“Magical Experience With Out Of This World Hosts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014

We were absolutely blown away with this beautiful setting, fabulous accommodation, amazing food and what can we say about the hosts Thea and Eric are more than charming they really know how to look after you. Thea is bilingual French and English and Eric , who should have been a French film star speaks English in a way that makes you swoon!!!! Seriously though nothing is too much trouble for them and any quirks that your family might need are met discretely and in such a laid back way that it would make any parent weep with Joy. I witnessed this when I was there.
I would highly recommend this for couples young and old and for families. We loved it and wished we were not moving on to Nice for a week. The breakfast is to die for apricot jam with apricots from the garden flavoured with lavender( and we got a jar home with us) and lots of other wonderful local produce all made beautifully by Thea. The Table d'Hote on the Friday night was the highlight of our holiday with wonderful food and our hosts and their helpers putting us all at ease and the group of all ages including children and several nationalities communicating in the easiest and most enjoyable way making for a really magical experience.
Thea helps with suggestions and directions of places to visit and places to eat, even making the reservations for you so that there is no hassle for you. We particularly loved the Abbey nearby where we joined the monks for vespers, the hilltop villages and the AMAZING ochre mine equally delightful was just chilling out at Domaine Saint Jean in the gardens, in the huge pool or at Eric's Bar. As you can see we really loved it and I really need to add that the hosts really make this holiday, everything is as I and others have described fabulous food etc but nothing about it is pretentious , it is the ordinary made extraordinary !!!!!! I have never felt so well looked after. Anything that you might need to make your holiday go well Thea and Eric can accommodate . There are very few places that you can say that about. I cannot wait to go again there is so much to see and do. Thankyou Annie Baikie and Ed Bateman

Room Tip: They are all fabulous

In the heart of Provence is a well kept secret, the Domaine Saint Jean lies at the end of a farmtrack amost a grove of cherry trees. You will be welcomed warmly in fluent French or English and Madame goes out of her way to direct you to the most picturesque villages, charming restaurants with excellent local cuisine and of course the rolling fields of lavender. A generous breakfast will be adapted to your requirements. In my case Madame cooked gluten free clafoutis, apricot and cherry (tarts) and pancakes. We have spent a very happy and relaxing 10 days at the Domaine Saint Jean.

Room Tip: Pigeonnier is quiet

This B&B is in a stunning location and in a beautiful part of France. Thea and Eric are excellent hosts who both made us very welcome. The communal breakfast is wonderful and if you are lucky enough to be staying when Thea does a Table d'Hote in the evening I would recommend this very strongly. We had a most enjoyable evening with the other guests and the language barrier just seemed to evaporate after the second glass of wine!

There is a communal lounge and also a communal kitchen if you prefer to cook your own meals. We followed Thea's advice and ate at a local restaurant in Villars where we had such a superb meal that we went back there on the last night of our stay. The benefit of local knowledge is priceless in such situations. We didn't use the swimming pool, but it was open and heated and other guests were enjoying it and it looked superb.

We can thoroughly recommend this B&B. One very minor point, a hairdryer in the room would have been a nice feature.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Burlat Room which was very spacious with a luxurious bath! There is a door from the...

Stayed 4 nights at the beginning of October 2013, with my wife & 3 daughters, occupying the Montmorency and Burlat rooms, located one above the other in the same building, which proved a convenient arrangement for the family; what can we say - Eric and Thea simply have it! charming in character as well as in style (and this refers to both the Domaine and its owners), their abode in Provence sits right smack in the middle of the Luberon, providing an easy access to many pearls of the area and environs; rooms are good size and very nicely appointed (if on the minimalist side); each day we took out in the morning for a reasonable drive to Menerbes; St. Remy, including Glanum and the Carrierre de Lumiere spectacle (highly recommended); Rousillon; Fontaine de Vaucluse; Gordes etc.; and if we got back before sunset: enjoyed a quiet reading by the pool; thanks Eric & Thea for all your kindness and hospitality!

It was really comfortable stay. It was located in the farm and It is like staying at farmhouse not at the hotel. It is a bit difficult to find out this hotel, but this makes us feel special of staying at this hotel. The owner and daughter spoke English fluently. So, we could stay without any problem. They served the breakfast based on our request. We could feel the coutryside relaxing stay.

It's always nice to come across a chambre d'hôtes that has recently opened for business, as the owners are fresh and ready to really cater to their clients' needs. And this is the case with the Domaine Saint Jean (opened at the end of June 2012).

The other advantage is that the rooms in this lovely refurbished farmhouse are recently renovated and have been decorated with a great deal of taste, yet without coming across as snobby chic. This is not surprising since Eric, the owner, is an antiques dealer at L'lsle sur la Sorgue, one of the major sites in France for finding loads of antiques. Here then is another advantage : Eric can give you advice on where to look for antiques!

Back to the rooms: we were 3 in "la chambre Burlat" which was huge and looks out over a very nice courtyard. All the rooms in this B&B look really nicely done, but if I had had my choice, I would have gone for one of the "gîtes" or independant apartments. Really, for this posh area, I don't think you'll find a better deal. (For example, a very stylish apartment for 4 people at only 700€ per week in high season.)

Both the chambre d'hôtes and the gîtes have everything you need. The pool in particuliar is very modern and overlooks the valley and hills. (Do see their website for pictures of all this!).

Thea, the other owner, is British, but speaks perfect French as well. Her husband is French. I especially appreciated their down-to-earth friendliness. (Again, this is Peter Mayle territory and can be a bit on the snobby side - See the village of Gordes for example!) Although I wasn't able to do this, I imagine that it would be an interesting evening to do the table d'hôtes with them. Thea also gives great advice about places to visit off the beaten track.

Another advantage for this chambre d'hôtes is that it is located outside of Saint Saturnin les Apt, one of the less touristy villages. Finding le Domaine Saint Jean is not easy, and it could benefit from at least a sign on the road to indicate where it's at. (Thea came to meet us and led us to the house.) However, from what I understand, the lack of signage is because the owners want to preserve the natural charm of the area.

Overall, this is a great choice for the region....
