“Perfection in Tuscany”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2014

A good friend of mine had mentioned and recommended this area (Chianti, Greve in Chianti, Panzano in Chianti) as being a "magic place." After spending 5 days in Panzano and enjoying the breathtaking views of the surroundings, I would say that's an understatement. There are hundreds of bed of breakfast in the area, so how do you choose what you're looking for? Here's what we were looking for: an authentic place ran by authentic people (I don't like to feel like a tourist and everyone in Panzano and especially Guilietta made me feel like a special guest, and at times like a friend). Fagiolari is beautiful, comfortable (some people would call it rustic--this is not a 5 star palace, but you should know that when you're looking for the amazing value of a B&B), quiet and located in the best (in my opinion) area right between Florence (which has become way too touristic for my taste but is still wonderful), and Sienna that has managed to maintain its charm in spite of the popularity it has developed (and the accompanying crowds).
Do yourself a favor, if you're looking for the perfect Tuscan experience, look no further, you found it. Make sure you take day trips to Florence and Sienna as needed, visit the shops and go the markets in Panzano and Greve and if you can take the cooking class with Guilietta, it's really a must and a lot of fun (again, authentic is what comes to mind). Check out the pictures posted, they reflect exactly the atmosphere and vistas.

This B&B sits in a beautiful area down an unpaved road in Panzano and has a pool. The surroundings are breathtaking especially when the sun is shining. We were met by the owner who we felt was a trifle bossy and not helpful and were shown two rooms. One was in the main house, dimly lit, on two levels separated by a few stairs and the other was in a separate cottage that also was very rustic, but clean. The room in the house was right next to a living room in the main building where you could hear people conversing. If you are looking for a pleasant interior, this is not the place to stay. The interior of the house itself was unattractive, but typically Tuscan and charming on the outside (rooms for 90-110 euros per night). Our host was upset when one of the couples came to breakfast through the front down and down some stairs to the breakfast room instead of coming in through a side door. We drove to nearby Passignano to see a lovely old abbey and osteria while enjoying the absolute beauty of the surrounding countryside. We ate at Cantinetta Sassolini (see review) where we had a wonderful, very reasonable meal with excellent service. In the morning, I saw three deer outside the only window in the lower floor of our room where the bed was located. Breakfast at Faggiolari was very good as it should be since the owner is a well-known cook who gives cooking classes (but apparently no meals at the house - go figure). There were some handmade necklaces and jewelry that were apparently made by the host that were very nice and reasonable in price.

For the past several years we have spent time in Tuscany at Fagiolari, near Panzano. This is a wonderful place, in the middle of the Chianti Classsico with good restaurants, vistas to die for, and tremendous wine within close proximity.

My wife and I have recently returned from an 11 day stay at Fagiolari. This is our 5th stay in the past 5 years. This is a special place that is not to be missed. Once you reach the property, sited in the midst of an olive grove and vineyards, you will find an agritourisimo with a very pleasant garden and nicely appointed bedrooms. The property and facilities are fastidiously well maintained. The rooms and common areas particularly clean. No flies or the like around the pool area or the property. Pool area is remarkable with impressive views of the renoun “golden valley” and the Fontodi vineyards. The whole property is very quiet, one hears very little other than the sound of the cicadas and the birds, which help to make this extraordinary place a truly calming and peaceful experience.

In the end, it is the little things that set this property apart from all others and they come from the proprietress. Giulietta Giovannoni has grappled with adversity for nearly 30 years to rebuild a fallen down farmhouse and create the surrounding gardens. This labour of love continues for those who chose to come down the 1.6 kms of “white road” from Panzano. Make the trip, you will not regret it.

This B&B is located in the small town of Panzano in Chianti, about a 10 minute drive from the main road. The highlight is definitely the pool with views over the surrounding vineyards. The water was a little crisp but still lovely. The breakfast was nice too. Unfortunately we couldn't do the cooking course as the owner was away when we were there, but from looking at the recipe book it would be great. We had the Bistecca dinner up at Dario Cecchini's one night which topped off the whole experience!

I can't say enough good things about this charming place. The owner Guilietta is a great cook and wonderful host and her gardens are gorgeous. Loved the wine from her vineyard, too.The rooms were spacious and lovely. I stayed in Room A and the views were beautiful. The bed was supremely comfortable and there was plenty of drawer space and room to hang clothes. The location is perfect for exploring nearby wineries and making day trips to Siena, Florence, and San Gimigniano. Though it was too cold to swim in mid April, I enjoyed sitting by the pool and looking out over the incomparable Tuscan landscape. Very peaceful; the perfect antidote to New York City living. Plan to return often.

Stayed 4 nights at Fagiolari. Quaint rooms, all a bit different, but comfortable and homely. Fantastic views of the local area, and we enjoyed an afternoon sitting by the pool overlooking the beautiful Tuscan valley. Definitely need a car to explore the area. Panzano is a small Italian village with personality and several restaurants. Wonderful Italian country stay.

Room Tip: All rooms are different and well displayed on website. Giulietta will offer suggestions to suit you...
