We, a family of 4, stayed here in July for 1 week. The Old Stones Cottage was extended and the original part of the house contains the 3 small double bedrooms, 1 ensuite and 1 bathroom. The beds were very good quality and very comfy. However the bed linen had a very strange almost sour smell as if it had been line dried beside a bonfire.
The newer extention to the cottage was very sympathetically done and housed a large open plan kitchen, living and dining room with utility room off. Once again all furniture was of high quality and very comfortable. The kitchen was gorgeous and had everything you could need. There was an unlimited supply of peat and we had fires every evening. The 1 acre garden leads down to a stony beach and the scenery is stunning. Sitting out on the occasional evening with a glass of wine was an extremely peaceful experience. The BBQ had seen better days and I was afraid to use it. Needs to be replaced.
The cottage location is good - close enough to shops, pubs and restaurants yet still very private. We toured hugely and looked forward to coming back in the evenings to "our cottage". Portmagee is like a Noddy toytown. Beautifully quaint and clean with two excellent top class restaurants there.
It would be a lovely place for a short break over New Year.
