Owner description: Skaros was considered the most important of Santorini's five castle fortresses. The rock was inhabited in medieval times, because the fortress constructed there offered protection from pirates.

The best bit is walking past it on the coastal path. The sense of scale and 3d-ness you get looking down on it when it is so high itself has to be seen to be believed.

“Blue sea and a blue dome”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

A little tricky to find the start but once you have done so it's a short but satisfying walk around what's left of the castle to yet another of Santorin,s 263 blue-domed churches.

“Fabulous place”
Reviewed 14 April 2014

Fabulous hike down and out to Skaros, follow the little path round to the left of the rock and down to the church. A lot of steps, but apart from a tiny section by the rock, there are concreted pathways and steps.

One of the best things that you should do when you visit Santorini. The view from the little chapel behind the big rock is amazing. I reccomend it!!
