“Great stop over on journey to South West France”
Reviewed 13 November 2013

Highly recommended. A great place to stop over when driving down from Calais to South West France. Very friendly and helpful hosts who were very accommodating for our needs (lots of children with us). Stylish, spacious and comfortable room. Very tasty home cooked evening meal - extremely good value. The kids loved the animals in the garden. 10 mins walk from a charming little town - worth a visit and great to stretch the legs after a long drive. We look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Ground floor room great for the less mobile - easy access and spacious. But perhaps if you are a bit...

Hi Diana, great review with lots of precious info for future guests, nothing left for me to add, many thanks!

The upstairs room was indeed Honfleur which is a large double room that can accomodate up to 5 persons (3 adults and 2 children)! As alternative for our only room on the ground floor "Mont Saint Michel", which is as you mentioned specially equipped for disability access, we also have our suite "Giverny" on the first floor with a larger bathroom and similar facilities (large double bed of 1m6 for two adults and sofa bed of 1m4 in a seperate room to sleep two children, and a large bathroom especially appreciated by children as the bathtub is for two adults ;-)

We're glad you and the kids have enjoyed the stay and look forward to seeing you again next time you're passing through or perhaps even staying to visit the area

Oh dear...this is one of those lovely establishments that you don't want to tell everyone as it's so very special...but that would be would be very selfish of us...we enjoyed the hospitality of Robert and Fabienne and Fabienne's mamman. Fantastic dinner, just what we needed after a long journey and ridiculously well priced...If you want personal attention and not just another hotel then this is the place for you...It's not a hotel its a place that you are made very welcome as a guest without paying ridiculous prices. It's got a personality of it's own and anyone staying should encompass that. Go and visit and enjoy as we did. Definitely one to recommend.

We're very glad you've decided to share your experience and with this marvelous rating! Yesterday we've celebrated our 3rd months of opening and we've walked through our evaluations with a small tear of hapiness in our eyes that the vast majority of our guests realy enjoyed their stay and our concept.

Concering the price of dinner we'll see next seanon, it's home made and fresh and cooked with a heart, but not a core business we expect to earn a lot of money with! Anyway, with the VAT going up next year it may well be that we need to review our prices for food nevertheless.

Thanks again for these kind words, hope to see the four of you soon again at La Ferme en Ville.

My husband and I recently spent the night at this very special chambre d'hote. Robbert and Fabienne served us dinner on our arrival at 10.30 p.m. after a horrendous journey that took 3 hrs. longer than anticipated. We were so happy to see our friendly hosts and finally relax with a tasty Normandy-influenced meal. Thanks for your understanding and great hospitality. The room was warm on a very cool night, and the bed extremely comfortable. At breakfast we had a delicious croissant with freshly squeezed orange juice plus the fruit salad which was to have been our dessert the previous evening - we enjoyed this very much with yogurt. Then, baguette and scrambled eggs, tea and coffee. Also available were cereals, bacon & sausage, cheese & cold cuts. One word of warning if travelling south on the A28. Do not take any notice of the instruction that the bridge is closed in Rouen and you should follow the route to Le Havre to connect with the A28. Continue on to Rouen, turn right at the first set of traffic lights. Follow the river for a few hundred yards until you come to an obvious left turn over the river. Turn immediate right and then follow autoroute signs for Le Mans. It's always easy when you know how, but doubley difficult in the dark. We will definitely try to stay at La Ferme en Ville again.

A sincere honor to be your first 5* Tripadvisor evaluation! We are very pleased you have enjoyed your stay. We were indeed a bit worried that you could find us in the dark autumn night the day of your arrival and glad that you made it and even stayed for dinner after the difficult journey!

Thanks also for the instructions to overcome the Rouen obstacle. Rouen is indeed a nightmare with the Pont Mathilde being closed since two years due to an explosion. Last news we have is that it is going to take another two years before the ringroad will be back to normal!

We have much enjoyed your pleasant company and hope to see you again soon!

I was looking for a base within easy access to Dieppe for a long weekend with some biker friends. We go somewhere every year and hadn't been to France for too long.

I found La Ferme en Ville on one of the many holiday booking sites and the reviews drew my attention further. The hotel is as every bit as good as the reviews. Recently refurbished to a high standard, very comfortable and an easy half mile walk to the centre of the pretty medieval town. I knew nothing of Bernay before, I would certainly go again and would only stay at this hotel.

There are a wide and diverse range of restuarants in Bernay, but make sure you eat at The Hotel too, because the cooking is fabulously mouth watering!

