Stayed here with my boyfriend
We found it a lot better than the lara apartments at least it had night time entertainment
On the all inclusive drinks flow and they aren't tight at serving you
Food can be repetitive but is edible there is far worse all inclusive s on the island . . . Would we go back ? Probably yes

My flatmate and I headed out to Colina Mar with the expectation of being unimpressed but we were delighted with it's facilities, staff and atmosphere.

Upon arriving we were slightly concerned with how far up the steep hills we were, but after being extremely well received at reception (we were given many maps and lots of information about the surrounding area and the hotel), the receptionist informed us that is was 3-4 euros to get down to the Puerto Rico beach/ city centre or the Amadorez Beach on the other side, as the Colina Mar is right in the middle of the two. Furthermore, there also is a staircase which heads down the side of the hill directly to the Puerto Rico beach which we used a few times!

The room we were in was 107 which is the floor just above the pool, restaurant and pub area. We had no issues with noise as we tended to go to sleep around 12pm (rather boring but we weren't there to party). The only issue I had with our stay was that the window in our bedroom wouldn't lock (as it was broken). However, there was no way anyone would be able to get in, due to the two-storey drop outside it, so we weren't bothered about it. Also the fan in the room saved us! It was quite warm at night and no breeze came in through the window. We probably wouldn't have been able to sleep without that fan.

The entertainment that was provided went on all through the day, aimed primarily at kids and families, but was a good laugh for those who just wanted to watch and not get involved. The man who was the entertainer was fantastic and did a really good job of talking to all the guests, learning names and creating a lively and friendly atmosphere.

There are two pools at the Colina Mar. Both have lots of pool loungers and a bar. The main pool is also the noiser/family pool which is by the main restaurant/buffet eating area and the slightly smaller pool is on a lower level. Both have a limited number of umbrellas and we found it annoying trying to get seats with umbrella due to folk "reserving" seats even when the hotel's policy says reserving is not allowed.

I cannot exaggerate how nice the staff were (that I met and interacted with). Even though a few don't speak English fluently they do endeavour to give you their best service. We went for the all inclusive and actually found that the selection of food on offer is pretty good. There tended to always be lots of salad, bread, some chips, a more international option and a more Spanish/local option, but what I'd recommend would be the little sponge cakes at the dessert area at dinner. They were fantastic and I'm sure I ate near 50 of them while I was there. The only issue with meal times was that there were lots of cats that begged at the tables. The hotel has signs up telling folk not to feed them and even told some people off for giving them left overs. The cats would not be there if they were not getting food from tables. The hotel does feed them cat food, out of cat feeding bowls, and I think that it's so silly that people are giving them extras which is causing this learned behaviour.

The hotel also has a really good shop on the 4th floor (underneath reception) where you can buy lots of food, snacks, suncream, hats and drinks, along with lots of other nicknacks. There is also a shopping centre nearby where there is also a taxi rank. In the reception you can use the hotel's wireless for free as the password is provided on a sign, which I thought was really handy.

After searching for a low cost holiday for our little family of 3, we are so pleased that we have come across this lovely resort!

Location: it is high up in the hill, however there is a shop located in the 4th floor. Or a 2 mins walk to some shops and a small supermarket. Taxi to town was only less than 5 euros (each way).

Room: lovely sea view, decent size apartment, modern and clean regularly (bed change every other day, clean room everyday). However, extra costs for use of safe and TV.

Food: a good selection of dishes (not large but certainly plentiful) and a great selection of drinks (they serve Pepsi!!). My husband is a fussy eater, and he was impressed with the choices and most importantly they taste great!!! 50% off for cocktails, branded drinks and a la carte.

Entertainment: Victor (the entertainer) was a one man band, he was absolutely brilliant. He takes time to greet all guests everyday and organise activities throughout the day. 8-9pm kids club, which was popular with young children (4 y/o and above) and kids can use the stage and props during the day (which was nice for our 2 y/o, as it does get too hot in the afternoon). 9-10pm entertainment shows for all ages (not to everyone's tastes). 10pm onwards: bingo, quizzes etc

Pool: clean, plenty of sun beds. There are 2 big pools + 2 kids pools.

We were surprised how lovely this place was, and would recommend to anyone and will definitely return in the future.

Note: we paid extra for a bigger room as we have a 2y/o, however the apartments are the same (after seeing my in laws and friends' rooms). So I won't pay extra for a sea view or an upgrade to an apartment.

Stayed here recently with my wife, the food was good the alcohol selections on the all inclusive were great and the customer service from each member of staff was very very good they really go out of their way to laugh and joke with you and make your stay very pleasant.

The hotel is quite a walk from the beaches however taxi prices are very reasonable (just over 3 euros) to the beach and surrounding areas, the views were fantastic and it was just a generally very nice place.

If we were to ever visit gran canaria again we would definitely come back here.
