village. Visited Albi Rodez and Rochefort, also drive along the Tarn gorge. Ben and Ann were helpful and friendly but only when you needed them- just knock on their door!! Great week Thanks to you both

“Magical hidden treasure off beaten path but easy to discover beauty of area from.”

Imagine a darling little flat up a small winding staircase with Juliet balconies in the bedroom & kitchen/living area tucked away on a narrow old street of a sleepy French village. Absolute charm personified, right? This lovely little treasure, a little off the beaten path but definitely worth discovering is homey, comfortable & cosy. Deceptively spacious & well-planned & beautifully restored with its soul still intact. Gives a real sense of history with the neighbour's home across the street that shows the date built over the doorway - 1778 - 11 years before the French Revolution! Wonderfully historical but sensitively & professionally updated with mod-cons. Cool & quiet at night with a bakery right around the corner for your morning pastries. Perfect pied à terre to explore the beauty & history of the surrounding area. Bonus of fresh milk waiting for you in fridge as well as a bit of bread & a wee drop of red & white wine to get your French holiday started off right. Why stay in a hotel when you can enjoy the hospitality of friendly but discreet hosts (English speaking too) & a lovely place to stay that is magical, historical & adorned with jolly flowers in window boxes so you can spot it easily from the street.

Liked best: The comfort and character. Having a few fresh basics in the kitchen, like bread, butter & milk!
Liked least: The church bells rang the hours and it seemed sometimes they rang them twice! We didn't mind though as we were mostly out & then quickly got used to the charm of it!!

“Delightful, spacious and well-equipped apartment in a truly authentic, rural french village”

Brian and Ann were incredibly helpful, welcoming and kind. We were delighted with the apartment, which is charming and full of character. It has everything you need at a very reasonable price. We really felt comfortable there and I wish I could have stayed longer. The location is amazing, the village is perched on the side of Rance valley and looks very dramatic as you arrive, almost clinging to the side of a gorge. The buildings are very old, medieval and later and it's very interesting to wander around and very unspoilt. There are local shops and a cafe and larger supermarkets fairly close-by in Requista and St Afrique, where there is a colourful, busy local market on a Sunday. I can honestly say that the area is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt places I've ever visited, with interesting places to visit in every direction. If you love scenery, history and nature, this is the place to go. I particularly loved the Tarn river, the Montagne Noire, the chateaux and abbeys and just walking around the numerous hilltop villages, clinging to the sides of the valley, steeped in history.... This was a truly memorable trip and I can't wait to go back.
