Myself and six of my friends jetted off to Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria for seven days last week. We stayed in the (highly underrated) Monte Verde Apartments, and overall we had a great stay! We had one 1 bedroom apartment and one 2 bedroom apartment. The 2 bedroom apt was the nicer of the two, it has to be said, although the 1 bedroom apt. was still absolutely fine. We had three people staying in the 1 bed, as there was a sofa bed (of sorts) in the living room. If you are staying in these apartments, I would advise you to split everyone up differently so that 5 are in the 2 bed apt. and 2 are in the 1 bed apt., it'd be less cramped.
The cooking facilities in the apartment were better than we expected them to be having read some dodgy reviews. We had two pots and a pan to be precise, and a stove. A toaster and kettle came with the apartment free of charge, but you had to rent other items like a microwave if you wanted them. Same goes for hairdryers. Air conditioning was €20 per apartment per week. If you plan on doing a totally self-catering holiday, you might be underwhelmed by the cooking facilities. Items such as garlic crushers, for instance, weren't available.
The location of the apartment was absolutely excellent- very near main shopping centre and beach. The local supermarket was a two minute walk away, and was very well stocked. Food and drink is extremely cheap over there, including alcohol! The shopping centre is tacky but adequate. We really only ate in two restaurants; Portero Steakhouse (which isn't a steakhouse) and Mau Mau Pizzeria. Mau Mau was perfect for us, and there were always plenty of people there. In terms of nightlife in the shopping centre, it varied greatly from night to night. We went out on Monday and Wednesday, and some of my friends went out on Friday. Friday was obviously the busiest night, Wednesday was quite busy and Monday was slightly dead. If you're young like us, the two places I'd recommend the most for a good night are Jokers (not on Monday though!) and Riders. Riders in particular was excellent! Before going to these places I would avail of the cheap drink offers around and about.
The pool in the apartment complex was bigger than we expected- it isn't huge, as is obvious from the pictures, but it isn't abnormally small either. I suppose we were there when the complex wasn't as busy as it could have been, so we basically had the pool to ourselves.
All things considered, we enjoyed our stay at the Monte Verde apartments, and really can't complain about anything. Massively undersold on the website and in brochures, in my opinion!
