We booked a 7 night stay in a caldera view double room with outdoor jacuzzi.
Sofia and Aphrodite welcomed us warmly upon arrival and showed us to our room which was located on the lower level of the complex. They asked if we wanted something to eat but we declined as we knew we were going out later that evening.
The upper level is at street level where you will find reception and a large viewing terrace; as you work your way down the stairs you have the start of the accommodation. When you reach the bottom of the steps, you meet the pathway that runs along the caldera - if you go right it brings you to Oia, and if you go left it brings you to Firostefani and Fira. On the opposite side of the pathway are Absolute Bliss's remaining rooms and swimming pool down a short stairwell. Our room (3) was located on this lower level. If I am not mistaken, a lot of the complexes along here are split by this pathway so it is not just Absolute Bliss. And I did note that many of the rooms/suites of other complexes adjacent to this pathway had little privacy. The ones for Absolute Biss were fine. All complexes are right beside each other and at times difficult to tell apart. Absolute Bliss was right beside Heliotopas which was beside Andromeda Villas which was beside Above Blue Suites which was beside Whites!
Yes, there are steps and it is a hike up to reception from the lower level BUT if you follow the pathway in the Fira direction, at Andromeda you will find on the left a hidden passage (look for the marble steps) with an elevator that will bring you practically to the top of the complex (only about 10 steps to climb). This was a great find!
Our room was great - it was spacious, white and blue, light and airy. The large terrace had a table, 2 chairs, 2 loungers, a parasol and our jacuzzi! The view was spectacular! An uninterrupted 180 degree view!
Our bed was I guess what you would call a super, super king! And really comfortable.
There was plenty of storage in the wardrobe (hangers all matched), an iron, ironing board, slippers, robes and our beach towels. The bathroom was modest with sink, shower, fixed hairdrier and WC. Toiletries and towels were provided daily. There was a flatscreen TV with satellite TV, a phone and some tealights and candles for those nights you would stay on the terrace or in the jacuzzi stargazing. Strong Wifi which was free was an added bonus.
The minibar was well stocked with soft drinks and the mineral water (complimentary) replenished daily. It is perfectly big enough to hold wine you buy yourself in the shops if you take out some of the sodas.
Everything was spotlessly clean and fresh. In fact, on two occasions we happened to be on the terrace when the maids came and they really do give the rooms a thorough going over - they went so far as to clean the windows daily and are meticulous about the terrace (I guess that is because it is breezy and they don't want dirt getting into the jacuzzis). They were so sweet even to close the doors so that whatever noise they made would not disturb us.
The complex was really quiet - no noise at all.
Each day the maids would leave the breakfast menu which you would drop off at reception in the evening. Good choices and delivered on time straight to your room each morning.
The staff never seemed to be off duty - Sofia was always there so I don't think she sleeps at all! No matter what you needed or asked for they were exceedingly gracious and accommodating.
We were very kindly given a bottle of Santorini wine in our room both when we checked in and the night before we left which I thought was a lovely gesture.
The only small thing I would flag is, as mentioned by other travellers, is that the shower curtain was a little too short for the shower so water did splash out and flood the floor on our first morning. After that, we just put a spare beach towel down to absorb what splashed out and tried to be more careful. I believe that there are some renovations planned for later in the year so I would presume this will be looked at.
This was my second trip to Santorini and Imerovigli and I can tell you that my recent experience at Absolute Bliss far exceeded my previous stay. Nothing was too much trouble and I truly cannot fault one single thing. Customer service and relations? excellent. Standard of accommodation? excellent. Cleanliness? excellent. View? out of this world. Peace and tranquility? couldn't be quieter. Conducive to romance and unforgettable memories? ABSOLUTELY!
DO wear comfortable support shoes everywhere in Santorini - my plimsoles, while flat and sturdy, did nothing to stop my calf muscles from aching after walking on cobbles and up and down steps all day! You wouldn't believe the number of women I saw in 5inch WEDGES trying to navigate the cobbled streets of Fira at night without taking a tumble!
DON'T hesitate to take a taxi to Fira - only 5 euro; taxi to airport is 20 euro.
SHOP There is a small shop on street level opposite Absolute Bliss for the basics like sun cream, hats, biscuits, drinks. Try going to Jimmy's which is in the middle of Imerovigli (7mins on foot from Absolute Bliss and 20 metres from the bus stop in Imerovigli Fira direction). It has a larger selection of things including wine.
DO consider hiring a car for a day - we waited for the bus in Imerovigli to take us to Fira in order to catch the bus to Akrotiri. Two came without stopping as they were so full (bear in mind they come only every 30mins)! So, after an hour of waiting, and since the bus stop is right beside a car hire we asked how much to hire a little runaround for 24hrs. We got a little car for 40 euro (incl insurance) which we took to actually drive to Akrotiri, Perissa, and Oia. So was well worth it for the extra comfort and freedom.
EAT at Mezzo and Blue Note (both in Imerovigli - was not impressed by Anogi also in Imerovigli. Despite the level of good service, the pork (for both the souvlaki and pork in prunes) was exceptionally tough and ended up not being eaten, but rather chopped up and taken away in a napkin to feed to the stray cats in the village - sorry!)
RESERVE a table at Argo in Fira - you won't regret it.
IF peace and quiet is what you are looking for, Fira may not be for you; lots of tourists particularly during the day when the cruisers dock, little privacy from gawpers looking down on accommodations from street level, bars and restaurants; and even more steps! Imerovigli is very quiet and only 5mins and 5 euro in a taxi from Fira.
DON'T be fooled by the cooling sea breeze in Santorini - it masks the strength of the sun so slap on lots of sun lotion!
GIVE the donkeys a break and take the cable car up and down to the old port - 4 euro each way!
