My husband and I went here on our honeymoon and we couldn't have loved it more. The view from our balcony was breathtaking. The room was clean with just the right modern touches. The staff was warm and helpful. We were so surprised to come back to our room on the second day and find champagne and chocolates gratis from the hotel to help us celebrate our honeymoon!

When you first arrive at Astra Suites you might be somewhat disoriented, because you walk down an amazing path with fabulous views for quite a distance from the road. Don't worry, you won't have to lug any suitcases, the staff takes care of everything - even carrying your heavy suitcases on their shoulders, because part of the path has lots of steps. Once you get to the reception area, you can relax because everything will be taken care of for you. They will give you plenty of options of things to do, but once you see the facility you may never want to leave. The room was lovely, big enough to spread out and with all the amenities. Breakfast is delivered to your room (we had them set it up outside on our patio) every morning and you can enjoy the view while starting your day. The pool was beautiful, the pool bartender made exceptional drinks, and the view was spectacular. We ate dinner twice at the hotel and the food was exceptional. There is no bad news about staying at Astra Suites.

Room Tip: We had the suite right in front of the pool and it was a lovely location if you tend to run back and...

This hotel is perched high on the hill overlooking the Caldera. Breathtaking view, perfect sunsets, and nice location to access the whole island by car or local buses...

The rooms feel like very modern caves carved into the hillside. If you are concerned about climbing stairs - forget about it. The restaurant on property is small, with excellent personal service... The staff is wonderful, and always anxious to please.

The port at Santorini is chaos, this we discovered when we and a thousand others poured out of the Blue Star ferry on a very hot afternoon in September. Thankfully, an Astra staff member was on hand to scoop us up out of the chaos into a perfectly cooled Mercedes Benz minivan with complimentary ice-cold water. During the very conformable and spacious ride to our suite, he pointed out sites of interest to us and engaged us in charming conversation. This service cost 20 euro for two passengers, which was extremely reasonable. We were so happy with it that we decided to use the service for our return to the port. For 20 euro, there is a chance that other guests may also be picked up, however this was not the case for our journey, and I had the feeling that this was the norm.
Astra really understands service. It is clear that they have worked very hard to perfect their craft over many years. There are too many examples to write here, but here are a few. As Astra is situated on a steep incline, lugging bags around is an extremely unpleasant proposition. However the Astra staff take care of all of that for you. Not only that, but where the path is smooth they will roll your bag, where it is uneven or cobbled, they will heft your bag up onto their shoulder to protect your luggage! Even my embarrassingly cheap luggage!!
As we were on a honeymoon, Astra provided us with many complimentary extras, such as wine and fresh fruit on our first night, free use of the spa for about one hour or 90 minutes, and a bottle of champagne with handmade chocolates by the Astra chef (exquisite!) at sunset on the second night. As for the champagne, we decided to stay out later on our second night and asked that the champagne be delivered at 9 pm (sunset is usually at 7 pm). Of course they were happy to do this for us, unfortunately, that evening the weather took a turn for the worse for an hour or two around 9 pm. Nevertheless, the staff laboured up the steep steps in the rain and wind to deliver our champagne at exactly 9 pm. Not only that, but they did it cheerfully!
The only honeymoon extra we did not use was the spa, and this was completely our own fault. the staff warned us many times that we should reserve our time as early as possible. Due to our indecision about whether or not we wanted to use the service, we left it too late and it was fully reserved. So if you intend to use this service, heed the warnings of the staff.
The breakfast delivered to your terrace was amazing. It includes lovely fresh croissants, bread, and muffins; Eggs - scrambled, fried, Benedict, or in omelettes; fresh juices; meats - basically a perfectly executed continental breakfast. You can also make special requests at no extra charge. The staff call ahead to make sure you are ready for your breakfast at the time you have requested the night before. They are also very timely in removing the empty plates, and our plates were always completely empty!
I personally have a rather annoying habit of not tipping until the last day of my stay at a hotel. This is because it is easier for me, it is also easier to keep track of my tips, and it is a good way to test the quality of the service. In some hotels if upon your first meeting with a staff member, you do not tip, their motivation to help you is noticeable less in subsequent meetings. This is NOT the case at Astra. Even after struggling up steps with my suitcase on their shoulder, covered in sweat and out of breath and then leaving empty handed, the staff were always eager to help, courteous and genuinely friendly. So I had no qualms about tracking them down on the last day and showing my gratitude. Of course I don't recommend this strategy for tipping, as I said, it is very annoying.
Our room was beautiful. None of your sterile, boring chain hotel design, instead a sophisticated and imaginative bedroom and kitchen/living room, and a VIBRANT bathroom which lets you know you are not staying in a run-of-the-mill hotel. As for the terrace, we had plenty of privacy, not easily achieved on a slope with so many terraced rooms. We stayed in a senior suite, which sounds like suite for older people, but actually refers to its position in relation to other suites. I believe (but am not sure) that the senior suites are the least expensive of the truly private suites. Above us were the pool, Jacuzzi and most expensive suites; however they could not see onto our terrace. There was a terrace beside us, from which both parties could see each other. Ours was a little higher, so if we lay down on our sun loungers we could not be seen by anyone! We were also above the public path which cuts horizontally along the slope, so we were also out of view of passers-by (we stayed in suite 403).
If that sounds confusing, think of Santorini as shaped like a large croissant. It has a steep and high inner curve and then a much gentler slope on the other side (outer curve) a cross section of the island would look like an acute triangle. Astra is located in the centre of the inner curve -a rectangle of land from the top to near the bottom of the inner curve. The more expensive rooms are at the top, the more affordable ones nearer to the middle. There is a public path which runs along the middle of the inner curve. Obviously rooms above the path have more privacy, however from what I saw of the lower rooms, Astra has done a very good job of securing privacy for their guests in those rooms as well. Incidentally, that path is the one you will use if you are walking to the nearby towns.
The view is amazing, perfectly positioned for the most beautiful sunsets. For sunrises, you will need to walk up the hill a bit.
Santorini is beautiful; the main town of Fira is also beautiful, but a little touristy for my tastes. It seems to be mostly jewellery shops, restaurants, car/scooter hire shops, and souvenir vendors. I didn't feel like I could learn a great deal about Santorini's local culture there. That is why choosing a beautiful room with great service is the best choice in my opinion. We spoiled ourselves at Astra and spent a lot of time in our suite. It was our honeymoon after all.
Final verdict, Astra is an amazing place to spend a few days that will be etched forever in your memory. A truly breath-taking experience, not cheap, but worth every penny. The people at Astra are masters of their craft and they will ensure you get the most out of your time on beautiful Santorini.

