Balcon Del Mar was way better then I'd expected it to be. I was gutted to learn the Hotel will be shutting later this year, apparently due to lack of custom as it is "4km from the beach". In my opinion most hotels require a taxi journey to the beach as they are built into the hillside and although only a stones throw from a beach as the crow flighs the roads meander down resulting in a good walk. Back to the hotel.... for the price the apartments were very well presented with a decent sized bedroom and in a seperate area off the lounge there was a sofa bed. The balcony was huge, easily big enough for a drinking session with our four friends who also stayed at Balcon. There were to swimming pools each with a toddler pool but don't rely on the pool bar as it has inconsistent opening times due to the hotel being so quiet. A nice touch was the hotel providing each room with a bottle of water in the fridge ready for your arrival. We were also given a room to get showered and changed in on our last day as we had an evening flight. Puerto Rico night life is pretty good but you get pestered by Lucky Lucky men, there were more here then anywhere else i've visited! My top tip is find Bar Caribe for your first few beers, its a small place just past Snoopys 1.5 euro a pint it would be rude not to.

We have just returned from the Balcon.

The apartment was nice and large with two bedrooms and lovely large terrace. The kitchen was well equiped, with kettle, toaster, microwave, the only thing missing was a bottle opener! So take on with you or pay €8 in the hotel shop.

The heated pool was lovely, the warmest outdoor pool we've ever been in. The other pool was way too cold brrrrr. Try not to miss the happy hour at the pool bar 4-5pm and 7-9pm, its buy one get one free. This comes in handy as the drinks in the resort are quite expensive. Don't shop at the Netto supermarkets, they are a total rip off. There's a decent size Spar near Amadorres beach, which is a nice walk down (not so nice on the way back).

We ate several times at the El Basero in the Europa which is great, they do the biggest T-Bone steak I've ever seen. Also Bistro Salsa was very good at Amdorres beach.

We liked the position of the Hotel as it nice and quiet but not far from the bars if you wanted that.

We would not hesitate to return.

We stayed in Balcon del Mar apartments for one week in January. The apartment was spacious, bright, modern and clean. It had a big balcony and the kitchen was well stocked with utensils. It was possibly a little cold in the evening (January). The location is at the top of a hill therefore a degree of fitness is required. Puerto Rico is a nice spot however there is a shortage of nice eating places. Every place sells the same food with little variety. On the whole - ideal place if you're looking for some winter sun.

this was the our third visit to puerto rico and each time we have stayed in the europa area this was by far the best apartments that we have stayed in on all of our recet holidays. we stayed on floor two which looks out over the amadores valley the room had two bedrooms of a fairly large nature and the living room/kitchen was plenty big enough and very spacious balconies.every thing you need for a self catering holiday is supplied, we did have a problem with our boiler which kept tripping out but this was fixed very quickly.rooms were cleaned five times a week and done very well by very cheerful cleaners reception staff very helpful and cheerful aswell.very quiet during the week which is what we wanted warmed up a bit at the weekends when what appeared to be locals arrived. very good pool areas and pool bar.will definately be returning next march

Stayed in the Balcon in late 2008 and returned in early March 2009 because we liked it so much. Because it is relatively new it is in a much better condition than all of the other apartments we have stayed in, in the Europa area which have not been upgraded. I agree with all the other comments made about the complex so no need to repeat them but I hope that Servatur who run the complex keep it in good condition. The receptionist Magela was again very friendly and helpful with a good sense of humour and given some of he others we have come accross in other places she is a breath of fresh air. I agree that the pound/euro has made things much more expensive and we ate in more this time than previously. But we had a really relaxing time and staying at the Balcon contributed to that.

we arrived at the balcon del mar and it looks lovely from the outside. We checked in very smoothly and reception staff were really nice.
Our room was overlooking the pool so it was very nice. Inside the room was 2 bedrooms bathroom with shower and toilet, a living area and a kitchen with everything you needed.
Rooms are very clean and the maids come in and do a good job.
You have to patio doors one in the living area and one in the bedroom which i thought was great.
We are a family with 2 kids one age 14 and one 6 there was no entertainment at this hotel just a pool bar which was very nicely run and we have no complaints what so ever but it was very quiet as there was nothing for the children to do a pool table near the bar, ok we did go in low season so maybe in july august it may be different (but i did enjoy the peace).
Pool area kept really clean and tidy and my son loved the heated pool he was in it all day every day, there is also another pool which no one used as it was a bit on the cold side.
The weather was great lovely and sunny everyday except one day when it was cloudy, but it did get a little chilly at night and you needed a jacket also you needed to use the covers in the room to put on the bed as it was chilly in there but dont get me wrong it was nothing like the british weather!!
The hotel was a little far out for me if you wanted to go the centre at the bottom you needed to get a taxi so it was a bit expensive but there is a small centre near the hotel.
A good place to eat is flicks very good breakfasts and the owner tony is a very nice man.
All in all a very relaxing holiday and i would defo reccommend this hotel to anyone as i do like a good hotel, but us a family would prefer somewhere a little nearer to the town so we wont be returning also the entertainment was non exsistant even a little background music would of been nice.

We have just spent 10 days at the Apartments. They are spacious, clean & well equiped. There are plenty of sunbeds to go round & the Pool Bar is great. Lucy, Brian & Sue are very welcoming/friendly, the food is very nice. Can highly recommend the salads & breakfasts. This is one of the best holidays i've had in Gran Canaria, due to the location being ideall, a few Euros in a Taxi into Town, the weather was lovely & the accommodation was perfect. Very nice places to eat are: Don Quixote's, Maria Latinas, Oscars (all on the Marina). In the Europa: San Miguels & Pinochios. If you are non smoking you will notice the difference with people smoking in Resturants, this can be a bit off putting, especially in some of the smaller Resturants.

Would definately recommend going to the Balcon Del Mar for a relaxing break in the sun, where it's quiet during the day & you can get to the Marina easily in a Taxi in minutes.
