We stayed at the Hotel Guanabara Park, Puerto Rico for two weeks in May 2010. The location of these apartments is approximately 1 mile from the main beach in Puerto Rico up the hill at the back of the resort, so may not be suitable for those with walking difficulties or young children - although a taxi from the from the main shopping centre is only €3.50.
Personally, I found the location of these to be very good, with excellent views over the resort and down to the harbour from the pool, and the majority of the rooms the same view too.
The pool area was very nice too, always kept clean and with a good sized pool and more than enough sunbeds for the resort.
The rooms were in good working order, with maid service every other day. They had a little kitchenette area with a two-ring cooker, fridge, table and chairs and cutlery, pots and pans if you wanted to eat in the room. We didn't eat in, opting to eat out as there are a great selection of restaurants in the resort to cater for all tastes and budgets.
The bedroom was separate, consisting of two single beds, a bedside cabinet and enough storage space for two people for the two weeks.
The bathroom was clean, and warm water was never an issue although it was refreshing to have a cold shower after a full day in the sun!
All the staff onsite, from the maids to the barman/ receptionist were very friendly and always appreciated it when you tried a little Spanish with them - in fact just about everyone in the resort appreciated it! At one restaurant (Restaurante el Gaitero) one of the waiters thought I was living over in Spain due to my half decent attempt at ordering off the menu in Spanish - although I have to admit his English was way better than my Spanish.
A couple of good bars to recommend are Rocky's Bar, located at the small shopping centre down the hill from the Guanabara. It was always a pleasure to have a drink in here on an evening and the breakfasts were excellent.
The Hot Spot was also a good bar to have a drink, and they would show pretty much all the football that was on (English & Spanish), with a board outside informing which games were on.
The main shopping centre had a great selection of bars and restaurants too. The Royal Oak had a good quiz suitable for all every other night. Dicey Reilly’s was another great bar, with live music every night.
I would also recommend a day trip to Puerto de Mogan, which you could get to on the Lineas Blue Bird ferry from the harbour. There was a market at Mogan every Friday with loads of different stalls. Return trip was only €10 per person. You could also get the ferry to Arguineguin or Anfi.
All in all, our two weeks spent at the Guanabara Park were an excellent, relaxing vacation. Anyone thinking of booking this hotel I would recommend it.
