“Great hotel, service, location, food but overpriced”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 October 2010

Hotel was fantastic. Room was nice and roomy but very white and after a few days, gets boring. We had no complaint about hotel, staff, services, etc but for off season, the price was very expensive. The staff arranged for rental car. The car was brought to hotel and for return, they also picked it up from hotel. We explored the entire island in 3 days with our car. Lots of free parking and driving is also easy.

Santorini has no night life; great sightseeing, food, people and is very beautiful. You won't need more than 3 or 4 days.

We got free pick up and transfer from and to airport arranged by hotel. Also we got 2 free 30 minutes massages but it was not that fantastic.

The spa, steamroom, jacuzzi was very nice and relaxing and great to end the day.

I couldn't recommend the Avaton enough. We booked three nights but ended up postponing our departure to stay a fourth night. The setting was spectacular (not unusual for a hotel located on the cliffs of Imerovigli). The hotel is built in the typical white plaster style of the Cyclades and is immaculately maintained. One of the things that makes the Avaton special is the fact that there are only nine rooms so no matter how booked they were, it always felt very intimate and the service was very personalized. The staff made every effort to see that we had anything we needed. Marco (the hotel's only waiter while we were there) provided the most gracious, friendly and attentive service you could hope for. It didn't hurt that the food prepared in the tiny kitchen was some of the best we had on the island. The spa was wonderful. The jacuzzi couldnt have been more relaxing, connected to the hotel but in a cave underneath the road which passes by the property, it was beautifully lit with blue pinhole lights in the rounded cave ceiling. The couple's massage my wife and I got was the icing on the cake.

We spent two weeks in Greece, and stayed in several hotels. We were very lucky that all of them turned out to be really nice. But none of them compared to our stay at the Avaton. Our room, though certainly not their top offer, was pristine and spacious, keeping with the Santorini cave theme. The bed frame was actually part of the plaster interior, as were the bedside tables, making for a charming setting. The Avaton is not inexpensive, but well worth every penny.

A perfect place to relax for our 30th wedding anniversary. All the staff and management are friendly, focussed and completely service orientated, going out of their way to assist us with our trip enquiries and daily arrangements - as and when needed - including doing research and enquiries for us overnight!

The room was luxurious, modern and spacious, with an exquisite view of the bay. The hotel is in a suitably quiet spot at the top of the cliff facing side of the island but is conveniently located for access to all parts of the island. The convenience of the on-site spa added to the relaxation and enjoyment of the holiday. The pool is refreshing and welcoming with a complementing view of the sea.

All-in-all this was the perfect destination for our 4 night stay on the island!

We stayed at the Avaton for our honeymoon. We were booked in a nearby hotel that had a problem with our room so we ended up at the Avaton in a serendipitous twist of fate. The staff was amazing. They spoke perhaps the best english of anyone we encountered on the island and were extremely attentive and detail oriented, which is a benefit of the small hotel with only nine rooms. The rooms are clean, beautiful and new and equipped with wonderful rain showers. We also had the pleasure of a private jacuzzi overlooking the sunset. The food was phenomenal! The staff serves a delicious breakfast right out on your private balcony. The hotel also has a fantastic and modern spa built into a cave. Overall we would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in Imerovigli. The location is convenient and the amenities were top notch.

On arrival at Avaton's sister hotel, Regina Mare, my boyfriend and I were lucky enough to be told that we were being upgraded to Avaton for our stay in Santorini. We couldn't believe our luck. The hotel is beautifully appointed, spotless and extremely well done out with the most incredible views. The rooms in particular are stunning with flat screen tvs, waterfall showers and the most amazing breakfast you could ever wish served to you on your balcony every morning (up to 12pm as well if you fancy a lie-in!) The staff were also the loveliest I have ever had the pleasure to meet. The restaurant staff, the lady who cleans the rooms and Laura on reception were all always extremely friendly, kind to us and knowledgeable - a real credit to the hotel. Thanks to Laura we enjoyed our last night at one of the island's top restaurants in Oia on our final night (1800) and also had another great meal at a mediterranean restaurant in Fira (Saltsa) when we'd had enough Greek food for a few days. Both restaurants were fantastic and we never would have discovered them on our own.

We were in Santorini for a friend's wedding, so it was great to have the cave spa on hand for a bit of pampering in advance. The spa was delightful - it seemed really new, spotless again, gorgeous little lights built into the ceiling, we enjoyed the hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room and plunge pool twice, all free of charge. There were also various treatments available for a price if desired. We could see that it would be the perfect place to stay if you were getting married or going on honeymoon.

All in all, you will see from the pictures just how special this place is - as another guest said, we soon realised that we would never find a better view of the sunset on the island other than the one from our balcony! The fact that there are only 9 rooms means that it always feels quite quiet and never overcrowded. The food from the kitchen is also absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. We ate from the a la carte menu on our balcony one evening to savour our balcony view and the food was top notch.

For those worried about staying in a cliffside hotel, another major plus point to this hotel is that Avaton is one of the hotels on the upper level of the cliff. Some of the other hotels are halfway down the cliffside and so can only be reached by millions of steps.

It really is a case of so many poitive things to say and not enough room to say them all!

Finally, location-wise, Imerovigli is a very quiet village and only has a handful of restaurants (and no bars), so for more choice of food and entertainment you have to go to either Oia or Fira. Both are a short taxi ride, about 15 euros each way. Oia is more restaurant and cocktail bar-y with late night trinket/jewellery shops and lovely streets to wander around. Fira has similar but is also much more lively and touristy with more loud bars etc. We had a good night out at both but really enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of staying in Imerovigli - we loved wandering the windy cliff paths (which are fairly well lit although a torch is useful) after eating dinner and taking in the night view. All in all we had a great holiday and it was definitely down to the wonderful Avaton resort. We just want to know what we did to deserve such a treat! Thank you so much to all who looked after us.
