“Amazing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2013

We got married at the Astra Suites hotel on 1st June 2013 and had the most wonderful wedding and stay. One of the reasons we chose the hotel was because of the great reviews on Tripadvisor. Our expectations were therefore very high and I am pleased to say all of our expectations were met and exceeded!

It is hard to know where to start with this review, as this is definitely the best hotel we have ever stayed in…

The accommodation - We stayed in a Honeymoon Jacuzzi Suite with a great view of the Caldera. The main room was very large with a kitchenette, lounge/dining room area and a very large comfy bed. The main room was decorated very simply – white walls with local artwork. The bathroom was very large and had a large shower area, which again was very large (in fact it could probably fit 6 people in!). Everything in the room was finished to a very high standard and it certainly had a lot of character. The balcony was large and private and we were very pleased with the Jacuzzi.

The views from the hotel of the Caldera and towards Oia are truly stunning and it is certainly a very romantic place.

The service at the hotel was outstanding. All of the staff were very professional, friendly and helpful at all times. One of the highlights was breakfast on the balcony, which was delicious. There was a great choice of breakfast foods, including Eggs Benedict and Santorini omelette. Lunch and cocktails were also very good.

The wedding itself went very well. The traditional Greek band was great, as was the makeup artist and hairdresser and the photographer, all of which were arranged by George. The wedding meal was also superb. Thanks for your patience with the sky lanterns! We loved every minute of our stay at Astra Suites. Thanks to George and all the staff for all your help with arranging our wedding and for all the extra things you did that made it such a wonderful, unforgettable experience. We will definitely be returning!

Room Tip: The honeymoon jacuzzi suites are the most private.

We stayed at Astra Suites for our honeymoon in May. This is the most beautiful place I've ever seen and the hospitality at the hotel still outshines it. George, George, and Helena went above and beyond for us. They helped us book outings, taught my husband a little Greek, and showed us what to do in Santorini when it rains - which it almost never does. The suite was gorgeous - we even had our own pool. It was well kept, roomy, and comfortable. The bathroom was stunning - looked like it belonged in a spa in a movie. After staying at Astra for 5 days, we moved to another hotel in Oia for a different experience and we longed to go back to Astra. If you have the chance to go to Santorini, make sure you stay here.

We chose to stay at the Astra Suites based on the views we read on trip advisor and we were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived the service was faultless. The manager George gave us a detailed overview of the island and the staff went over and above their duties in ensuring I was reunited with my suitcase that went missing somewhere en route from Rome. The bar man Costa is a cocktail genius, his chilli coconut mojito is unlike anything I have ever had before but is to die for! The hotel is located in Imerovigli which is the highest point on the island. Regardless of which hotel you choose make sure you stay in Imerovigli, we travelled around the island while we were there and nowhere else can compare with regards to the view and the peace and quiet. Stay clear of Fira if R&R is what you're after, every day several cruise ships dock by Fira so the town gets very crowded. Anyway back to Astra, we had a junior suite (room 102) which was expensive but well worth it. The rooms are quirkily decorated which I loved, our floor was multicoloured tiles and the white walls were covered in glitter! Which you could only see when the light shone just right. The rooms Are made up twice a day which was a nice touch, and breakfast served in the balcony was great. The only slight criticism is that our balcony had zero privacy as it was right by the pool, but as I quite like people watching I didn't mind this.

My husband and I stayed at Astra Suites at the end of May 2013. This was the beginning of tourist season, so it was still fairly empty and we were given a free upgrade to the Honeymoon Suite because not all the rooms were taken. We stayed here for 4 nights. It was incredible!

1) The island
Yes, there are cheaper places to stay on the island, but the view from Imerovigil is just amazing. Also, Imerovigil is quieter and more private than Oia or Fira (which both get a lot of activity from cruise ships). The first few days we were here the weather was hazy (still breath taking) and warm (upper 80s and humid). The last day we were there a wind storm came through, which cleared up the weather for the sunset and cooled the temps - but it was WINDY! I would suggest going during tourist season. Many restaurants and shops are closed during the off season. Additionally, its nice to be on an island surrounded by water and for it to be warm enough to get in the water!

