Cheap and cheerful, stayed here many times, food isn't luxury but definitely edible and varied, the rooms are basic but comfortable, amazing views from the rooms out across the resort!

Just got back from a week at the Colina Mar and I have to say we loved it! Read loads of bad reviews on here and to be honest panicked - I wondered why the hell we'd booked this 'awful' place. What a load of rubbish!

Staff - ALL were friendly, never any problem at all.

Food - was fresh and hot (we went all inclusive). The thing people aren't realising is the food cannot cater for everyones taste but we all found something to eat every day and you could not fault the quality of it. Breakfast the best meal of the day - cereals, pastries, smoothies, yoghurt, cooked breakfast, cold meats, fresh rolls, fruit, juices etc. Lunch - fresh salad, chips (appeared every day), hot dogs, burgers, pasta dishes etc. Dinner - turkey, pork, beef, etc with vegetables, pasta dishes. Desserts - weren't great to be honest, mainly mousse type things, ice cream (which was lovely) and fruit. As we went all inclusive we got 50% off the smack menu, pizza and BBQ night. Two big fresh pizza ended up costing just 5.50 euros, and the bbq on a tuesday night was beautiful and highly recommended.

Beer served in glasses from the freezer, served quickly and efficiently at the bar. What more can you ask for? The kids (6 and 2) had a great time, the main pool we stayed around the most was very clean and would always see people cleaning in first thing in the morning. The smaller pool was a little dingy if im honest but none the less still clean. Floor very very slippy when wet, the younger boy slipped a few times, but learnt to walk slower.

Rooms - very clean, we stayed in room 107 which was near the bar, noise didnt bother us. Maids cleaned 5 out of 7 days, even did our washing up! Beautiful views over Puerto Rico. Slighty rust in bath, it was still clean though!

Entertainment - new man Jason had started the week before we came I think. He was a little arrogant if im honest, and the stuff he was doing seemed a bit geared up for adults rather than kids, but there were so many kids there they all made friends and played by the pool tables or kicking a ball around. They had a snake show one night and a magic act the other, which all the kids loved though.

Location - brilliant. Next to the Europa center, easy enough to walk to with a couple of minutes but away from the hustle and bustle of the commercial center down the bottom.

Tip: Eat at 'Restaurant Gran Canaria' on Puerto Ricos beach front - beautiful!

All I can say is dont believe reviews because there are some people you can never please no matter what!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the main pool - much easier to get to places

We were originally booked to stay at The Bablu Apartments but Thomas Cook outbooked us. We were very wary about staying at the Colina Mar due to all of the 'not so positive' reviews. However we absolutely loved it! It's definitely not 5* accomodation. But it's clean and tidy and located in a great location. Every single member of staff on reception was absoulutley brilliant. The reviews I read about them before about them being miserable were absolute rubbish! We went self catering. Money was very tight for us, so we took the basics with us like butter, ham, biscuits, crisps, pasta, tea bags, cereal etc. The apartment had a microwave, toaster, kettle, and 2 hobs. We stayed in room 429. We were lucky because we were away from the restaurant and hotel bar so for us we weren't affected by any noise from the hotel etc. The view from the balcony was amazing. No words can descibe how brilliant it was over looking Puerto Rico. Perto Rico was very lively and often the centre didn't close until 4am. Although Colina Mar is situated on the top of the cliff, you can hear the noise from the Shopping Centre at the bottom of the Cliff, but it didn't bother us or ruin our holiday. There is no air conditioning in the hotel. But there was a fan in the room that was very useful. A safety deposit box cost us 26 euros for 2 weeks & 6 euro deposit. We only actually hired the tv in our 2nd week. It had a few freeview channels, sky news, bbc1, itv & channel 4. It cost 10 euros for 1 week to hire. There were 2 swimming pools at the hotel. We spent most of our time by the large pool. The smaller pool was much more quieter. The large pool was very clean and was cleaned every evening. The rooms were cleaned 12 days out of the 14 we were there and the bed sheets were changed once. The entertainment in the hotel wasn't anything fantastic. But the drinks were very cheap. Cocktails were only 2.50 euros! Mojitos only 2euros! The Europa Centre was only a 2 minute walk away. Full of Bars and some shops. The Supermarket in there was where we found best value for money. Chill Bar is a great bar to be in. The owner Mike is a big Leeds fan and showed all the football matches! Mambos bar was another favourite of ours. The owners are a couple of great guys in there that will really look after you. A pint of Amstel is only 2 euros and 2 long drinks and mixers were 5 euros. Barbocoas was also another good bar / restaurant. However because they provide entertainment, we found the drinks very expensive. We also ate in there one lunch time and were hoping to put it on our credit card. However we discovered after eating that they only take card payments when you spend OVER 30 Euros! I found this a little bad. If you do go along, make sure you go see Michael Jackson! It will freak you out how much of a double he is. From Colina Mar down to the beach it is a very steep walk down! Infact it's impossible to walk - it's more like a slide down! We did it once and it took about 40 minutes! After that we either got the bus from outside the Babalu Apartments which was 90cent per person one way or a taxi was approx 3euro 50 and there is a taxi rank right outside the Europa Centre. We weren't bothered by any time share people at all and didn't even see any. Amadores beach is a definite must! Don't leave without visiting it! We also did a glass bottom boat trip to Port Mogan. Fridays is there market days and you can pick up some right bargains! I would definiteley go back to Colina Mar if I was on a budget again. It's excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Fourth Floor was the highest level. We were in room 429 and it was perfect.