Now let me mention the hosts, Robert & Fabienne.... what a charming, welcoming, friendly and easy going couple. It is they who made our weekend so special and it is they that are the main reason we will return as soon as we can.

We cannot recommend this cosy hotel highly enough and wish them every success.

Hi Paul, what a magnificent review, we're so glad you and your friends enjoyed your trip to Normandy and can return the compliment, you were marvelous guests, time flew by during your stay and both Fabienne and I were sad to see the five of you leaving on your bikes!

Next time you're coming we'll close the remaining rooms of our guesthouse so we can enjoy "different" music, and when weather allows it we'll have a grill party again, of course with a home made vegetarian lasagna for your special friend (you can tell him as well that we have now also placed soap baskets in his room ;-)

Thanks again for the kind words, looking forward to seeing you all next season!

We stayed one night whilst en route back to UK at this charming chambre d'hote run by Richard and Fabienne with help from Fabienne's Mum. We had a lovely big room with a wonderfully comfy bed and we were allowed to have our 2 (very well behaved) dogs with us. Richard and Fabienne were extremely kind, convivial hosts and Maman cooked us a delicious dinner as we didn't want to go out and leave our dogs! Richard, it turns out, is a musician and plans to have musical evenings during weekends. I wish we had been there on a Saturday. They have only been open since July but have really done well. The secret of success, of course, is making sure your clients are happy and comfortable. We shall definitely return.

Hi Marilyse, thank you for this wonderful evaluation, you were lovely guests and we're pleased to hear that you've enjoyed your short stay with us.

I'm sorry I wasn't up when you checked out after breakfast, Fabienne was so kind to let me sleep that day. Would love to continue our pleasant conversation so next time you're staying we'll light the fire place and continue the discussion over a good glas of Calvados, of course with short breaks for musical Entertainment!

Very good.
Would we return? Yes, most certainly!
We required a split booking: Friday, Sunday & Monday. Robert immediately replied to my email asking if this was an error on my part but then willingly agreed to my request.
Warm welcome by Robert and Fabienne, spacious and airy room, big bathroom.
Clean and quiet and good location, handy 5min walk to Bernay centre with many restaurants.
Friendly goats, hens and sheep in adjacent paddock. Plenty of parking.
As most eateries closed on Sunday evenings, mine hosts prepared an excellent 5 course Normandy dinner for us at reasonable cost.
Less good.
Spiral staircase to two floors but of adequate size for handling our suitcases. There were also some ground level rooms.
No wardrobe, only a type of coat rack with hangers.
Small screenTV for the addict watcher but wifi available.

Room Tip: You could just hear the trains so light sleepers should choose a room not facing the railway line. H...

Many thanks for this detailed evaluation , we're glad you've enjoyed your stay and much look forward to welcoming you as guests in our guesthouse again next time you visit friends in Bernay or when you are in the area!

The steep spiral stairs are part of the charm of our old mansion but indeed may cause complications when our guests often need to go up and down!

When we opened our guesthouse in July 2013 we initially thought that the small open dressing would be sufficient but you are absolutely right that for longer stays a closed closet is more convenient. We're checking with our hotel furniture supplier this minute to get an adequate solution for our 3 single rooms and our standard double room on the second floor (which for the moment only have an open dressing as these are attic rooms)

Concerning TV though, we will keep the small flatscreens and hope the addicts will come down for a drink and talk at the fire place or in case weather allows outside on the terras instead :-D

Final comment, we indeed have one room on the ground floor which we only make available for telephone reservations as this room is specially equipped for disability access!

Thanks again for your kind words and sincerely hope to see you again soon!

La Ferme en Ville provides the guest with a wonderful experience. Friendly atmosphere, warm welcome, scrupulously clean, the most comfortable bed imaginable and a great breakfast.
Fabienne and Robert are very convivial hosts and nothing is too much trouble.
Bernay itself is a gem of a little town and well worth visiting.
They will even provide a delicious evening meal if required. This was our first visit there and it certainty won't be our last.

Hi Tony, happy to hear you've enjoyed your stay with us.

As guesthouse we wish to diffentiate ourselves from competitors by our "welcoming", our comfortable beds and our meals and breakfast with fresh pressed orange juice and bacon and eggs. As such you sincerely make us extreme proud owners when we receive positive feedback on exactly these aspects!

Many thanks as well for your recommendation on our Facebook page "La Ferme en Ville". We notice word of mouth is working which is of extreme importance for us as staring guesthouse.

Your straightforward definition of the purpose of any business is still stuck in the back of our minds, hope soon to be able to continue our discussion!
