“Overall a very pleasant stay!”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

Myself and six of my friends jetted off to Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria for seven days last week. We stayed in the (highly underrated) Monte Verde Apartments, and overall we had a great stay! We had one 1 bedroom apartment and one 2 bedroom apartment. The 2 bedroom apt was the nicer of the two, it has to be said, although the 1 bedroom apt. was still absolutely fine. We had three people staying in the 1 bed, as there was a sofa bed (of sorts) in the living room. If you are staying in these apartments, I would advise you to split everyone up differently so that 5 are in the 2 bed apt. and 2 are in the 1 bed apt., it'd be less cramped.
The cooking facilities in the apartment were better than we expected them to be having read some dodgy reviews. We had two pots and a pan to be precise, and a stove. A toaster and kettle came with the apartment free of charge, but you had to rent other items like a microwave if you wanted them. Same goes for hairdryers. Air conditioning was €20 per apartment per week. If you plan on doing a totally self-catering holiday, you might be underwhelmed by the cooking facilities. Items such as garlic crushers, for instance, weren't available.
The location of the apartment was absolutely excellent- very near main shopping centre and beach. The local supermarket was a two minute walk away, and was very well stocked. Food and drink is extremely cheap over there, including alcohol! The shopping centre is tacky but adequate. We really only ate in two restaurants; Portero Steakhouse (which isn't a steakhouse) and Mau Mau Pizzeria. Mau Mau was perfect for us, and there were always plenty of people there. In terms of nightlife in the shopping centre, it varied greatly from night to night. We went out on Monday and Wednesday, and some of my friends went out on Friday. Friday was obviously the busiest night, Wednesday was quite busy and Monday was slightly dead. If you're young like us, the two places I'd recommend the most for a good night are Jokers (not on Monday though!) and Riders. Riders in particular was excellent! Before going to these places I would avail of the cheap drink offers around and about.
The pool in the apartment complex was bigger than we expected- it isn't huge, as is obvious from the pictures, but it isn't abnormally small either. I suppose we were there when the complex wasn't as busy as it could have been, so we basically had the pool to ourselves.

All things considered, we enjoyed our stay at the Monte Verde apartments, and really can't complain about anything. Massively undersold on the website and in brochures, in my opinion!

Room Tip: We had rooms on the groundfloor and although it stayed sunny all day, if you are a sun worshipper th...

Stayed here the 5th to 12th July 2014. Lovely little spot. Nice n close to the beach and all amenities. No major hill walk home.. Quiet and small.. pool is tiny but you wouldn't be using it with beach so close anyway.
Nothing fancy but fit it's purpose! Very much enjoyed my stay anyway

My partner and I hace stayed in this complex for a week. We had apt 101, which is only a few meters away from the main gate and swimming pool. Many people prefer having an apartment on the upper floors, but since I have a few dificulties with stairs (even though I didn't specifically ask for it while making our reservation) I preferred the ground floor option.

The only difference between gorund and upper levels apartments are these: ground level ones have patio chairs and table in their terrace, and a direct exit to the pool area, while the ones upstairs have private sunbeds and parasol and a private solarium/balcony. Anyweay, for those staying on the ground floor, there are sunbeds available right next to the pool. Every terrace and balcony also have a hanging line, which comes really handy for drying up your swimming wear and beach towels.

The apartaments are about eight minute (walking) from the sandy beach, with less than a minute uphill, or, for better understanding, 650 meters away from the beach, with a 150 meter uphill part (check Google Maps, from Paseo Marítimo 12 to Avenida de Mogán 4). Having some difficulties for moving comfortably myself, I did all the walking to and from the beach non-stop, so I don't think it will be a problem for nobody. Right where the hill starts there is a post office, great for buying credit for your cell, sending postcards to the friends at home, buying phone cards o exchanging money; there is also a bus station and taxi stops nearby. 200 meters from the complex there are several supermarkets, rent-a-car offices, restaurants, several shops, private clinics and some bars. Less than half a km away there are shopping centers, night clubs, karaokes, pubs (british, irish and nordic), pharmacy, The British Medical Center and all kinds of shops. If you're travelling with children, there is also the Angry Brids theme park (less than 250 meters away), which seems to be one of the greatest tourist attractions around (I can't tell, since we didn't travel with kids).

Despite of all the excitement and attractions around, these apartaments are sooooooo quiet. We highly valued this since it was our first week off this year and did not want any night life, but calmly enjoying the beach and resting a lot. We got plenty of that.