Just back from a week here with my partner. We were very nervous after reading some of the reviews but after speaking to a friend our minds were set at ease, he said it's grand, basic but great. And that's exactly what it is. It's got nice sized apartments, a well spread out complex and a handy minimarket and washing machines. There's 2 good sized pools and amazing views. It is not by any means a luxury resort and from what we heard you're best not to go all inclusive as the food looked and apparently was disappointing (I think a lot of the bad reviews on here are from disappointed all inclusive customers, and also from people who just had a bad luck experience with idiots ruining the complex for everyone which can happen anywhere). There were some ants in the kitchen as reviews said but if you use your common sense and don't leave glasses of juice and food around they're not really a problem. The Europa centre is a two minute walk and has lovely bars and restaurants and a taxi downtown to the main resort is only €3.50 so you can't go wrong!! Also a general tip for Puerto Rico - go to Amadores beach it is AMAZING, its about a half hour walk from the complex and WELL WORTH IT, it's the most gorgeous water I've ever swam in and the sand is lovely and I'm not usually a beach person!! Also check out M'n'M's bar in the main centre - cheapest drinks in the town 90c pints and 1.50 alcopops ;-) So If you want a cheap and cheerful holiday base to explore from this is the place to stay in Puerto Rico :-) If you want luxury and want to spend most of your nights in the complex, go elsewhere!

Room Tip: Try get a room away from main pool if you're an early sleeper, we were night owls so noice wasn...

Just back from one week stay here, apartments were small but very clean and tidy. Two nice pools, restaurant and a very reasonably priced bar.
Shopping centre near by, fair walk to the main town or beaches but a taxi cost 2-3e during the day.
Would go back, great value for money.

We have just returned from 2 weeks staying in the Colina Mar apartments. We were very worried after reading some of the reviews on here but there is no need to be!
Yes the apartments are basic but they are spotlessly clean and we had maid service 10 days out of 14. All rooms have a TV but you have to pay to hire the remote control. This costs 20 euros for 2 weeks or 10 euros for 1 week. There are 2 washing machines and 2 dryers situated on the 3rd floor which cost a couple of euros each and you can hire an iron and ironing board free of charge.
I cannot comment on the meals as we stayed self catering but we used the snack bar at the small pool quite a lot. The food was good quality and reasonably priced.
We prefered to use the small pool as the sunbeds were more comfortable and it was less crowded. Both pools were cleaned regularly during our stay.
All in all we had a great holiday and i would definately stay here again!

Room Tip: some of our group were on the 2nd floor which experienced a lot of noise from the disco bar and was...
