My partner and I have been to a fair few luxury hotels and the Chromata in Santorini was far and away the best. If you are looking for alot of bling and obsequious staff, this is not the hotel for you - but if you are looking for a hotel that re-defines simple elegance is incredibly clean (against all odds given the fact that it is built into the cladera - essentially a set of caves), has beatiful individualized rooms all with private terraces over looking the stunning volcano, has wonderful food with a personalized breakfast service brought right to your terrace each morning, provides little things including a preset ipod and mobile phone for your use, and has a staff that works incredibly hard to make sure that you have the best stay humanly possible - the Chromata is a must stay. Just to be clear, the manager of the hotel worked to get us back to Santorini for HOURS after she found out that our ferry was cancelled after a 24 hour stay in Mykonos for a wedding (we had no idea and were lounging on the beach before departure) - she had looked at every possibility and was ready to turn each one on if the ferry company did not come through with a replacement. They made us feel welcome, safe and cared for without being overwhelming. We really cannot thank them enough for their impeccable service. And, honestly, Imerovigli is really the perfect location. I know everyone says the sunsets at Oia make that the place to stay, but Oia seemed overrun with cruise ship day trippers and Imerovigli had a spectacular view of Nea Kameni all of the Caldera and islands in the vicinity and was lovely and quiet - and only a 20 minute walk to Fira for the fabulous shopping. Remember the Chromata, it really is wonderful.

We were upgraded to this hotel as our hotel we booked was not ready for the start of the season. On arrival greeted with awesome views and glass of champs. Staff very friendly and super efficient. Nothing was ever too much trouble .
We stayed with 5 other couples. All rooms offer slightly different room arrangements. Some with hot tubs, some with spas some with both! Very large rooms. All white and all mods cons-even a great bose sound system with ipod.
The only thing that was slightly of putting for me was the room that we were allocated had a very very small balcony compared to the other rooms and shared it with the staircase that staff used which meant that when having brekky the early staff were coming and going on your balcony. They were very polite but was a little bit annoying at times.

The hotel has just been renovated. Completely white from the pool to the bar and to the room. Top level view, service, cleanness,... Rooms are incredible: white, fresh, luxurious, great and very comfortable beds. Service is to the upper standards. View is one of the best, with a great swimming pool on the caldera. Enjoy a wonderfull breakfast on your terrasse! Roula (the manager) and her team are very sympathic and will do the best to give you a great stay.
Don't hesitate. Probably one of the best hotels I have ever experienced.

Just spent a wonderful four days on Santorini at the Chromata Hotel and cannot recommend it highly enough. We had actually been transferred from another hotel who had messed up our reservation and it turned out to be the best thing that happened to us.
The hotel is built into the hillside as are most Fira hotels and has a very modern feel to it. It had just been renevated and had re-opened only days before we arrived. While there were signs of the still ongoing renevations (the spa was still incomplete) it did not detract from our stay in the least.
From the moment we arrived, we treated with some of the best service i have experienced in a long time. The staff even went down to our other hotel to get our bags and bring them to us (no small feat if you are famillar with the steep streets of Fira). We were greeted by Rhola who is the hotel manager. She meet us with a welcome drink and then showed us a choice of rooms to choose for our stay (a first in all the years we have been traveling) . We ended up in a room with a hot tub under the pool level. The room, like many on Santorini, was somewhat cave like but that only served to add to the ambience. The interior is all white with a super comfortable bed, large flatscreen TV and I-Pod dock (and an I-Pod preloaded with great music). The bathroom is huge (seriously, the bigest bathroom I have ever seen) with Bulgari ammenities and a tub and seperate rainfall shower. More impressively, every room has it's own mostly private veranda overlooking the most incredible sea view you can imagine. If that wasn't enough, after the first night, when we mentioned that there was a little condensation on the walls, Rhoula immediately moved us to one of the Honeymoon suites which was even nicer.
Breakfast is included in the rate. You order from the full menu and it's served on your own private veranda. There is a small but decent inifinity pool overlooking the cliffs and by the time you read this there will be a sauna and giant hot tub as well. The bar is staffed by Panos who also doubles as the concierge and makes a mean Mojito.
The true gems of the hotel are Rhoula, Panos and the whole staff who go out of their way to make you feel welcome and take care of any and all needs from arranging a car rental and tours to making dinner reservations, leaving you free to enjoy all that Santorini has to offer.
Overall, we would gladly stay at the Chromata again and highly recommend it to anyone looking to have an unforgetable time on Santorini. While it may be a little pricey, it is well worth every penny.

I booked the Chromata after some hesitation given the panoply of caldera view hotels available for review on-line. For a bit of background to my tastes, I work for an airline and travel a great deal throughout the world so feel like I can write this review with an eye toward impartiality. We arrived in late September and the weather was great and the crowds were down--highly recommend this time of year for a visit to Greece. The staff at the hotel was very accommodating and upgraded me without asking after the first night due to my height (6'5") and the fact that our original room was fairly small. These are all cave type rooms and the room they upgraded me to was large, had an indoor plunge type pool, and was very, very nice. The plunge pool is a better concept than it is in practicality in my experience--especially an indoor one. The service was very attentive from the folks at the front desk to the servers. Breakfast was definitely one of the high points as I was startled to learn that you could order a wide variety of food from their set menu for free--croissants, coffee, omelettes, fruit, yogurt, etc. The food was served on time and made for a great start to the day. The pool is quite small but beautiful and certainly sufficient for most keeping cool during the middle of a hot day. Additionally, there were some beds to lay out on above the pool since the pool are could conceivably get quite crowded in the summer I would imagine. The location is in a quieter area on the caldera but close to a small grocery store and a car/moped rental. I would note though that a walk into Firofestani takes a good 10-12 minutes and I walk very fast and am in good shape. I would guess most folks over 40 would traverse the distance in closer to 20 minutes but it is a nice walk and mostly downhill. The restaurant slightly above the hotel was recommended but we didn't find it to be very good and it seemed overpriced for what you received. One thing I would recommend is renting a scooter and driving to Oia and to Perissa and some of the other beach towns. Very good way to see the island. Went on the sunset cruise to the volcano and hot springs and would probably pass on that if had to do over again--it wasn't overwhelmingly bad nor was it overwhelmingly good--just middling. Also went to Folegandros (loved it) and Mykonos (check out the Belvedere Hotel in the latter). All in all, I would highly recommend the Chromata without reservation.
