“Peaceful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2012

We, a family of 4, stayed here in July for 1 week. The Old Stones Cottage was extended and the original part of the house contains the 3 small double bedrooms, 1 ensuite and 1 bathroom. The beds were very good quality and very comfy. However the bed linen had a very strange almost sour smell as if it had been line dried beside a bonfire.

The newer extention to the cottage was very sympathetically done and housed a large open plan kitchen, living and dining room with utility room off. Once again all furniture was of high quality and very comfortable. The kitchen was gorgeous and had everything you could need. There was an unlimited supply of peat and we had fires every evening. The 1 acre garden leads down to a stony beach and the scenery is stunning. Sitting out on the occasional evening with a glass of wine was an extremely peaceful experience. The BBQ had seen better days and I was afraid to use it. Needs to be replaced.

The cottage location is good - close enough to shops, pubs and restaurants yet still very private. We toured hugely and looked forward to coming back in the evenings to "our cottage". Portmagee is like a Noddy toytown. Beautifully quaint and clean with two excellent top class restaurants there.

It would be a lovely place for a short break over New Year.

Stayed in these cottages recently and they were only OK. It appeared that they hadn’t been rented for some time. There was a musty smell in the bedrooms with the whole cottage needed a good cleaning and dusting – cobwebs all over, dirty oven, built up grime in bathrooms.
Many of the lightbulbs were not working and the remotes for the TV had no batteries.
There was no instruction on how to operate the cable TV. A lot of small but frustrating things wrong

Located just 3 km from the picturesque village of Portmagee, Portmagee Seaside Cottages is my favorite Co Kerry retreat. The host is service minded and makes you feel welcome. I have stayed here five times in all and when visiting this part fo Kerry, Portmagee Seaside Cottages is the preferred accomodation. Pricing is also affordable. The concept of self catering suits me well! Old Stones Cottage is my favorite cottage after my last stay, but - by all means - the other cottages are great, too!

Stayed at Old Stones cottage with friends and had a terrific time. The cottage leads right down to the see and the views are breath-taking. Portmagee is a very charming little fishing village with some great irish music trad sessions. Lots of sights and attractions to visit such as the skelligs (do not miss the puffins), geokaun mountain, chocolate factory and just the generally beautiful scenery. Cottage was very cosy, especially the open peat fire for sitting around at night. Would highly recommend.
