“A Perfect Honeymoon”
Reviewed 2 June 2011

My wife and I stayed at Kapari for our honeymoon at the end of May. The hotel is in a beautiful location, with perfect views of the Caldera and the sunset for which Santorini is famous for.
Everything about the hotel was top class, from the friendliness and professionalism of the staff, to the standard of the rooms and the food served in the restaurant. We were given the best room in the hotel, which is located in the private residence and comes with its own private terrace and hot-tub with stunning panoramic views overlooking the Volcano and the caldera sunset - highly recommended!
The hotel has a smallish but perfectly adequate pool, but with so many beautiful places to swim in the ocean, we never got chance to use it.
As it's located in Imerovigli, Thira/Fira is well within walking distance (30mins walk) so there are also plenty of options for dining out, without the need for a designated driver.

We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit Santorini, whether it's for a stunning honeymoon or simply to explore the island.

Room Tip: when booking ask for Philip, the manager

Kapari was our favourite hotel of our trip to the islands with its stunning view of the Caldera, welcoming and friendly staff, excellent facilities, fabulous restaurant, amazing infinity pool area and overall experience. Kapari exceeded our expectations and we were even offered an upgrade on our room which was the finishing touch for the perfect stay. We will definitely be back

It so happens that I almost always make the bookings at the last moment. This time I saw a discount for the Vanilla rooms in this hotel, I liked the photos on their site, so I took a chance. The reality turned out to be even far better than expected.
First, I was immediately upgraded from the Vanilla rooms to a better class room. The hotel building floats down the slope, it is like steps on different levels. My room was a little bit aside from the main block, in a private corner for four rooms of my type and one up the stairs, often used for the honeymoons. The same corner was equipped with an outdoor jacuzzi with a view over the caldera (I did not use it – it was too windy in May). There is also a table for outdoor meals and the chaise-longues for watching the sunset, which is – beyond what words may tell.
The room was simply charming. It has a cave-like design. There is a bed in a recessed corner, a kind of a living-room corner in the same room, with a thick pillow in it, in one of the corners, and a large TV on a very charming designer-style table made of aged wood. The bathroom was really nice, with its two designer bowls, a cave-like shower unit and a set of some really good cosmetics. Moreover, the room was equipped with a Smart Home system that helps you adjust the lighting and air conditioning from a single unit (there were more functions like TV and Internet, but I did not use them). You spend some time simply playing with it – Soft-Romantic-Full-etc. light and some air conditioning modes. That was fun.
The private set of rooms has an exit leading to the main pedestrian road along Imerovigli-Firostefani-Thira (see below), and a way to the main block of buildings that accommodates the swimming-pool, the restaurant and the terraces (takes you only one minute to get to the main block). So that is a small private place for leisure and relaxation.
As for the road: there is a small road that leads you through all the caldera-view towns to Thira (takes about 30 minutes to walk there – with all the pictures you may take along the way). Besides, the same road may lead you to Oia, if you don’t mind some walking exercise. That is a long track, it leads you through two really high mountains with astonishing views, and takes several hours. For those, who wish to make their way to Oia on foot – get a camera, some water and a parka, as it is really windy on both mountain tops (at least in May). You won’t regret it – I’ll be rewarded by a pleasant stroll and thousands of pictures you may shoot along the way. If you are physically fit – that could be a nice idea for one of the days you spend in Santorini.
A day later I was upgraded to an even better room. That was a two-level room with a living-room on the lower level (a door opens directly to the road along the island) and a bedroom on the second level (a door leads you directly to the swimming pool area. A bed and TV on the second floor, a couch with a table (aged wood boards, very classy), TV and a fireplace (with a large candle) below, a dressing-room for your luggage and clothes, a kitchenette and a bathroom on the same level. The bathroom has an even more exquisite design.
In general – the design may be called “exquisite in its simplicity”. Smooth floating lines, traditional cave-like style, good color combinations, nothing excessive – just what you may need.
What is worth mentioning – you may see the caldera directly from your bed!!! The window shows cliff Skaros and the whole sea area, with all those cruise-liners and all the Santorini towns. I hope to get there, if I ever get wed.
What else could I say… The breakfasts: you won’t be hungry for the next half of the day . You should obviously try the home-made cookings and the local specialitet – yogurt with fruit and/or honey (you may have found the same dish in over reviews of this area – the one in Kapari is really worth mentioning, as it is great!). I tried the restaurant meals beyond the breakfast – you may try the capers salad (by the way, the hotel name – Kapari – means “capers”).
I did not use the swimming pool (too cold in May). Though it is made so that you may see directly into the caldera from it. So if it is warmer – give it a try!
I had only one misfortune, which was not related to the hotel: my FlyCat ferry to Heraclio was cancelled on the day of my departure (Warning: that may happen due to weather conditions, Santorini is an island after all, so for all those planning to go to Santorini – make sure you have some time and money reserve for emergencies). Actually, that was not much of a problem, as Alexandra, a girl on the reception, spent almost an hour with me and helped me plan my new journey through Athens. She made all the telephone calls and provided all the trip information, so that my new trip was perfectly planned. Alexandra, if you read this – thank you!!!
To finalize it all: all people working in Kapari make all their best to please you. Immediately at the reception you are met with Mmichael, who takes you to a short excursion around the hotel and shows you the surroundings. All the people in the restaurant will make you happy (the girls will not let you get out hungry). You will probably meet Natasha (sorry, I don’t know the exact spelling), the owner of the place, who made all the design. So thank you all! I really spent a wonderful time.

My fiance surprised me with 3 nights at Kapari in the premium room with a gorgeous view of the sea right from our bed. The "rooms" are the traditional cave style with the latest technology. I suggest the room with the caldera view from the bed with the bedroom door that goes off to the infinity pool. The hotel has seperate living spaces for couples and families. The hotel was brand new, clean and beautiful. Kapari is in Imerovigli which may seen off the beaten path but really is only a 5 minute cab ride to main street Fira. The location is quieter than busy Fira. Philip and his staff were so friendly, personable and went over and above every request.

Room Tip: Caldera view from the bed. Best room!

We stayed at Kapari from Apr. 4 - Apr. 8, 2011. The original booking was for a vanilla room for only 2 nights. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by everyone and the hotel staff surprised us with a triple upgrade to a pool side suite with indoor jacuzzi! What can I say? This is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed. Perfect combination of traditional and modern design, which creates such unique rooms that are far better than normal luxurious hotels. No wonder it received an architecture award.

If you want to indulge yourself with the most breathtaking sunset everyday, Kapari offers the best location. It's a brief walk away from Thira for more night life, and offers absolute beauty and tranquility at the same time. We loved the place so much as to extend our stay to 4 nights!

Apart from the fantastic room facility and location, the staff is what truly made the stay so personal and memorable. Everyone from the hotel manager, receptionist and restaurant staffs know us by person. They are genuinely friendly, generous and offer the best help in terms of services and sightseeing tips. We didn't had a guide book, but had seen the most beautiful spots on the island under the suggestions of the hotel manager.

Thank you Kapari to make our holidays a perfect getaway!

p.s. The weather in early Apr. is still a big chilly. But it was mostly sunny and not crowded at all. If you want to avoid the large amount of tourists, this is really a good time to go.