The apartments are really basicly equipped but also flawlessly clean and ready for what most traveller may need. They have kitchenware, towels and linen for three people, but they're way more comfortable for just a couple. The bedroom has two individual beds, night table, vanity mirror and a well-sized wardrobe (more than enough for an average trip). The bathroom features a walk-in regular shower, WC and sink, and has been recently renewed. The kitchenette has a small fridge (your average apartment-sized one), electric toaster and kettle. They don't have an electric coffee maker or microwave oven but both can be rented at budget prices (even a Nespresso!) on day or weekly terms. The living area has a sofa for up to three people and a single armchair, coffee table and a TV tuned to British and German satellite channels, and an air conditioner (can also be rented for 20€ a week). You can also rent a laptop or tablet (both rentals include unlimited use of wi-fi) among other things (such as a fan, a blow dryer or a baby carriage).

There is a mini-market at the reception with everything you may need on the first moment, or for daily buying basics such as bread, water and butter or milk. You must keep in mind this is no convenience store, so notice the opening hours (they're at the door). There are also plenty of info signs (for instance, numbers for emergency and the nearest taxi stop). Right by the reception there is also a coin-operated PC with internet and several videogames, avalaible 24/7, as well as a big selection of English and German novels and magazines (these came in pretty handy for taking along to the beach), which can be freely borrowed, at no charge. In the patio where the reception is, there also are several tables and chairs, plants and a pool table (it can only be used from 10 to 22 hours, so everyone can sleep nicely without any noise).

Staff is really friendly and professional, I can only praise them for their job. The cleaning ladies are really nice and meticulous (no corner out of broom reach, and always with a smile on their faces), and the front desk guy is really nice and most obliging. I really thank them for making our little break away so pleasant.

It may sound as a joke, but I can only say one "not-so-good" thing about these apartments: they have a line for hanging your laundry, but they don't have any pegs at all... and that would be just for telling something bad about the place. My actual advice is book a stay at Monte Verde if you can, because it is a great value for your money. You won't get any luxuries but also won't be paying for things your don't really need, and what they have to offer is absolutely great.

I hope this was useful for you, have a happy holiday in Gran Canaria!

Room Tip: Sun lovers, rent upstairs. Pool lovers (or difficul with stairs), rent downtairs.

Very basic apartments, not to far into the centre and the beach. The climb up the hill is ok if you are healthy but I have a heart condition and I found it hard at times. There are no lifts so keep that in mind. We were given a apt downstairs and only got 1 hour sun around 9am. Pool never used as the sun never shines on it. I agree with other people the owner was very good and if asked for anything obliged immediately

basic, clean and as expected good value. first time on this type of break and approaching the town and seeing the development it was my vision of the holiday from hell, buildings stacked on top of one another but we had a low level accommodation and we would return. so very happy with location slight uphill easily walkable . be warned some places you would need climbing gear. owner generous with extra paid for air=con got internet and lockbox free. we would normally use where we stay just as a base so we dont look for perks, sun was available on our terrace till 3 in the afternoon( december) off to beach 5 min away or stroll on the walway to Amadores beach 25 min away . this place is also 5 min from the shopping centre with great selection of good quality good value food, half the price of home as its a duty free island

My husband and I stayed here in September, like some of the people who have reviewed this apartment block I was a little anxious. I need not have worried the apartment was spotless, the balcony huge and most important for us quiet at night time. It was very hot while we were there and we paid just twenty euro extra at reception for air conditioning for the week which was excellent value. The pool area was small but we had it to ourselves most of the time. I did take the advice given by other reviewers and opted for the apartment on the top floor, but as September is a quite time I regretted just a little not having the poolside apartment. But at a busy time certainly top floor would be best. Pool was very clean and staff very pleasant.

We booked these apartments as a "Late Deal " offer - Based on this we were a little apprehensive, but i have to say we got great value for our money.
The apartments are sufficient for 2 people only. They are small but have everything you need for a self catering break. They are spotless clean, very quiet with huge balcony's on 2nd and 3rd floors .Ground floor apartments balcony's probably not as big but open onto the pool area .
We were on the 3rd floor - our balcony had the sun all day long,
The apartments are roughtly 5 minutes walk to the centre, 10 minutes to the local beach or 20 minutes walk to amadores beach.
Staff are very helpful and have everything you might need available on a rental basis. e.g: iron/ hairdryer/ fan etc. They also have a small shop, with basic items to get you started.
There are plenty of Spar or Hippo Dino shops close by.
On the downside the pool area is so small there isnt enough room for everyone to lounge around it, based on this we choose to stay on our balcony( which has 2 sunbeds ) or go to the beach.
The apartments dont have a lift so request a ground floor apartment if this is an issue.
We enjoyed our week at these apartments - personally we prefer a bigger pool area but would have no hesitation recommending the Monte Verde for 2 people only per apartment.
Should a special offer come your way for them - Grab it ! You wont be disappointed.

Room Tip: If you are a sun worshipper request a 2nd or 3rd floor room ! The ferry to Mogan for the Friday M...
