Very good service and food. Just know that it is not really cheap, but worth your money!
We recommend it and we will come back for more highlights!

Tucked away on the hill above Puerto Rico beach, the Taberna offers high quality cooking, delightful service and a very relaxed and different ambiance. The exterior of the building is very unprepossessing but inside the owners have created their own magic medieval world. The chef is Swiss, his wife Austrian and the excellent food they produce is in the Swiss artisan tradition of doing simple things to a very high level. We went twice in a week and thoroughly enjoyed both the food and the occasion.

We went here, my wife & another couple, on a couple of recommendations we had received for this restaurant before we came to Puerto Rico on holiday. As said in at least 1 previous review, you wouldn't find this place too easily, so a taxi is probably the best option (and local taxis are quite cheap, so no harm). Having been told that it was imperative to make a reservation, we did, but we were surprised to find when we arrived at 7pm (admittedly relatively early for dinner) that the place was almost empty. Our host soon advised that June/July are actually their quietest months and they in fact close for August, while the winter months are extremely busy when they go from a total staff of 2 in Summer to 8 for the busy months!

Our host was really nice, very welcoming and made us feel instantly comfortable as we sat into our 'cave' :-) The menu was very tempting with good choice while not having so many options that would make it hard to choose. Two of us went for Prawns sautéed with mushrooms in a filo pastry basket, with the other two having Carpaccio of Tuna. the prawn dish was just stunning and those that had the Tuna were also very pleased! For main, two of us shared the Chateaubriand, another had the lamb and another had the fillet steak. All dishes were sublime but being best able to comment on the Chateaubriand, I can say it was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. The way it was served was also fantastic, with out host plating up for us at our table. All the accompaniments were also fantastic, as was the red wine we shared.

One of our party was celebrating a birthday, and having informed our host they put together a very impressive birthday dessert sharing plate for the 4 of us. Everything about this meal was excellent and a fantastic experience, we're still talking about it! I'm not exaggerating when I say we would come back to Gran Canaria just to revisit this restaurant! Do yourself a favour and go here :-)

Take a taxi or you will never find it. Built, like a lot of homes on the island are, into a cave, the food is very good, on a smallish menu.
It may have been a busy night but the service was too slow for us.

We got told about La Taberna from a local couple we got speaking to at the beach, they highly recommended it, we were staying at an all inclusive resort but thought we'd venture out, so glad we did, we ended up eating here two nights in a row, the food was out of this world, if u go you have to try the the tapas meal, it's 20 courses long, it takes time though, but it's very much worth it, and great value for money and to top our experience of, Katirenia who served us both nights couldnt have been more welcoming........top restaurant all round. Happy customers.
