Colina Mar Apartments
Ranked #23 of 68 Hotels in Puerto Rico
Reviewed 10 April 2007

On first arrival we were pleased with Colina Mar as we were only there for the Easter Break. We had taken my parents (my father is disabled) and our rooms were near each other. This break was to surprise my daughter (who lives and works in Puerto Rico) our granddaughter was one on the day we arrived.
On the second day our bathroom started to flood, into the living room and bedroom we reported it and had to ask them again to come immediately as we could not get the water out of the door quite enough.
We were moved to a different apartment with was in another block, which was ok for ourselves but not for my parents.
The room was dirty so we reported this and was told it would be cleanded. It still had not been cleaned three days later!!! we had no clean towels all the time we were there, My parents had clean ones nearly everyday.
On leaving one of the lifts was not working with no notice put on the doors and we waited nearly 15mins to get to reception with our baggage. We never even received an apology.
I have been going to Puerto Rico for the last 10 years sometimes three times a year and never been treated like this

We arrived at the Colina Mar at 2:30 a.m. Reception service was fast and efficient with a 24 hour service. The room was clean, tidy, spacious and had a fantastic view.
As we were half-board, we ate frequently at the buffet-style breakfasts and evening meals. Both had a wide range of choice to suit all needs. (Got to try the ice-cream!) The dining area was spacious with a good atmosphere.
We occassionally went to watch the entertainment. Although we're not sure if it improves in peak season, it wasn't anything to boast about.
The resort has two swimming pools; a larger, busier pool and a smaller, quieter pool. Both were clean with free sun lounges. The Colina Mar is east facing and quite high up the side of a hill, the view from which is fantastic. It is less than a five minute walk from the Europer centre which has plenty of shops, restaurants and evening entertainment. Although the Colina Mar is high up a hill, the local taxi services are reasonable. The beach is a 45 minute walk away.
Overall, we found that this resort catered for all of our needs, with a very laid back atmosphere and an amazing view.

Just got back from the Colina Mar and had another great time.
This is the seventh time that my family and I have stayed here.
A lot of things have not changed much since we first went in 1993 although ths year there was a distinct change in the entertainments. There is still a different show on each night but we felt the quality of these shows has fallen. Mind you we went for a drink in the Barbacoa (Europa Centre) and the singer on there was not much more than a Kareoke whailer. (Maybe the standards are dropping all round). On one night the Colina Mar had a guy on who was billed as a Robbie William tribute singer. They must have got mixed up with Robin Williams (Shazbat!).
Christina, the entertainments girl worked hard and was full of life. She always had a smile on her face, was great with the kids and did her best to get people involved. I don't know why but once the show was over the bar became almost empty with only a few regular faces remaining.
A lot of work had been done around the complex with new handrails around the place. Pedestrian walkways had been maintained and draft excluders were put under the front doors. (To keep the cockies out?). The apartments had been renovated with new kitchen cupboards, tables, sets of drawers and furnishings. They did require re-decorating and also a number of areas around the complex needed a lick of paint.
We didn't eat much at the resturaunt only having one evening meal and one breakfast. No problems. But we did find an excelent resturaunt facing the Europa Centre called Picasso's and a great steakhouse down in the commercial centre called Las Vegas. (Big dinners!). We also eat at a Chinese place at the far end of the commercial centre, (toward the water park), top floor. All ou can eat for less than 6 euros. Great if your on a budget or have a big family. The food was great and you cant beat a Chinese.
The staff were freindly. We did not like the view from our apartment so we asked for a change with a pool view. They were more than accomadating and arranged a diffrent one the next day. We also hired the TV for the two weeks at 3 euos a day. We had a problem with the ariel cable but the maintenance guy came around as soon as we reported it and fixed it.
Natter the barman is a great guy to get to know and was as fantastic as ever.
I used the Colina Mar as a base to play golf from. There are a number of courses on the island now and two 9 hole courses just 5 minutes outside the resort. Anfi Tauro has a 9 hole par 3 course and a 9 hole championship course. I played the championship course. 85 euros for 18 holes is expensive but the greens are the best on the island. I also played Solobre and Maspalomas a couple of times. I would advise you to hire a car as they are a distance from the resort.
All in all it was a good place to use as a base for the two weeks. Its not as cheap as it use to be but average compared to the prices in the Europa and Commercial centre.
A gret place for a base or for famalies with young kids.

I stayed here and really enjoyed it. Value for money was brilliant. The hotel is a 2 miniute walk from a lively shopping centre which has some nice places to eat and drink on a evening. The views from the hotel were amazing. Although the hotel may benefit from a slight refurb I really enjoyed myself and it was clean and tidy. Staff were polite and friendly. Puerto Rico was amazing and I would definately return, go and enjoy!