2) The hotel
We really felt like we received the 5-star treatment at Astra Suites. The staff was all so nice, helpful and gracious. The bar and the pool have an amazing view and tasty drinks. The service, from the arrival to the departure was the best service I've ever experienced at a hotel. Our room was amazing - it is on the chilly side, but it was a great respit from the humidity and warmer temps the first few days, and they do give you blankets, robes and slippers for your convenience.

3) The restaurant
Take at the very least one evening to eat at the hotel restaurant over looking the caldera for sunset. It's not only an amazing view but really really incredible food. We ate several places on the island and we both felt that Astra's restaurant was up there with the best places on the island for food.

We have spent 3 days as a couple in this hotel, and it was truly great! This is a 4 star hotel if I am not mistaken, but it is worth all 5 stars!
We were in the pool suite, and it is worth every penny! The private pool is good in size, the suite itself is huge, and the service is welcoming and efficient. The cleaning lady comes when you let the reception know that you are going away for lunch/afternoon etc and doesn't bother you every morning as it usually happens in many hotels I have been to. They have a Bulgari bath washing stuff and its really nice! There is a delicious restaurant at the hotel, and a room service until 11pm (which I think is too early but I am used to have dinners very late). All the food we had was very very nice!
There is not enough water on the island to fill the huge bathtub that there is in the bathroom, but there is the pool and since it is hot you don't really need baths anyways. There is also a little kitchenette which is nice if you are staying longer and don't want to eat outside all the time.
3 days is not enough to visit the beautiful island, there are tons of stuff to do, so I recommend 7 days at least, and for sure we are going to come back!

Room Tip: The pool suite is truly great!

My husband and I found Astra Suites by an ad in one of the magazines 13 years ago and marked it on our bucket list. We have been to Astra now 3 times, and each visit we remember why this hotel/suite is our favorite place and how couples can find this very romantic. George, Helen and Sharon are the most friendly, helpful and willing staff anyone could ask for, if they cannot accomodate you, the bend over backwards to find a solution. We have referred many friends and relatives and they keep going back, it has to say something "we have found a gem" in Santorini! The property is truley in the middle of Oia and Fira, hugging the cliffs above the Caldera. Stunning views of the Caldera, Oia, and sunsets, you could not ask for a better spot on the island. Each room is unique, decorated with suttle of vibrant colors, some with seperate living rooms, some with private pools. We have had the luxury to have a room with a private pool each time and this past trip in June we were glad we were able to just jump in, the weather was a tad hot, high 80's. You get to chose what you want for breakfast, anything from eggs, fruit, bakery baskets, or greek yogurt with honey that is beyond fantastic and is delivered to you in the morning where you can sit on your deck and enjoy the morning. They have recently opened their own resturant and we can honestly say they have excellent food! We had dinner in one of the caves, and enjoyed a greek salad, lamb chops and wine, another couple from England joined us on this blustry night and they commented on the great food and wine selections too. If you are traveling to Santorini, looking for a romantic, perfect location hotel, chose Astra, you surely will not be disappointed.

We spent 7 perfect days in this hotel.
Being a high demand, we could book 4 days in the Honeymoon Suite (no. 301) and 3 day in the Senior Suite (no. 105). We felt great in both of them.

The area is very quiet. The view is gorgeous during the day and at sunset (see pics).
At night, it is very quiet and you can sit on the terrace until late.

The staff is very polite, very nice and the services were perfect.

The food in the restaurant is excellent and the view during sunset is breathtaking. We tried almost everything in the menu. Confidently follow the recommendations made by Christine and Costas.

The GM, George Karaiyannis, is a wonderful person. He took care of everything we needed. More than that, he personally involved in solving a problem we had with the car rental company and defended our rights ”just because we are his clients”. (By the way, rent a car and visit the entire island. It worth!)

Our conclusion: After 15 years of holidays spent in some of the best hotels in Asia, Europe, North Africa and the Canary Islands, we finally benefited of the PERFECT service!

Thank you George! Thank you Chistine and Costas! Thank you Astra team!

Room Tip: If you want privacy, choose room 301! If you like the life near the bar and the pool, choose room 1...