Room Tip: Choose a room above the public path, but rooms below are also shielded from passers-by.

Amazing hotel. The staff were more than accomodating. Their restaurant which does not have a name was romantic and one of the best meals we had in Santorini. We had the Cretan pasta with mushrooms and the Sea Bream which was great. They bring breakfast to your balcony every morning and you pick what you want the night before.
The views are postcards- really impeccable. No need to travel to Oia for the sunsets as it is right in front of you. The hotel is pricey but worth it! We had one of our new favorite drinks at the pool- Spicy Coconut Mojito. For our anniversary they let us use their relaxation room for 2 hours, jacuzzi, sauna, shower- romantic and perfect.
If going to santorini I would definitely consider Astra. Would advise not to bring children here.

A group of 6 of us spent three nights to celebrate my 60th birthday at Astra Suites. My wife and I reserved the lower pool suite which was beyond imagination! Thanks to all the staff for making our stay so memorable. We were served an excellent dinner on our private balcony the night of my birthday. The service, view and food were impeccable! Our visit to Astra Suites was way beyond our expectations. It is difficult to describe how wonderful this property is. Hopefully someday we can return. A special thanks to the two Georges and two Helens. You are wonderful people!

This is a great hotel. From the food, to the staff, rooms, and especially the view. The sunset view is amazing. You won't have to leave your hotel to see the sunset. Or go over to the other side of the Island to see it. It is in Imerovigli, which is the town next to Thera. It is walking distance to the main town. But bring your walking shoes. They have a great restaurant so you don't have to leave if you don't' want to. I have been many times over many years to this island, and once I found this place, I will only stay there.

Room Tip: If you want to stay in the main hotel, I believe the numbers start with 1. We like staying by the po...
