“Fab Holiday”
Reviewed 25 April 2013

Just spent a week here and had a wonderful time. We were very impressed with everything and the value for money was excellent.

The food is excellent at the little pool bar and the staff there are so friendly and helpful, especially Viv who offered to make fussy little veggie me anything I wanted. Happy Hour 4-5 is fab, gets you in the mood for a nice night ahead.

The pool is clean and there are plenty sun loungers for everyone.

The rooms are clean, spacious and the balconies are massive.

No complaints at all and only 5 mins from the beach - cant get much better.

The lovley Amadores beach is a stones throw away. will be back. From Yvonne and Gary who like ORANGE sex on the beach. ( NOT BLUE MEL !!!!! haha)

Room Tip: High room in the 400's gives a good sea view. We were 407

Note: This hotel has also independent reviews as "Apartments Terraza Amadores" although it is the same complex.

Stayed at “Terraza de Amadores” during the first week of April with my wife and 2 young kids and absolutely loved it and my holidays.

Paid less than 300 €/week and the apartment had 1 separate bedroom, a living room with kitchenette, a bathroom and a terrace. Apartments (and hotel) are new looking, clean, spacious and fresh.

Apartment conditions:

The living room had a sofa bed with a pull out draw bed that allowed to sleep 2. We also requested a baby cot. Living room had a flat screen tv (not big variety of stations, basically Spanish - including a Spanish Disney channel but with little cartoons at night - BBC and CNBC were not working well and also some German/Scandinavian stations). The kitchenette area had a microwave, a small fridge, a toaster (a bit too small) a coffee/tea machine, dishes, some basic utensils, pots, frying pan, 2 electric burners. The bathroom had a toilet + shower (no bath tub, no bide). The bedroom had a somewhat large closet and 2 individual beds, joined together. The bedroom and living room each had individual access to the terrace. The terrace had 4 plastic chairs + 2 sun beds and a table. Apartment had no air conditioner but didn’t need it since nights were cool.
Apartments were cleaned every day, except Thursdays and Sundays, toilet paper was changed and garbage taken out but you better bring or buy your own soap, shampoos, detergents for the dishes, etc.
Our apartment was nº 305 on the top floor of the first block facing the street. Rooms were well insulated so didn’t hear any noise from outside with the doors closed. Was a bit worried about too much movement on the road but didn’t really notice it. There was the occasional bus or car but it didn’t really bother me at all. The terrace had a frontal view of the “Great Palace Royal hotel” and a great side view of the ocean and a glimpse of Amadores beach.
Need to leave a deposit for remote control (although we weren’t asked for this) and 10€ per pool towels (this deposit is given back to you when you give back to towels). We asked and paid 20€ for a later check out –until 18h- (this possibility is not guaranteed). They would have allowed us to stay until 13h with no extra cost.

Hotel Grounds/Facilities:

There is 1 working elevator in the hotel (fits 4-5 people). There is a laundry room (didn´t use it) and an amusement area with toys and games for the kids. There was a computer with internet you could use for a fee. There is a SPAR supermarket below it which is open every day but doesn’t have a big variety: good for fresh bread and the basics but no fresh meat or fish, only frozen pre-cooked foods.
Be aware that reception of hotel isn’t always open. It has specific official opening hours: every day from 9:30 to 13:30 and from 14.30 to 18:00, except on Thursdays (from 10h to 13h and from 16h to 18h) and Sundays (from 10h to 13h). There is usually someone afterhours but not guaranteed. There is an emergency number you can call in case of need. Also be aware that to open the main hotel door at night you need to use your room card key. In case your card demagnetizes you can use a code they give you to get in the hotel grounds but you will still not be able to enter the apartment and need to call the emergency number so be careful with cell phones and the demagnetizing of the card keys although we never had any problem with this. Also be sure to let them know in case you have a late arrival/check-in since you might arrive and not find anybody there (I had already been advised by other trip advisor members).
Pool bar grounds and pool are pleasant, relaxing, not noisy. Most of the guests are >50 years old, Scandinavian, English and German so you won’t get much noise (except you stay next to the odd family like ourselves with 2 wonderful but noisy kids ). Pool water was at 25º and easy to get sun beds.

Location of Hotel:

Hotel is about 300m to beautiful Playa Amadores. It is a 5-10 min walk downhill (not a big inclination) to the beach. Beach hammocks cost 3,5€ each and parasols 3 €/each but they are flexible: You could buy a parasol at the supermarket and rent the hammocks or you could even only rent the parasols and lie on the sand with it. On the beach there are many tavernas and places to eat. We usually had pizzas for lunch (you could takeaway). Try “ la Dolce Vita pizzeria”.
In terms of location of the hotel and besides the 5 star Gran Palace Royal (at the same walking distance to Playa Amadores) you only have as options, close to Playa Amadores: the “Gran Amadores hotel” and the “Mirador del Atlântico”. There is also “Amadores beach apartments” located on the beach but this is “time share” apartments and hard to rent. All other hotels are located much further and up a steep hill. I wouldn’t stay in these unless I had a car or unless I were a mountain climber .
At the top of this steep hill (probably 1-2 km from the beach) (near hotel RIU Amadores) you have “Shopping Centre Europa” which also has some restaurants (didn’t eat here) and the only pharmacy of the area.
Besides the above hotels closer to Playa Amadores you will probably only have the “Thalasso Spa Amadores hotel” located on the cliff top between Playa Amadores and Puerto Rico although it has an elevator that leads guests down to the costal walk from Playa Amadores to Puerto Rico. It should then be a 800 m walk from here to Playa Amadores.

