Ocean View room on a high floor afforded a beautiful view as well as the surf to lull you to sleep. Very conveniently located with parking below (modest fee). Staff was courteous and friendly. Ate one night in the restaurant and would rate this as one of the best meals we had in Spain. Rate included breakfast which was also of the highest quality. If you are in Rota, don't miss this one.

During the week my sister and I stayed in this hotel we had the most complete and comfortable holiday possible. The room was fantastic - better than 'luxury' hotels I have stayed at in the USA - and the location could not have been better. It is right on the beach and in the central part of the town for eating and shopping. I did not expect to find such a great hotel at such an affordable prince. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient and the hotel had everything we could possibly need. We are already planning our next trip to Rota and I would not consider looking for a different hotel. I don't believe it could be bettered. Muchas gracias al Duque de Najera :)

Was on a 1-week business trip with wife. Service was great. Staff spoke English well and were always helpful. Rooms were large and comfortable. Very clean and well maintained. Many restaurants and shops in easy walking distance. Lots of good food to choose from. Great beach next to hotel. Easy to get to ferry to Cadiz and Puerto de Santa Maria.

The Duque de Najera is situated on the Atlantic coast. The beaches are absolutely beautiful and there's a wonderful walkway spanning the beach.

The rooms are very nice. At first I thought the beds were going to be hard, but not at all. I'm one who usually has a hard time adjusting to unfamiliar beds, but I've slept well every night.

The bathroom is huge. There's a large shower that has four showerheads, a separate bath, double sink, bidet and toilet. There's a shelf above the sink that holds all your toiletries with no crowding.

The breakfasts are amazing. They have just about everything one could want, except maple syrup. There is even champagne for mimosas. Their evening buffets are equally amazing. There are tons of options to choose from at the buffet. Nobody should ever walk away hungry at this place. There is an additional restaurant that we haven't gone to because it's a little pricey.

Everybody here has been exceptionally friendly and helpful. I even had one of the staff, who was manning the reception desk, teach me some Spanish.

The only complaint that I really have is there are no microwaves in the room. A small complaint, but we would like to be able to reheat food that we'd taken back to the room.

Overall, this hotel is well worth the money. It's absolutely beautiful and a pleasure to be at.

If you have the luxury of picking your hotel this is the one. It is located in the middle of the historic district and you are waling ditance to any main attraction. You are located at the south end of the beach in the nicest area. The other end of the beach is lower rent and you start getting to the nude beach. (nude beach - mainly gay guys)

• Large with comfy beds. Furniture not a Marriott, but better than most.

• Shower had three jets plus separately one traditional shower head (four in all). Had to abandon the three jets as the water often went from icy to scalding and one of the jets was placed strategically placed to be harmful (be careful). Normal shower head worked fine. Towels large and fluffy. Also a bathtub and two sinks. No individual soaps or shampoos – instead large squirt containers in the shower.

• Very friendly and tried to be available and noticed. They really went out of their way to be helpful.

• Not large, but hardly ever crowded. Ample sun beds and a good pool bar and pool-side resto.

• The pool wasn't crowded because of the great beach just outside the hotel wall. Very clean and well monitored by life guards and beach police who both walked the beach. Often saw the beach cleaners; hard to find rubbish on either the beach of the promenade.

• The hotel beach bar was a bit Spartan, but very good. Quick friendly service.

• Direct access from the hotel to the beach.

• Sun beds on a pay as you need them basis (beach only).

• The buffet resto had theme nights, but catered to Germans (many there). The presentation was excellent and they tried very hard to have a variety of items. Better than most.

• We didn't try the table service restaurant, but it looked good. Normally very empty. It wasn't cheap, but then again, not overly pricy. Could be the guests liked the variety of the buffet better.

• Great place to be. At the harbor within throwing distance of the cathedral and the fort. Harbor on one side of the hotel, very clean beach on the other. Many small squares close by. Maybe it was my timing, but shops were often closed when I was about in the town. The local restos near the beach were a bit disappointing – many smelled like old oil.

• There was an Irish bar outside our window that made it necessary to keep the windows closed (air conditioned was good, so no problem there), but the bar closed at 2:00am. In fairness to the bar, as long as the bar door was closed, the noise was acceptable. When it was open, or when the bar closed and everyone left, it was very loud. This was especially bad as Spain played several nights in the European Soccer Cup when we were there and the soccer enthusiasts stayed in the street outside the bar until 4:00am!! Could have done without that. Ask for a room that doesn't face on the "bar side" of the hotel.

• Parking is available at 9 euros a day – well worth it as there isn't anywhere to park elsewhere. Very secure and safe.

• Internet access free in the room by cable. Don't now if it is wireless.

• Try the ferry from the harbor near the hotel to Cadiz. 30 minute trip. Spend the day in much larger Cadiz and return late afternoon. The kids loved it. But it was roasting in Cadiz.

I'd go to this hotel again in a second.

One disappointing thing about the area. There were several very interesting small villages that we visited only to find that the primary buildings (church, fort, important houses) were closed unless you paid for a village your. The tours had odd hours, so unless you knew in advance, you might have to hang around for several hours waiting. Most of the tours in English were early evening. And again, when we stopped at the villages for lunch, most of the town was shut, as well as the restos (the only opened at night).
