“Honeymoon”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

My wife and I searched high and low for an excellent place to spend our honeymoon & Alta Vista did not disappoint. We wanted a quiet place that catered to the romantic island of Santorini. While the place is absolutely fantastic in a quiet area between Fira and Imerovigli, our stay was made that much more incredible by our host George. He went above and beyond anything we could ask for, whether we had a glass of champagne or a large glass of wine to drink while overlooking the caldera.

Make sure you ask George about which restaurants to view the sunset from. We went out several nights & on one occasion left our key in the door to our room. We were fortunate that George was on the lookout because he not only drove the key to the restaurant, he also gave us a ride back to the hotel.

I'm sure you can find many hotels in Santorini that will meet your needs but if you're looking for a beautiful hotel, amazing view and great swimming pool that is basically private due to the hotel only having 3 rooms then this is your place. I also don't think you'll find anyone quite like George who will go out of his way to make your stay the best possible. I usually don't write reviews but I feel it was necessary for us to write this review based solely on how well we were treated by George! We already want to return!

We stayed in the Senses suite early last month (May 14) and loved absolutely everything about this place. First and foremost the views are jaw dropping. Sat right outside our suite we had an incredible view out into the caldera and across to Firostefani, towards Fira. I never got tired of sitting outside enjoying a glass of wine looking out. In fact I’m never one for sitting by a pool on holiday but I actually did this one day as it was such a spectacular setting, it was a shame to go anywhere else.

The location is great – it’s actually on the edge of Firostefani, not Imerovigli. After walking through the latter we realised that we much preferred Firostefani. We were surrounded by great restaurants and taverns, as well as had the convenience of a couple of little ‘mini-market’ shops which stocked grocery items and alcohol, as well as gifts. It’s also less than 20 minutes’ walk to Fira (in fact I think we may have done the walk in little over 10 minutes).

Alta Vista Suites are wonderfully presented. Everything about the place – inside and out – looks just as perfect in real life as it does in the pictures on their website. It’s simplicity meets luxury - our suite was decorated in traditional white and blue, with lovely linens and great amenities (inc. iron, safe, high quality toiletries, hair dryer, robes, fully stocked mini bar).

The service was wonderful and the hotel manager, George, can’t do enough to welcome you (including lugging two very heavy suitcases single-handedly down the steps to the suites!) The maid was lovely – she cooked the delicious breakfasts as well as kept the place in a spotless condition, and always had a smile and a greeting for us. The daily champagne breakfast was fab and was a really nice touch in providing a more upmarket experience.

In the interests of trying to give a balanced review I tried to think of some negatives but struggled to find anyway. However I will highlight a couple of things to consider…They don’t have full room service or a restaurant – there’s literally the manager and the maid, and in the afternoons this young girl took over from the manager for a few hours. A potential downside (although it didn’t bother us) was that the bar menu and the snack/light meal menu was a little limited and, as we went early on the season, they didn’t have everything in. That said, after apologising that they didn’t have the lime for mojitos, they magically appeared 15 minutes later and were given to us complimentary for our first sunset. And when I asked if I could order a glass of red wine (it only appeared to be served by the bottle according to the menu), it was served along with a glass of water and bowl of crisps. And as I mentioned above, there’s plenty of restaurants and cafés just 30 seconds walk away. Another to think about is that the other two suites had private balcony areas, but our room door was right next to the hotel managers office and his door was always open – but he was lovely and couldn’t do enough for us so we didn’t have a problem with that! And we walked right out onto the pool which was a plus for us.

We loved the place and think it was amazing. Everyone should stay at Alta Vista Suites at least once in their lives!

My wife and I took our tip to Greece as a part of our 45 anniversary. We chose this hotel for it's location and views.
The staff extend every opportunity to make sure your stay is to your satisfaction. The slippers and bathrobes make for a nice touch and great way to enjoy breakfast on the terrace overlooking to Caldara. Loved the room, service and morning breakfast.
Made us feel like we were 20 something again not bad for a pair of seniors.
Thank you Alta Vista

Wow! We spent 4 nights of our honeymoon here and absolutely loved every moment. The hotel is a perfect location on the island in firostefani... away from the busy tourists area of Thira but within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. Stunning infinity pool and views!! George and all the staff were wonderful. Highly recommended!

This hotel is the quintessential boutique bed and breakfast - Small (only 3 rooms), traditional charm with all the modern luxurious comforts you need.

The hotel is perfectly located between Fira and Imerovigili with all the amenities close by along the scenic cliff path.

We stayed in the senses suite, which opens directly onto the pool with stunning views of the caldera. The suite was faultless with all the comforts you would expect and more. While it is the smallest room, there was plenty of space, the little snug was lovely, bed very comfortable and showering in a cosy 'cave' was a novel experience.

It is very private and quiet with only 3 rooms making it easy to unwind and relax. While we were there is was very windy but still spent a few afternoons relaxing by the pool looking over the caldera in absolute peace. The pool was freezing and not heated so only went in once but imagine would be great to be able to use to cool down in the summer heat.

The champagne breakfasts were delicious, served in a little cave overlooking the pool and caldera. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the food from the omelettes to the Greek yogurt.

The customer service was excellent. George (Hotel manager) was very welcoming and friendly. He was able to recommend and book restaurants, taxis, and excursions. Nothing was too much trouble and thank him very much.

We would definitely recommend it and would definitely return to the hotel. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Gareth and Katie

We traveled to Greece and island hopped over to Santorini for two days to see this beautiful island! After staying at this place, I wish we would have stayed longer!! There are only three rooms at this resort so it was extremely exclusive!! It was absolutely perfect and the customer service was amazing!!! You get free breakfast with your stay and it is brought to your private villa, just like room service. The infinity pool and views of the ocean are just amazing!! It was truly heaven on earth!! Would definitely recommend and go back!! Can't wait!!

My husband treated me to Santorini for my 30th bday as it was my number 1 to do on my bucket list. Luckily enough he left it up to me to choose the hotel and after trawling trip advisor for hours I decided that all the positive and rave reviews cant be wrong and booked the Alta Vista for 3 nights for our stay at the end of March.
I can honestly say it is the most AMAZING hotel I have ever stayed in, all the photos and views you see of Santorini are right there uninterrupted literally right on your doorstep/private balcony.
We stayed in the honeymoon suite with its private terrace, the room was stylish and spotless and the bed itself a dream to sleep in. The yummy breakfast is served on the balcony each morning at the time of your choosing and the staff are most welcoming and friendly. Thanos, the hotel manager organised our car hire for us(pick up and drop off at hotel) and even hiked up to meet us half way when we got lost and our taxi driver dropped us off at the wrong place on the first day we arrived. Tip: the hotel will email you to offer a transfer from the airport a couple day of days before arrival, take it. we thought we would just get a bus or taxi but for the extra couple euros it will save you lugging your cases up and down the Cliffside. needless to say we def got Thanos to organise the return transfer for us to the airport! Location wise the hotel is a short 10 -15 min walk from the town of Fira. Theres a small market right by the main road to get any supplies or its a scenic walk by the sea to get you into town. I can imagine when it is packed in the summer this will be a nice quiet oasis away from the hustle and bustle but still easily accessible to all you need. The pool is the perfect spot to watch the famous Santorini sunset, we went to Oia to see the sunset the first night but on the second night we realised it was just as beautiful and stunning but without the crowds back at the hotel.
It took us 5 years to finally make it Santorini, but def making sure it wont be that long before we are back and will def be staying here again!! If you want amazing location/view, great personal service and a cool and luxury room than stay here!