Weather:

In terms of weather beach was best from 11h to 17h. Before and after this it was a bit cool. At night and in the shade temperatures would vary between 20-22ºC but it would only get unpleasant if windy (which it was at times). In the sun (usually from 11h to 17h) temperatures would go up to 26-27ºC. Ocean water temperatures varied between 19º C and 21º C throughout the week.

Eating/Dinner options:

If you are on foot, for dinner, you have the Playa Amadores tavernas or Puerto Rico. I wouldn´t walk to Puerto Rico at night unless I did it with a large group since it gets pretty dark and empty at night. It should also be a tiring and unpleasant walk if windy for young kids. You could also use the pool bar of the hotel but I only used it once and no more: I asked for an expresso coffee one day and was given a “nescafe” in a small cup. That was it for me, although the main reason I didn’t try eating here was because mornings and evenings were cool and didn’t seem very pleasant to eat outside. The pool bar/pool area is also somewhat windier than the beach area.
In our case we decided to rent a car (through “CICAR rent-a-car-internet site”: For 150 €/week got the new Opel Astra, with extra driver, 2 child seats, and full insurance -no deductible - besides saving on transfers this enabled us to have more dinner options). We didn’t like Playa Amadores or Puerto Rico as dinner options that much so ended up having most of our dinners at beautiful Puerto Mogan. Here you will find the most romantic tavernas in the area (reminding you a bit the Greek islands tavernas). It is the best area for dinner. I could suggest “La Lonja” on the main square (try the paella and house wine) with great price/quality. In Puerto Rico we also had dinner and enjoyed the “La Molino of the El Greco hotel “ - located on the right side of the bay (facing the ocean). Besides having good price /quality and great service these restaurants were reasonably spacious and well sheltered which we privileged since we were travelling with a baby and a child and, as mentioned, nights were cool in April. Most other restaurants didn’t offer such conditions.

Other Rooms (check also pics uploaded):

-My room (nº 305) is located on the top floor of the first block of apartments which is parallel to the street that leads to Amadores Beach. I would say my room had the 2nd best view of the hotel and would assume that room 306 (next to mine and located at the tip of this block of apartments) would have the best view to beach, ocean and pool. (Note: no room has frontal view to the beach: they all have side views to the ocean and a glimpse of the Playa Amadores beach).
-On my floor there is room 306 (tip closer to beach and pool) to 301 (tip closer to parking lot uphill). Not sure if 301 has view of the beach (maybe a bit of the ocean but not sure about the beach).
-Below were rooms 206 to 201 and below this 106 to 101. I would figure rooms closer to the beach (206) would have better views than the ones closer to the parking lot (201) but not even sure 206 has view of the beach/ocean. Rooms 206 to 201 are located closer to street level and over a“SPAR” supermarket and terraces are closer to the street.
-On the other hand rooms 106 to 101 have terraces facing the opposite direction of the above and are located on the pool level (106 closer to the pool). These rooms aren’t bad considering they only have view to the pool grounds (not of the pool) but the terraces have direct access to the pool and pool bar area although less private.
-Terraces facing the street (201 to 306) get afternoon sun and the ones facing the pool area (101 to 106) get later morning sun.
- On the second block of apartments you have rooms 107 to 113, then 207 to 213, 307 to 313, 407 to 413, all facing the hotel pool area and the beach/ocean (although some of these might get the beach/ ocean view blocked by the first block of apartments or by “hotel Gran Amadores” (located downhill) which might block the view of the apartments located closer to the pool (113, 213, 313, 413). Of course, in this second block, views get better as you go up although I do not think these will have better views than 306, 305, etc…(I have a map of the hotel I could send if you wish). Note that on this second block rooms 107 to 113 are not on the pool level as are rooms 101 to 106. Second block apartments get afternoon sun with the higher floors getting later sun.

Overall:

Overall I consider this to be the best hotel, considering its price, location and comfort, in the Playa Amadores area. Would advise however to rent a car for better dinner options and to avoid transfer costs. Would definitely go back to this hotel and Playa Amadores.

Room Tip: 305, 306 High floor

The hotel is situated perfectly, not far from the beach or Puerto Rico. The staff is helpful, and the rooms are big enough. A bit "cold" at the pool or the terraze before the sun came around 11.a.m.and after 18.pm. A bit trafficsounds from the side over the SPAR shop, but quiet in the other building. Pool is perfect, did a lot of swimming, an d also at the beach- Amadores beach i s THE BEST!

Room Tip: The rooms opposite the SPAR shop building i s much more quiet!

I've been going to the canaries now for 27 years and I can remember when there were no hotels or appartment blocks in Puerto Rico and no one had even heard of Amadores,
So i have stayed in numerous hotels and self catering appartment blocks and hotels including the Gloria Palace and the Terraza mar and we always stayed in the Puerto Rico or PLaya del Ingles area. so last year we went down to amadores beach for the day and we fell in love with the place, so Chilled and calm in comparision to the other hot spots
We talked about booking a place in Amadores on our next trip, so we looked online and choose the Terraza Amadores,.
How Lucky were we to click onto this place, it is so good I booked it for next year before we left, Its so lovely and its such great place to stay that I think Its the best that we've ever stayed in,
the Spanish staff are so helpful and courteous, but even better are the english and one spanish pool bar staff are just the best and I'm going to go on about them now but its things like good service that make a holiday, So to Tracy, Mel ,Toni Viv, but Especially Jackie, and toni's boyfriend who i cant remember his name but he is a lovley chap we say thanks for being lovely hosts at the pool bar. the Appartments are big and the cleaning staff do a wonderful job cleaning every day except mondays I think, towels changed very regulary too . Look I could go on and on but the best thing to say about any place is weather you would go back? well I can honestly say I would never stay anywhere else in gran canaria again . End Of Story.
